I really wanna study abroad but scared to go alone lol. It’s nice that your friend is there with you, it makes it easier to start anew. But how do you overcome the language barrier? 😭

i came with no prior knowledge of korean. the language barrier isn’t as difficult as it seems. navigation apps like kakao and naver maps are user friendly and have an english option for getting around. at restaurants, many have english menus. if not, you can always use the translation app papago or honestly, just point to pictures. at stores and everywhere else, everyone is typically nice to foreigners and will help through the language barrier. solo traveling is super scary at first, but it’s also super exciting. i have no doubt you’ll make friends in seoul, but it’s equally as easy to have fun on your own here :)

Randomly came across this but I also just moved into SK Global 2 week ago too
Hi Annika I love your vlog! I’m doing the Yonsei summer program in a couple months. Do you recommend SK global or woonjungwon for location closest to classes without a lot of walking?Thanks!
@annikagail
Ай бұрын
i only had i-house and sk as options so i don’t know much about woojungwon. however, i believe woojungwon is located on a hill, so it may be a bit of a tiring walk. sk walk is about 15 mins, depending on which path you take. i also think woojungwon only has doubles and triples, whereas sk has singles and doubles. but i believe woojungwon is newer (opened in 2014 vs 2010). the biggest difference to me would be that woojungwon has a curfew and sk does not :)
I wanted to ask which camera you use Ps: Love your video💓

Thank you so much for the video! It is very interesting for me to look at such a life, although I will never be able to go myself haha Tell me, did you arrive in March? And when does the school year in Korea start? In my country, it starts on September 1, so check-ins in dormitories take place in the summer (You may have talked about this, but it's a little difficult for me to translate)

I have a question that if i study at Yongsei with International programme, do i have to learn Korean then, or just study 3 years in English??? 🫠
@annikagail
2 ай бұрын
there’s no korean language requirement for the international yonsei program!
Hi can I ask how u applied and was it like a scholarship or smthing
You remind me of Hanni from Newjeans, your smile is also very pretty 😻

Do you get separate restrooms in dorms or is it in sharing?
@annikagail

in sk global, each room (singles or doubles) get their own bathroom. in international house, there is one bathroom for the entire floor!
hi! i’m thinking of applying for a study abroad at yonsei, particularly so i can solidify my korean!! by the looks of it though, it does seem like a lot of things are separate for international students, so i wanted to ask do you study alongside home students? or are things separated for study abroad/global students?
@annikagail

hiii! when applying for classes you are give a long, long list of all the available classes. you do have to select classes that are “exchange available.” i was only looking at classes taught in english, so that limited my options slightly. but some of these english-taught classes are specifically for exchange students and will consist only of other international students. however, many of these english-taught classes will be available for both local students and exchange. in my schedule it’s about half and half, so not to worry! you’ll be with both local and exchange students :)

@@Yeuvri you can get by with very little Korean since classes are in English and menus tend to have pictures/english on them. Just spend a few weeks learning the alphabet and how to order food, and that's already plenty

for the spring semester, i was a little late to applying, so i applied in early october. the applications are open i believe september through october, but i’m not positive. i would definitely check online or with some sort of advisor!
Hey I'll be going there next semester! Any tips with classes?
@annikagail
Ай бұрын
if you’re going as an exchange student, honestly i would recommend to go lighter rather than packing your classes. if you need to do max amount of credits, then of course do that! but if you have more flexibility, i would recommend to lean into a lighter course load. you’re going to want to explore and maybe even travel, so taking less classes will allow you to explore korea and also have the right amount of time to focus on the classes you have. i have no classes on fridays, which has been more of a benefit than i could have anticipated. it allows for long weekends for trips, and there are less crowds in touristy places on weekdays (before 3pm). for the actual classes themselves, if you’re taking all english classes, then it’ll be taught in relatively the same structure. it shouldn’t be too much adjustment, but always be adaptive! :)
did you shop and do everything from scholarship / expenses given by university ????
@annikagail

i applied later close to the deadline so i didn’t get any scholarships with yonsei. however, i applied for a scholarship offered by my home university and received one that way :)

If I will study at Yongsei on scholarship , will I pay for flat? And in international house has only rooms for one person or for 4 people too have? And 3rd question, for master's students too will live in international house?
@annikagail
Ай бұрын
for the scholarship i received, it only applied towards my tuition. i had to pay for my housing in full separately. i-house only has doubles, and it is only for international undergraduate students. graduate students have their own dorm!
I just wanna know if it's your first time there in korea how did u got friends?
@annikagail

yes! it’s my first time ever visiting korea! before the semester started, my program had a list of students also going and we made a gc with everyone and talked that way. there is also a discord server with all international yonsei students where i met people. i reached out to several people individually through instagram, which is always hit or miss in making a connection, but i met some people that way! when i got there, i hung out in common areas (especially the emart connected to the dorms!) and met people there :)
Can you tell what course you're studying there

i found my study abroad resources through my home university in the us, which directed me to a 3rd party program! if these sort of resources aren’t available to you, i’m sure if you do some quick research, you can find the right 3rd party program to connect you to yonsei or apply directly :)
