Tales from Cuckoo Land

Tales from Cuckoo Land

Welcome to my small corner of the internet where I share elements of my life here in the beautiful countryside of South West England. My days revolve around my family of three boys, husband, two rescue dogs and two hamsters. You’ll find me knitting, cooking, cleaning, gardening, decorating, sewing clothes and quilts amongst other things. I live a small, quiet life with a nod to the old world and an eco vibe. I mostly share the good bits and labour through the bad privately. I hope you enjoy your time spent here.

Hi Gayna, I am a long-time viewer. I am 61 and live outside of Philadelphia in the States. I've always been single and currently live with 2 cats. My friend Carla and I talk about how much we wished you were our neighbor, since you seem like such a lovely, kind person. Saucers of beer will help to eradicate slugs. They are attracted to the beer, crawl in and drown. A sad death, but not painful for them. I do love chickens as well. They have such funny personalities and make the best sounds. You could tie a different color of string or yarn around one of their ankles to help identify them, or even paint a toenail or two. We had good luck with either in helping to keep who was who.

Hi Gayna-I’m just a few days shy of my 60th birthday (😮how did THAT happen?!?) Your garden looks great and it’s further along than mine (I’m in Vermont, US-we have a short growing season!) We’ve had chickens for years now, but not rescued ones, bless you for adopting those girls! We have four sheep too-a spinner’s flock you might say. Love your videos!

Hi Gayna. For someone who doesn't like gardening you're doing pretty well with those vegetables. So glad the chickens are settling in well, even Toby enjoys them. I'm 65 with 3 grown up children, and have 2 grandchildren. We're waiting for gcse results for one of them so everything crossed at the moment 😂. Love your blogs and seeing what you'll get up to next. Thank you for sharing your exploits with us.

Hi Gayna, that was a super podcast, thank you. Lovely to see you and hear all the news. I loved that skirt, it's fabulous and looked superbly made. Well you asked how old we are, here goes, I celebrated my 80th birthday 5 days ago. I was most unhappy to be THAT age . Don't feel it, don't act like it and have been told don't look it(which I will take greedily). First birthday without John my husband. I didn't want the day to come but it did, I was hugely spoilt with cards, gifts and outings. It went on for a few days and today is first day relaxing at home on my own and literally blobbing. But, as from now I am counting backwards. My son said, ' OH Mum, it's only a number". Well Stephen, you wait to 'til you get there and see how you feel.I must admit where has all the time gone, my life has definitely been in segments and eras, good memories. How brilliant to get those eggs so early in the piece.Oh I forgot(see that's already happening, oh golly) I live in the middle of the North Island New Zealand. In an agricultural area, big farms, country towns, a city 30 minutes away on the mighty big Waikato River.Look forward to seeing you next time. Hugs

Hi Gayna! I’m watching from rainy and dreary southern Australia and loved seeing your garden while mine is all dormant! Your new chickens are so precious! We’re pretty new to chicken keeping and love our six chickens that are now about 8 months old. We had a couple trying to sleep in the nesting boxes as well and blocked them off for a few weeks so they would go on the perch. They all seem to get it again and no one is sleeping in there! Oh, and I’m 44, married to my husband for 24 years and we have two sons, almost 20 and 16 years so I feel like i can relate to your family dynamic and love watching your vlogs. Enjoy your new stick vacuum, they’re so handy! I shared about my robot vac and its issues during vlogmas and after giving it a big reset its been working wonderfully, despite the dog hair that clogs it up 😂

Hi Gayna, I have been watching you for about a year or more now, I found you from Ali at Little Drops of Wonderful. I live in South East Queensland, Australia ( so in winter now) and I am married 26 years, with twin men (22yrs) one at home at Uni and one living and work/studying in Victoria :( I am a total homebody and love to craft (crochet mainly) and do all the homemaking things. We had chickens and dogs but a the moment we want to travel more and be able to go at the drop of a hat so no animals just now. One of my boys/men also has special needs (cerebral palsy) is the one studying at Uni, so I love seeing Bills adventures and progress. They teach us alot about life don't you think? See you soon all the best with the garden. 🙂💕🌻🦘

I'm still young at heart and a bit of a stirrer and always up for a laugh 😊 I adore knitting socks, haven't been game to try my hand at clothing yet but really want to knit an easy cardi soon. I have loads of wips on the go, socks strip blankets like Kays Jellyroll, dishcloths and scrubbies, fingerless mittens etc. Love a bit of crochet too and make lots of project bags thanks to Ali (Little Drops of Wonderful) teaching me how!! Your chickens are just adorable, my nickname of Chickie was given to me over 25 years ago because I used to have a lot of chickens! That "Stick" looks fantastic too.
