We all have so many household jobs to do this time of year. So busy and your under the weather it is not helping. I went deaf on my left side last weekend driving along our rubbish roads on Monday something moved and suddenly my full hearing came back. My sinus's are my main problem this time of year. Love your Christmas cake, I didn't make one this year as I put half a cake out for the birds last year. Sniffing wasn't a problem tome, feel better soon.

I can sympathise over the horrendous painful ears when flying ... I stopped flying over 30 years ago because of it. I am getting anxious over getting last minute outside chores done, the weather hasn't helped. Apparently here in Surrey earlier today we had a mini tornado blow through. 💨💦❤🎂

Hi Gayna, what I do when I make my butter easter lambs is put clingfilm over the moulds and then press the butter in. You can lift the butter easily from the moulds after chilling. And I didn't mind the sniffing as I am sniffing here as well 🙃

So sorry you have such a stinker of a cold but didn’t worry about the sniffing at all! Your cake looks lovely and those sprouts will be delicious from your garden! I would give the sprout tops with the caterpillars to the chickens who will love them! Call it a Christmas dinner for them! Love WW xx

I’m so sorry you’re sick. So frustrating, especially this time of year and with traveling ahead of you. Don’t know how the butter turned out for you but I soak my wooden butter molds in water, then put in the butter and put it in the fridge. The water makes the wood swell a bit so when the water evaporates in the fridge the wood shrinks and the cold butter pops out more easily. I think that’s how it works. Hope you feel better soon. ❤❤❤

I really recommend the “ear planes” for flying with a head cold or blocked nose, or if you have trouble equalising ear pressure. They are a silicone ear plug with a little bit of ceramic in the centre, and they to the equalising of pressure for you. Also, I have wooden moulds for making Scottish shortbread, I use rice flour to dust them, then just press in the shortbread mixture. To get it out of the mould you turn upside down and make a firm tap on the side of the mould away from you against the bench/ worktop. It should just pop right out

Agree re caster sugar in the marzipan. How about the Dan Lepard orange and pistachio stollen bars for what's left? Just don't assume leftovers will still be there in the morning, in this house there is a giant 'mouse' that manages to get into the fridge and eat it all.

I am sure you have heard or done this when being cabin crew - we used to live on an island for many many years - one cabin crew member gave a passenger plastic cups to cover her ears when the plane started to descend. She said it worked and was thrilled. 🎄🎄

What a lovely looking cake. And I love the peg people on top. What a bummer with having a cold. Someone already suggested a decongestant regime and I agree with that. About 18 years ago I was on the down side of a cold but still congested when I flew home to Scotland (from San Francisco). Ear pain was bearable but hearing was muffled all the time I was on holiday and when I did the return flight ear pain was again sore but bearable. Went to the doctor who informed me that at some point I had an infection and my eardrum burst. I then became aware that sometimes I would feel off balance. Long story short I developed BPPV - a form of vertigo. Lots on internet about the condition. Fingers crossed for you.

Gayna, your sniffling wasn’t bad at all. When my husband sniffles it drives me crazy…..you are a very dainty sniffler! Your Christmas cake looks great. I always enjoy watching you do the marzipan. I’ve never seen or tasted a cake like that. I don’t think it’s popular over here in the states. I don’t think anything knocks you off your feet. I can’t imagine doing as much as you do if I wasn’t feeling good. Can’t wait to see if the butter comes out of the molds. ❤🎄

At least cold coming well and truly out. Loved the marzipan interesting way of doing it always followed the Delia way and it’s a right faff mixing it over a pan of simmering water I guess to cook the eggs. Well blow that I’ll try was it BbC food way I think you said. Reminded me I needed to get it done rather than leaving it to couple of days before Christmas then do a snow storm for m6 icing Christmas Eve! Loved the idea of using it up in Coissant dough yum.😊

My coffee pot died too, It would start like it was going to make a cup then just shut off nothing. I too thought about descaling but if it won’t run no use! Luckily I had a smaller spare. Using that for the time being. I might go back to the tried and model, a glass pot called a Bunn!

Hope you are feeling better Gayna! Re: Coffee Machine. Take it in for professional service! I'm sure there are a few places around you. I've had my Jura machine serviced several times (it's about 18 years old now) and it works perfectly. I'm sure a good repair shop can fix yours right up (find a shop that works on all brands. The older machines are far superior to the newer ones -- says the guy who services mine :-). So don't get a new one just yet.

I shape my butter into little balls using a melon baller - silicone molds are great since they pull away from the butter. I do freeze my butter and take the shapes out right before serving.

I really suffer with ear pain, Gayna, and I now take a decongestant pill the night before, first thing in the morning, and then on the flight, about an hour before descent starts, I take another! It works! Hope you’re feeling better soon xx

Take some nasal spray with you for the plane. Was advised by a doctor when I had to fly with a cold.

Your sniffles don't bother me at all. I'm baking 6 German Stollen today and I hide some Frangipane in them. It's quite similar to marzipan but more delicate and yummy. BTW, you have the best eyelashes. What brand of mascara do you use? I hope you are well for your trip. You are brave to travel the week before Christmas. I don't think I could do it.

Hi, I’m playing catch up so you may have fixed it but if your replace the fuse in the plug of your coffee maker, that most likely will sort it. Edit….okay now I’m laughing because I’m watching the next one and you’ve changed the fuse. 😂

Even though its stressy now, hopefully you’ll be mostly past it by vacay time!

Prior to flying, I would purchase some Otrivin nasal spray and some Mucinex decongestant. Mucinex might go by another name in the UK. The generic name is Guaifenesin. My doctor recommends using Otrivin spray 30 minutes prior to takeoff and 30 minutes prior to landing. Ear pain is not fun.❤❤❤

Where does one find a Christmas cake recipe like the one you made? I would love to make one but I'm not sure about the whole process of leaving it for 2 months with marzipan, or even two weeks .... I didn't mind the sniffing a bit as I'm a sniffer, too!

You don’t have to marzipan it and leave it for months. It’s just that you can if you want. Look up Delia Smith or Nigella Christmas cakes recipes and you’ll find all you need. I’d give you a link but YT is playing up and it doesn’t let me.

@@talesfromcuckooland he has been diagnosed with major arterial disease thru wghoke body blockages in two legs only55 am the oldie nearly 70 but he’s been falling since last year had broken ribs and off work since feb had scan eventually three weeks ago told blockage in left leg then thru last week got pain in good leg foot and within a day black toes so admitted on Saturday put on antibiotics and now told this but toes improving with antibiotics and on blood thinners gets home Tom but goin back jan for probably major surgery I ve been a wreck you can imagine sorry to burden you x
