Vlog #1 | ELIA WOOD, PROFESSIONAL DRUMMER

Ойын-сауық

This is my first vlog while performing with Shania Twain! I shot this on December 12th, 2021. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions you'd like me to answer. Hope you enjoy.
I talk about what it felt like coming back after a long break due to 2020 being 2020, what I do to warm up, how I even got this gig with Shania Twain, the audition process, and my first world tour at the ripe age of 19 years old.
I play:
Gretsch Drums
TRX Cymbals
Ahead Drum Sticks
Remo Drum Heads
0:00 Intro
0:34 What it felt like to be back?
2:15 My routine
3:54 How did I start playing with Shania Twain?
6:35 My first big tour
10:31 What I learned
12:45 After the show
13:08 Conclusion

I have no doubt that the reason you got the job was not just drumming ability but your general approach to it and demeanour. Your humbleness and appreciation of the sheer volume of experience around you and your desire to learn from it should be a 101 lesson for any aspiring musician. Also, it is rare for me to want to watch 15 minutes of someone talking about themselves, but I was delighted to watch this because you were so humble, and so open and honest and absolutely zero ego. So I have subbed in case you happen to vlog again. In the meantime, have a great break and holiday.

Agree 100% A solid down to earth drummer is a good drummer. Look at Phil Rudd. It's all about holding that perfect beat. Everything I've seen on Elia is on point. The infectious way she approaches it is fantastic.

Thank you for V-logging and telling your story. You are inspiring! I've been drumming for 40 years now and my dream was always to make it to the arena level and feel the energy of a crowd of this capacity. Biggest crowd I ever played was 10,000 and that was amazing but you've done it at the beginning of your life. Wow, 19 years old when you auditioned and you got it. That's so amazing. I can envision that first show and being so nervous to even sit behind the kit and hit that first note but you did it successfully and got the thumbs up from Shania. I can just picture that. Thank you for being you and showing the world that females can rock behind the kit on a professional level. You now have a new fan. Take care.

I hope to come away with just a little slice of the presence, joy and movement that appears to come very naturally to you. This vlog, btw, was really good. Elia - this is an amazing vlog - a mentor journey story that is grounded, humble, real and from your heart!!! The opportunity that you have been given (and worked hard at) and never took it for granted and still don't!!! Your character and attitude shine through and this would most definitely resonate with Shania (E) as a woman to woman - supporting women but beyond this, a break that is few and far between especially for women - E saw right through that... to your heart and natural gifted talent (to further develop and build on) and that my dear is priceless in women leadership!!! You are amazing and play from a place deep in your soul - educating yourself on self-care as well and sharing this is so important for those who wish to follow or dream of one day playing in a band and tour of Shania's scale - Keep being you and sharing you cause this journey thus far from 19 to 25 is so inspiring for those aspiring!!! Well Done!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Every time I see a video, drum cam, or interview with you, I am so inspired to play the guitar better. I know I will never be professional but it doesn't even matter. I can't think of a better compliment for you. So talented and down to earth. You really inspire. Please do more vlog's. Really enjoyed it. Best of luck!

I won’t lie, I almost never post on these things…but in this case I feel I must. You are an absolutely phenomenal musician. Hands down, without debate. But I wanted to comment more on the amazing person behind this vlog. Words like humble, and thoughtful come to mind, yet I don’t feel they do you any justice. There is a genuine, honest, brave, and super sweet person behind that rockin exterior. I really like your music but I am a super fan of you as a person. Im not sure married 40 year olds with PhDs in religion are your typical musical or personal fan base, but you definitely have both me and my wife over. Keep doing you, and everyone will keep loving it!

When someone goes by one name for a while and then changes it, and some writers still spell it the old way, it’s easy for the public to be confused or never even know there was a change. I’m still trying to figure out the preferred pronouns because they vary in different places, too.

I enjoyed every second of this. Please keep these videos coming. I promise you we will follow this channel. I’m a drummer myself and it’s good to see professionals share their story and how they got to where they are now.

Hi there, Elijah! Yes! More please!! I loved this! I've been watching videos of your drum cams for quite some time, admiring your incredible talent, but I've ever been able to read a lot about you as a person and what goes on behind the scenes. Let me tell you, I've never thought what you do is easy! Man, you play your heart out! I would love to see one of her shows live - she's an incredible artist. And so are you!! Thank you for sharing this with us, Elijah, and have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Safe, and Joyful New Year!
