Vlogmas Day 6 Upgrading My EEW Nano 1 with the Nano 2 Kit!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Mark is here to help update my EEW Nano 1 with the Nano 2 Upgrade kit. Let's see how it spins and look at some of the differences between the Nano 1 and 2. While I spin a 3 ply yarn with today's fiber, I will also share a story about the toy my mom wouldn't allow me to have as a kid.
Welcome to Vlogmas 2022! For 12 days in December I will open a box of fiber, read a blessing, and share some spinning tips as well as a story while we sit by the fire and spin some yarn. Grab a warm drink, some fiber, and let's get spinning!

Barbie was one reason I learned to crochet. My grandmother had binders (huge 3 inch full size) jam packed with fancy crochet laced wedding and ball gowns for barbie size dolls. We couldn't afford to buy the collector's versions with the huge fancy dresses, so I learned to read the patterns to make my own. I love when Mark joins you! He's so much fun, and it's obvious the pair of you are perfect for each other!
I love watching non-craft husbands be both supportive and sarcastic at the same time
I love watching how Mark makes you laugh when he "guest stars"! And please, ALWAYS include the bloopers, they are gold and bring us joy to see you two goofing together!❤❤
I had no idea there were affordable super portable spinning wheels like the nano!!!! This is incredible. Loved the wheel daddy guest appearance and I love that your mom empowered you through toys. The bloopers might be my fav part of this video lol- too cute.

I don’t need another hobby. I don’t need another hobby. I don’t need another hobby.
"I would waste it on you" is the ultimate proof of love 🥰 it is a real joy watching you two together. You always make me laugh. I wish you many more moments together filled with love, laugh and joy!
The idea of making barbie clothes from scratch is so sweet ^-^ my mom's sewing machine was always broken and we could rarely afford to buy fabrics and most clothes we outgrew were donated to cousins or thrift shops for vouchers. I made barbie clothes out of rags and socks that lost their matches. I think i had a skipper and i made her a nightgown out of a blue bobby sock with lace, and there was another doll i made a hoopskirt for out of a t-shirt sleeve and pipe cleaners. I also remember i made barbie shoes out of notebook paper and glue but i can't remember how
My grandma bought a Singer treadle sewing machine for my 9th birthday. My mom taught me how to sew Barbie doll clothes on it. I went crazy making so many outfits for my huge Barbie collection. I even sewed little bikinis, panties, and bras. My Aunt and I played with our Barbie dolls from sunup to sundown all summer long!
I hope whoever gets the nano finds as much joy in it as I find in watching the bloopers
I didn't have the true "Christmas story" moment where I wanted something so badly... I remember instead of the Christmas eve gift I could get up early and have any present that was unwrapped (normally a doll or some PJ's) I will always cherish those memories with family. Thank you for providing such a wonderful forum where we can share our stories and be inspired
You and mark work so well together love when husbands support their wife’s endeavors.
It's always nice when our husbands are so helpful with our crafts. Good job Mark.
I am very grateful to have grown up at a time and with parents who raised me to be interested in whatever I'd like- I love science, and 'stereotypically feminine' things- it is so important that people share how they can coexist and deeply intertwine within an individual!
I have a Story about my childhood! So.....My dad was an Engineer. My Mother had Madame Alexander Dolls, and they stayed in the BOX! I was not allowed to have Barbies either. All my friends had them. I had Nuts and Bolts and built my first bookshelf at 7 yrs old in the Garage. Fortunately my Mother Counteracted all the Engineering and Science with Ballet, Gymnastics, Violin, and Sewing, Knitting, and Crocheting! I had a Very Active Mind, that they needed to keep busy! I never had a Free Moment! haha I am happy now that I didnt have Barbies, my favorite toy growing up ended up to be the Simon, and the Rubik's cube. Good thing I had the Balance of using my hands for Creative Projects! I now own a Yarn Shop!!! Whoooo Hooooooooo!!!!!! hehe
What fun to watch you and Mark together! Your story of growing up sparked memories for me; I was born in 1950, so remember Barbie's "entrance". I had 2 younger brothers, and loved their sets of blocks, mechano sets, etc. When I was 9, my Xmas wish was a chemistry set; I had visions of myself becoming a mad (female!) scientist. Santa did bring me one, but it also came with a manual, and rules. My Dad loved this chemistry set, and I loved the time I spent with him following those rules. I didn't become a mad scientist, but an elementary teacher, and spent most of my teaching career exploring more effective ways to help my students (and colleagues) understand math, as well as the history of counting systems in other cultures. Yup - a weird adult and teacher!
Y'all are so good together. It is apparent you enjoy each other's company. It's downright wholesome
Welcome to the “wheel guy“! So fun when you are both on together. I would love to try that little wheel for the portability, especially. I am a grandmother of five and I am always sitting waiting somewhere for someone doing something. Thank you for the opportunity! I never miss a video because I learned so very much.
Yay a vlogmas episode with Mark again. His catmas sweater is so cool! I enjoyed your Barbie story and how your mother made sure that first you learn that a girl can do anything in life. So wonderful! I remember when I got my first Barbie as a kid. I grew up in the very eastern part of Germany behind the wall and there was not much luxury. So having a Barbie was way out of my reach. My grandma had relatives in Austria and was permitted to travel outside the country to visit her family. When she came back my sister and I knew there would be fancy chocolates and all the sweets we normally would not be able to get our hands on. But not only brought she candy back home she gifted each of us our very first Barbie doll. It was a Tennis Barbie. I can still recall the feeling that I had when I saw the signature pink box… oh my. After that she knit us Barbie clothes of course. 😅
I loved hearing how you and your mom both designed outfits for your Barbies! The majority of mine were hand-me-downs from the 70s and 80s (my new ones were 90s) and on a couple of them, my grandma had crocheted outfits in lace style crochet thread. That was all well and good except she crocheted them ON the Barbies around their tight waists, so it was impossible to change their outfits and it drove me nuts because I didn't want wedding dress Barbie every single time I played. Bratz came soon after, and I remember recycling materials to make outfits on them, like one was a white plastic bag that I made into a layered form-fitting asymmetric tube dress that looked so cool. I would also change their makeup and eye colour with Crayola markers because it was washable. I wish I'd taken the time to learn more about sewing and crochet/knit tho because I really liked fashion during peak 00s style.
I was the same as you, I had some trains and trucks, blocks, Mechano and tools and also ran and built scenery for my Dad's model railway. One toy that was frowned upon that my friends had was Girl's World which was a doll head that you could style and put make up onto, now I can really appreciate why I didn't have those. I did have a couple of Sindy dolls, but many of the clothes were made by either Mum, or a friend of my Mum's, there were even knitting patterns available in the UK. I still have my toy Panda, Patsy that I have had since I was two, but many of my other toys were given to a neighbour's kids after I left home.
I feel like you STARTED to say "keep it secret, keep it safe" and then got distracted by the desert drought dryness of Mark's humor.

Yep, this is accurate. 😂
I was a tomboy growing up, and so I got more boy oriented toys. One year I got a microscope for Christmas and I was jumping for joy.
Oh my gosh! I'm still laughing at Mark with the fiber reveal & in the blooper reel. He is a fantastic "fiber wing man"/wheel Daddy. I DID have Barbies..lots of them and many accessories. I learned to crochet at 7, so I could make clothes for my dolls. Except for the spirograph, I can't recall many, if any STEM toys growing up...and yet, here I am today, a state Public Health Virologist supervising the clinical Serology/Virology testing through a global pandemic. I was not encouraged to pursue the hard sciences, I was encouraged to develop my talents, wherever they presented themselves and my passion was found in the laboratory. Nowadays, I am finding enjoyment and passion in exploring the OTHER side of my brain, through expanding fiber arts. I think it's a wonderful thing that we can exist in BOTH worlds and find ourselves extremely happy in either.
When I took my "learn to spin" course at the local craft college my instructor had a nano wheel and demonstrated it for us. It was great to see.
The nano is such a perfect travel size!! I love this company for making spinning more affordable to those who can't afford many other wheels on the market.
I will say this about my folks, nothing we had was specific to boy or girls. We girls grew up playing with Barbies, babies, and Tonkas…… and so did the boys. The girls turned into independent, confident women, that have no fears about doing things that are designated as “masculine” activities, and the boys are wonderful fathers.
Mark pretending to be you at the beginning made me laugh out load. And the bloopers too - priceless 🙂
I love how you and Mark giggle and flirt the entire time 💕💕 Literal relationship goals!
I enjoyed hearing your Barbie story. I used to play Barbies with my cousins, but my daughter was never interested in them. She preferred to play outside with her friends.
That episode brought back so many memories! My older sister had Barbie and I had Skipper in the 60s - all I really wanted were cars, science kits and Meccano! I remember a big argument when my sister cut off all Skipper's hair though!🤣
I had a Christmas present that I really wanted. It was an easy bake oven. I got up Christmas morning and there was an easy bake kitchen that had a little blender on it. I was happy to have it, but also disappointed that I didn't get the oven. Talk about ingratitude 🤪 Well, as I unwrapped the rest of my Christmas presents, there was an easy bake oven from my mom and dad! Years later I found out that one of my brothers had been snooping and saw the oven, so my parents had to make a present swap for what Santa was going to bring! Anyhow, I did love my easy bake oven, but it was one of those presents that quickly went unused. I do love to bake though! And I do bake frequently!
Yay, it's a Mark episode! I love all of the episodes, but the ones with Mark in make me laugh. :) I loved Rainbow Brite. And My Little Pony. I also had a significant unicorn collection! I had many, many Barbies, but I remember when I was in fourth grade deciding that I wanted to have something that was marketed to boys, so I told everyone to buy me GI Joe stuff for Christmas. And I got all GI Joe stuff, and only GI Joe. It was of limited enjoyment for me--I really did like the clothing I could make and world-building that I could do with Barbie--but I really remember the gendered consternation of my family that year... "but that's for boys!"
Oh dear, it's anxiety inducing watching Mark take that little wheel apart. I just know there would be "extra" pieces when I got it all put back together 🤣

I love Wheel Daddy guest appearances and I especially love the blessings he comes up with. He gets us fibre peeps.
It was so fun watching you and Mark together! I may have been the opposite of you as a kid. I was given dolls and Barbies, but I wasn’t interested in any of them. I genuinely tried to be, but like most autistics, I preferred animals to dolls. My twin sister LOVED her dolls, and I felt so out of place not sharing the feeling. Now, as a mom, I try to follow my kid’s lead on what toys they gravitate to.
I'm a Huge fan of @Dreaming Robots‼️ I have the Nano 1.0 and an Electric Eel Wheel 6. I'll be getting an upgrade kit and the new Nano 2.0 also. I love how portable they both are and if you use the suction cups or the recommended battery with the aftermarket case it's very stable. Thank you So much for highlighting this wonderful little machine. We travel a lot, and my little Nano with everything I need to spin fits in a soft makeup case that fits in a back pack...The Eel wheel six is also so portable and perfect for our Camper. I have an Ashford traditional also. Thanks again for sharing all the wonderful tools and techniques for spinning Miss Evie 🥰‼️
When Mark becomes you…..I just about fell off my chair laughing so hard!!!
I love seeing Mark on the show! His sense of humor is the same as my sons, who just happened to be walking through as I was watching and stopped and watched this episode with me.
I love your and Mark's relationship so much

Thank you Alexandra for the kind comment!
We need more guest appearances with Mark!! Also, I loved your story today - I grew up with both Barbies, Bionicles, and GI Joes so had a wide range of creative toys to play with. While the whole body image issue with Barbie makes sense in theory, I never once thought about it while playing with them. All of my toys had such a wide range of body shapes (like stuffed toys) and all that mattered was the story my siblings and I created with them! As for the fiber, short staple bouncy fibers are my FAVORITE!! Give me all the Down breeds! Thank you for including them in your videos and introducing people to these breeds to try!
It's so cool to see this teeny tiny spinning wheel at work. It is a joy to watch your and Mark's interactions.
"Welcome to Wheel Daddy Show" 🤣🤣🤣 I love you guys!
Your husband is so cute.... I never had a Barbi when I was little. I was pretty much a Tom boy and liked horses and cowgirl stuff. Annie Oakley was my hero. When I was in my 40's a friend bought me a Barbi because she thought it was terrible I never had one.
OMG! Your mom is me! I wanted my brother’s gifts - models, tools, etc. I got a ‘girl’s’ model one year. It was 3 plastic pieces that snapped together. Took me 5 seconds. No glue, no painting. I’m a mechanical engineer by training. At least I missed the teacher/nurse bullet.
Having a partner that makes you laugh is wonderful! Love your laugh Evie, your eye always sparkle
I got my Nano 2 in the mail yesterday and am spinning on it as I watch. It is very different from the EEW 6, but I love it. I remember having Barbies that my mom found at garage sales. I made elaborate houses for them and used my mom's heels as sport cars. I do not remember actually playing with them, just made houses for them. Lol.
Hello Mark, nice seeing you again. My husband could definitely join the wheel Daddy club! He is amazing and so supportive of my craft. Another wonderful video Evie, thank you so very much!
My husband and I almost busted a rib laughing! I love when the Wheel Daddy comes on the show!
You and Mark are so cute together!!!!!! He has the best sense of humor!!! Ok...I had to edit to add some things..lol...even from a really young age as I was looking through the Sears Christmas Catalog....( how darn old am I?????)....I would always circle anything that looked craft related...of course I had to have the potholder weaving thing.....makes me laugh at how I had no idea I had a fiber related obsession that I would never outgrow! That was such a great story! The bloopers were priceless!!! You should include them more often!! They were a great addition to an already great Vlogmas!
What a perfect couple! It so nice to see a couple who have fun together. My favorite Christmas gift was a fully jointed doll (ankles, knees, wrists and waist) who looked similar to a Barbie but was a bit bigger. I loved her, I sure my mom searched forever to find her 😂.
The nano spinner really is nano! I wasnt expecting it to be so tiny and adorable 😍
You two are so amazing love when Mark joins you in the videos. Was great to see how the machine goes together I think I need to get one now
Real daddy made it seem so simple I have a feeling the rest of us would still be struggling great to watch your show blessings
You and Mark were a delight to see together!! The bloopers at the end were HILARIOUS!! Your story reminded me of my memories with my grandmother who made sooooo many clothes for my American Girl doll, including matching outfits for me! My grandmother was the one who got me into fiber arts, sewing, and cross-stitch years ago
You and Mark are so well suited and I love your sense of humour! As a child I never wanted dolls and soft toys, and my favourite toys were Meccano and an electric train set. I never had any brothers, but luckily my dad loved these and bought them for me.
This year, your vlogmas is my favorite! Sitting down to knit and watch/listen reminds me of being little and snuggling up with my mom while she read stories to me. Thank you Evie!
The wheel daddy show! A Christmas miracle 😆
Cat fiber, ha ha love it! That’s what mine turns into when the kitties crawl into a bag of fiber and sleep there all day!

I always asked for a doll house when I was little. Didn't get one until I was in 6th grade and didn't really want one anymore. I try to get my kids the toys they ask for so I can see them enjoy them!
Thanks, Mark for being a part of today's vlogmas. You are a good husband.

I see why everyone enjoys Mark when he guest stars. Love your guys dynamic. Also yay nano 2! I've been wanting to get my hands on a nano.
You guys are so cute together! I still have issues with short fibers though I do keep practicing. Someday I'll get it. I just got my Nano 2 in the mail yesterday. Have already spun up a braid of hand-dyed fiber from my stash. I love the changes Maurice made to the earlier Nano. I also got the kit to upgrade my first Nano. I appreciate seeing how easy it was to swap out the parts. It looks like something even I can manage on my own. If I do get into trouble, I've got three helpers I can wrangle into being "Wheel Daddies" for a few minutes.
Ok. Love Mark the “Wheel Daddy.” I also love how he makes you laugh!
I still have many of the Barbies I had as a girl. I sewed clothes for them, out of scraps, on my mothers Singer treadle sewing machine. Incidentally, I also sewed my finger!

Ouch!
We had barbies growing up. My Baba taught me to sew clothes for her which really influenced me to do hand stitching, embroidery, knitting and crochet 😊
Haha, loved Mark 's cameo on your show and him impersonating you! Ah an e spinner! I started learning my first spinning on an Ashford e-spinner, but I enjoyed the spinning on an actual wheel (kiwi, double threadle) so much more, is almost hypnotic and meditative. I was gifted my wheel by a friend of my mother, so now I own an actual working spinning wheel! Oh the possibilities 😁, just picked it up last weekend! But I wouldn't mind having an e spinner with my collection of spinning tools, I have a rather old one I need to figure out and have fixed and now single threadle wheel that looks like a Louet but seems to be hand made by an enthusiastic carpenter (it says 'edammerie' on it but that does not give me an results when googling it) it seems special... Oh, I had Lego technic as a girl, loved that!!
A rocking horse and story records are the only toys I remember. My plan was to be a cowboy until I turned 17 and fell in love:-)
Oh my god! My mom made clothes for my barbies too! She even knitted a bath robe or house coat. I found that one not so long ago! Oh listening to your story brings back so many childhood memories ♥
Mark cracks me up! Hi fiber friends! Welcome to the wheel daddy show!😂
My Little Pony! I grew up on the original toys. I had two Barbies..... neither survived for one reason or other - the dog ate one.
I too have a non-spinning yet supportive husband. It's wonderful how we can appreciate our spouse's differences. I have an EEW 6. If I had a Nano, then my girls could spin with me. That would be so much fun.
Loved The Wheel Daddy Podcast. He is such good value and it’s so lovely to watch you two together. I would sign up my husband for a Wheel Daddy Training Programme.
Ha! My mother disliked Barbie, also! I finally got one for my 10th birthday from a friend and she did let me keep it. In fact, her mother sewed us Barbie clothes and those fabrics showed up in our marriage quilts, which was cool. There were four daughters in my family, so we also had a rather balanced life - receiving toolboxes and erector sets for gifts, as well. Thank you for sharing your personal story!
I'm in love with the new wheel daddy show. Haha. That's a neat little machine.
Never had Barbie but I LOVED My Little Pony, and I would stay home from school just so I could watch it, lol
The partnership you guys have is so nice to see 😊 I also enjoyed a lot hearing this story while this beautiful yarn got spun. Thanks for this amazing content!
The way Mark makes you laugh is so sweet to see!
Your childhood sounds very like mine ,I even had a train set .I was already in my teens before I started crafting.
I thought I was the only one having difficulty spinning the black fiber. I was going to give up on it until I heard there were others having a bit of trouble with it too. I will try again seeing that there is more of it in my Vlogmas box. I did get a Barbie, for my 9th birthday. Then I got a Midge for Christmas when I was 11. My mom was a seamstress and she taught me to sew so I could make my dolls clothes. By the time I was 16 I was making my sister's Barbie doll clothes and as birthday gifts for her friends.
You and Mark are a perfect match! That little Nano is a workhorse!
Nice video. That skipper was nothing like the one I had. Of course I’m probably around your mom’s age. Thanks to Mark for doing the upgrade on air. I might get the upgrade now.

Happy to help
Aww, I love your story about how you got Skipper! I distinctly remember asking for two specific things for Christmas and it was several years of asking before I got either. One was the Barbie game for the original Nintendo (which I still have and it works) and the other was Kirsten who was my favorite from the American Girl dolls. I loved her for many years and get to experience the joy again watching my daughter enjoy playing with her too 💕
🤣🤣 I so enjoy when Mark joins us 👍 I too experienced the same weirdness in my childhood and so glad I did! My techy toys helped me get where I am today; like fixing my wheel myself, maintenance on our home & vehicles, and sewing machines 🤪😵💫😁 I still struggle with the whole Suzy homemaker bits, but my crew of Boyz don't complain too much.
Thanks for showing the upgrade on the Nano It is nice to see another man involved in wheel repair and mainenance . Hi Mark

I absolutely love when mark comes on with you. Watching you two have a great time together has me laughing along with you!!! What a wonderful giveaway!! And thank you for the extra tips.
Thank you for making me laugh again.😂 no playing games here, just hand crafting 😊
Loved this video. Before an upgrade kit was available.. I purchased the larger motor from Dreaming Robots, had a friend 3d print my fibre hooks from thingiverse free files, I added a foot on and off switch I found at the dollar store at Xmas time designed to work on Xmas trees. Worked great. I am so glad there is an upgrade kit available. Thanks for showing the available changes.
How sweet that Mark the Wheel Daddy joined the show today!!
That is so cool that you still have your old dolls! I loved my barbies! I wanted a Chatty Cathy doll so bad and never did get one. But I had lots of troll dolls! My favorite!
Hi Jillian, this was another enjoyable episode. It was hilarious seeing the two of you interacting! When I was younger I would put an equal amount of “boys toys” and “girls toys” on my wish list, but would inevitably only get girl things. I was close to a boy cousin that had awesome toys that I liked playing with (when he would let me) and I’d imagine what it might be like to have a remote controled anything or race track of my own. When I was a bit older I decided to only put boy things on my list, and I finally got a k’nex set. It was one of my most favorite gifts and I made everything in the booklet. Then, I got creative and started making things for my Barbie dolls (which I also really enjoyed) 😄
I loved today's story, and to see that you still have the barbies with handmade clothes💜
Mark was a delight, and so was his sweater! The falsetto, omg, love it! I had the same Christmas Eve tradition. One year I opened a gift from my favorite grandmother, only to be sadly disappointed that she had wrapped up a pack a brand new, very heavy batteries. So, like your Skipper clothes, completely useless at that moment, and very disappointing. I begged to be allowed to open another, but no, rules were rules. The next day I opened a miniature electronic pinball machine, which was great fun until I ran out of batteries. I think mom was a little annoyed at the noisy gift, and it took a long time to get replacement batteries again. Hugs!
I grew up in the 50s and 60s so was given a Barbie when they came out, but never played with her because I was a tomboy 😆. I finally started playing with her when I learned to knit I started making her clothes! Mark is soooooo funny. Ya'll are cute!
So nice to meet Mark! The wheel Daddy was a very good sport!
I love the goofiness when Mark guest stars 😂😂
Haven't seen Mark in a while. Good to see him. You both had me laughing. What a wonderful gift to give. Always love watching you Evie 💞

That nano looks awesome. I could get my husband to join the wheel daddy club if they sold it in a kit he could 3d print himself! I remember having Barbie and the Rockers when I was little. There was a red head with an afro/big 80s hair and an Asian girl in the Rockers. They had a cool car you pulled back and let rocket off into the walls. The Barbie I really wanted and still have in box is the Audrey Hepburn in her white ball gown from My Fair Lady. It's sat on a shelf but outlasted my music set up that I also got that year. My mom was disappointed because I wasn't excited for that as I was Audrey but I had asked for that! A few days later when I had played around with my music more I really liked it and thanked her for knowing what I needed. My Christmas Eve present is always Christmas PJ's. Mom and I usually get matching ones so the pictures look good on Christmas Day. We still do this even though I'm 40 and I'm sure she and I will have matching jammies. Last year she got Nightmare Before Christmas ones.
