I bought a cheap pair of barefoot shoes from Amazon to give it a go. Just walked the dog in them every morning. Now my feet feel so trapped in regular toe boxes that I am only wearing altra for work/ hiking and the Amazon barefoot shoes for everything else. Great video

@@TheBarefootStrengthProject I bought those whitins too, mostly out of desperation because working retail in Sketchers, Vans, Reeboks etc. wasnt working. it's been 4 months now and even with a 12 hr shift my feet never hurt as bad as they did in the conventional styles (now usually not at all). it hurts a bit at first because your body is adjusting, but long term for me it has been a dramatic improvement.

I could not agree more on how addictive and durable they are. I walk, run, work, go out and do crossfit ,including rop climbs, in these shoes and have done so for almost a year now and they are indestructible. They are not the widest out of all the barefoot shoes but for most people they are more than adequate and a huge upgrade from the average shoe width!

Awesome review. Subbed.....let's get you to 1,000! I'm 59. Made the switch to "barefoot" shoes in 2012, as did my then 12yr old daughter. Our tool of choice was, and still is, the Vibram FiveFingers. We train, race, and run long distance trail runs in them, like our R2R's at the Grand Canyon, and have a few videos posted to the channel. When the Vivo's came out, we bought the Primus Trails, and loved/love them. Do to the kind of trail running we do, we find the Vivo's too heavy, and stiff, but again, that's just our opinion, based on the kind of training and running we do. We love the Vivo's as a hiking shoe, if we're not wearing the FF's for some reason. A few years ago, I started wearing them at work, because the traditional "mechanic's" oxford style shoes were really aggravating my knees. That all changed as soon as the Vivo's were worn! And talk about durability; how's 9hrs a day, standing, on oil and gasoline covered, gritty, concrete floors sound? I can get about year out of a pair, maybe just a little more. Your absolutely right about not wanting to wear "traditional" shoes. It's miserable. For anyone looking for more normal looking/dress shoes, Lems are outstanding.

Sounds like you and your daughter are a dream team and can very much see how after so many years in five fingers, where each toe can move independently, the vivos would feel stiffer. Interesting what you say about them as a work shoe, is this a trail or hiking model? I’ve absolutely heard of others doing the same though, from landscape gardeners to on-site builders. Pretty amazing they can hold up so well in conditions as harsh as yours! Thanks again 🙌🏽

@@TheBarefootStrengthProject Mine are the Primus Trail Firm Ground model. When the local trails get too hard packed and rock strewn in the late Fall, we switch to a different running tool. Our other favorites are the Merrell Trail Gloves and Vapor Gloves (the early models), and the New Balance Minimus, 10v1. The R2R's at the Grand Canyon are borderline too rock and gravel strewn for the FF's, but we wear them anyway, because it's fun.

What a great video, you are bang on, I’ve been running for decades and suffered all the pains which come with it in Nikes brooks Salomon etc,.. I remember getting a pair of 5 fingers 5 or 6 years ago and I can’t lie i really struggled with them. But I’ve stuck with it and I think if anyone is thinking of transitioning to these types of shoes is to go full in take it easy at first but don’t give up as it takes time to adjust ,..a long time. Gradually change all of your shoes to barefoot style and once your feet and calves have adjusted walking in any shoe with a heel will feel odd. I run in 5 fingers but my favourite are vivobarefoot primus lite 3, running in either is such a natural free feeling for your feet and body there’s no way I’m going back to the old spongey trainers which looking back are just a load marketing tripe to get you spending more money on there latest model which be honest you don’t need. The waterproof spray available on Vivos site and it works very well - 1 use over the past 3 months. Otherwise, they are a highly versatile shoe both in function and styling. I do basically everything in them, running, lifting, and day-to-day wear. The only problem is that all my other shoes don't fit anymore but I suppose this is a good sign that my feet are beginning to recover from years in standard shoes. Hope this helps!

I am completely hooked on barefoot shoes! I own the primus lite bio, geo courts, and gobi’s. My next purchase of Vivos will be for disc golf specifically as I am a sponsored player and it’s the only area I am not wearing barefoot shoes. Would you recommend the Primus Trail FG all weathers? I would like them to be waterproof for early morning dew and rain. Main surfaces are cement teepads, grass, dirt and pine needles. Thanks for the insight of your channel and spreading the love/passion/knowledge of barefoot life!! Much love brother!

  • @TheBarefootStrengthProject

The Primus Trail FG would be my choice for sure - it isn’t waterproof (though is quick drying). The alternative would be the new Tracker Decon FG low tops, initially designed for hiking, I’ve found them to be better suited to hybridised training styles. The only let down for you specifically could be the lack of grip on wet/damp concrete. Given your tee pads are cement that could be a critical failing, so yes, Primus Trail FG with perhaps some temporarily damp feet.

Really been wanting to get these, trying to pick between this and xero ($120 vs. $160). I bought the cheap Amazon ones a while back to try minimalistic shoes figuring I would soon upgrade, but they keep hanging on! I have some vibram toe shoes, but I mainly use them for hiking since I got a version with an aggressive tread but I mostly do road running. I'm currently 250lbs and do 3 5ks a week, would be cool to work up to a half marathon in these. Happy to see a heavier guy reviewing, looking forward to more from the channel.

I've had a pair of Vivo Primus Lite for 6 years, and walked over 6,000 miles in them. In the last 12 months they gradually developed a couple of small holes in the mesh and in the last 6 months a hole has gradually worn through in one of the soles - so need to replace them. I've also thrown them into the washing machine several times. Will buy another pair, but this time will go with the All Weather version.

I have office job and for work I wear casual shoes like Red Tape's most of the day. Those are not very comfortable for 10 hours a day so I'm considering buying Vivos. Is it ok for me to combine very cusioned shoes with Vivos? What should be the adjustment time and how should it look like?

Yes, absolutely - the transition time may take a little longer as you're flicking back and forth but you'll also be mitigating the risk of developing issues or injuries. It could be worthwhile looking to use toe spacers to help accelerate your transition time though.

Hey Logan, the answer is in your question - it very much depends on the conditions and your personal tolerance! In winter I tend to leave them in as concrete sucks the heat out of your feet, in summer I’ll take them out. If I’m hiking then same story, if I know it’ll be really sharp, rocky ground all day, I’ll take the extra cushioning in a heart beat, if not, I’ll cruise without them there. They’re so easy to take in and out you really can just pick and choose! Hope that helps 🙌🏽

Hey Binnie, I wore toe spacers every day for 30 days straight as an experiment. Though useful at the start my feet bedded into them pretty quickly so now I just wear them a couple of times per week for a few hours at a time. As for socks, I used to wear toe socks a lot BUTTTTT after a couple of months got fed up of the constant sorting of lefts from rights, getting them inside out (and making sure every toe is pushed through as well), they were just too much of a headache. Instead I wear socks that have no designated left or right as they are much less conforming and I wear them pretty much all the time. The only exception is sport socks which I'll wear on long runs or certain training sessions.

  • @TheBarefootStrengthProject

It really comes down to a case by case basis but generally, I find insoles mask the issue, they don't fix the problem meaning it will get perpetually worse over time. You may want to consider using them whilst also developing your foot strength with barefoot shoes, like the ones from vivobarefoot which will give you a much better chance of addressing the root cause of the problem. The exercises I outlined in my most recent video 'How To Fix Plantar Fasciitis' would really help with that.

Not enough of them! Any socks that have set designations of Left or Right are generally tapered in and will pull your toes in as normal shoes. But those that can go whichever way around TEND (as far as I can tell at least) to be either less elasticated or less of a fixed spread allowing better toe spread. There probably are some anatomical socks out there though and if anyone can recommend a brand HMU 🙌🏽

I think for the most part people in conventional shoes tend to buy the incorrect size. At least that was the issue for me. And I've noticed people in shoe stores buying shoes with their toes near the end of the shoe. I was doing the same, I never realized that I was buying shoes that just barely fit my feet. Of course it doesn't help when toe-boxes are so narrow. When I switched to barefoot shoes I did the same, my feet "grew" (more like spread out as they were no longer being squeezed together) and I needed a larger size. Went from wearing a size 9 US (conventional shoes) then to women's 10.5 US (minimalist shoes). I'm lucky I didn't end up with hammer toes or bunions because of my previous bad habits.
