Actually, just ordered the Ultra on wondamobile 2 days ago. I was deciding between the Vivo x100 Ultra, Vivo x100 Pro and the Oppo Find X7 Ultra. Ultimately went with this one and your review definitely makes me feel like i made the right decision. Such beautiful shots you took. Kinda sucks that here in America everyone is blinded by Apple, Samsung and Google to not see what else is truly out there. China is honestly the king of smartphones and it’s not even close.

Why is nobody mentioning in any X100 Ultra review that you now can change brightness, contrast, sharpness and saturation with a button directly in automatic mode. It is such an important thing, as people in some reviews were complaining about photos being slightly oversharpened or a bit to bright, but as you can change that so easily and it will keep the settings that way if you want, it is even better, bc like that it gets perfect for every person no matter what style somebody prefers. Also in general different situation sometimes need different settings, so even if you like the default look, if you really care about your photos you still might want something different in some situations. On all the other phones you can't change these settings except for brightness which means you have to edit them afterwards on your phone or on the computer. But if a photo is oversharpened you can't really change that afterwards, at least not directly on the phone. So I think it's mega important to talk about that feature and I've only seen one photographer with a relatively small KZread channel who did mention that in his review of the X100 Ultra

Agree. The general trend is to show sample photos and very fast snapshots of the camera app interface and that's enough to make people happy - because the photos are indeed amazing. But I agree that the configurability of settings and the level of advancement of exposure control in the X100 Ultra are a far cry from the competition, worthy of a completely separate video for a complete demonstration of the possibilities that are unlike anything in previous Android smartphones.

I think no one talks about this yet, but coming from vivo x100 pro last month and have the ultra now, the autofocus on the new telephoto lens is faster especially when you shoot macro and longer zooms like airplanes than the pro. The pro is a hit or miss especially with plane shots and most of the time you need to tap to focus but it will be hard to track the plane while doing it. The 85mm is a better option for me when I use it for composing shots.

Vivo X70 pro series such an incredible device...that device blowed my mind at night photos and incredible dynamic range. Vivo just moved upwards only

that's an ultra feature. but you're right, if they put a pro on the name it should have pro features.

Are you going to do a dedicated video comparing the updated cameras, including video and photo samples in low light situation from main, tele and selfie cameras, against other flagships? Please include samples from fx7 ultra, 14 ultra e x100p!

About the battery - it's a major diffrence between X100 Ultra and X100 Pro, because of diffrent technology used in battery. X100 Pro has 5400mAh cap, with standard Li-Ion battery tech. X100 Ultra has slightly bigger capacity of 5500mAh, but... it is made with diffrent material: Si-C (silicon carbon), which can withstand a high temperatures and low temperatures and don't get damaged. That is huge diffrence, which means, that kind of Si-C battery will much slower degrade over time.

Please showcase more of the main and telephoto lens using 4k120fps. I think thats the real marvel reviewers are skipping over. This phone is built for cinematic video without the extra software processing. All natural bokeh.

I heard from the Average Dad YT that Origin OS feels more like a global OS even without it's China exclusivity. Is there any downsides or issues if we want to import the Ultra and use it daily?

You must remove a lot of bloadware. Alot of Origin Kits still have Chinese Symbols even after setting to your language. You can't use Jovi, same like Siri. Exept you can talk Chinese. You can access a lot of newspapers or media but all from China. This origin os offers extrem much but you can't use it all. But what you can use is still enough. But would be an unbelievable phone if you could use all of it. I got the origin os version on my Vivo x90 pro plus from China. I would still buy it. Maybe I'm going to buy the ultra soon.

Man Vivo's cameras and image processing are just awesome. I've been a fan ever since they introduced their X series. Originally, I was an avid supporter of Oppo but I feel they have gone downhill... Especially with their Reno series. I'm glad to be a Vivo user now, even though it's just the V30 but I still love the camera for an upper mid-range phone. Hehe

I read on reddit the video is jittering due to OIS and electronic stabilisation and that there are many bugs in the software. (Lightroom over saturated and not in the gallery for ex), lack of battery optimization etc... ur thoughts on those?

the pro have inferior hardware compared to the ultra, worst display, worst speakers, worst fingeprint scanner to be carefull what you choose , many reviewers just test the camera

Is the 960 fps mode interpolated are is it real frames? Can you post some 960 fps samples?

@@adyady3099 Selfie photos are good. Better than in other phones... just the video hdr is not working so good as in previous vivos... probably is because it need some camera software upgrade... I know that they can improve it... is the only problem i see at the momment...

I just want vivo to have the same cinematic mode on the back camera with the front camera. I wanna have that 4k30 cinematic mode on the front cam.

How does it compare to oppo find x7 ultra?

I have the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and I wish it had that humanistic mode. Great review always!

What about a Huawei Petal Clip edit app as long as a native video editing tool? It is not a third party and does the same job.

I think Americans don't officially get this phone. That's why it doesn't get much attention. Ben's audience is more international so it makes sense.

Great video! I have the X100 Ultra since Monday and I l really love it! One comment regarding video editing in the X100 Pro with Funtouch OS: it also has a video editor with the same features.

In case you don't know what the Multiple Users feature is: The Multiple Users feature allows a phone user to create several spaces (usually 5 spaces maximum including the Guest space) in the phone and enables users to download, install and change different settings, media (photos and videos), data and games in each created space. Every single space can be accessed through a fingerprint and password or a pin!

I should start using the humanistic mode more often,the shots you got are unreal bro ! I'm amazed by this phone everyday more, amazing video and straight to the point ! Imagine the big camera updates Vivo will bring how much will it improve it

Amazing Video. Delivered with genuine energy and warmth. I have found a bug of sorts with the image HDR On setting. It subdues vibrancies. Shooting with it off fixes it but ...no HDR. Hope Vivo addresses it. Ben have you seen the same.

Yes, it has. Aside from not having Android auto and some other caveats, Origin OS is better than Funtouch OS. Sending from X100 Ultra (previous owner of global ver. X100 Pro)

i did and its worth it for battery life alone, it still has same bad idle drain like x90 pro+ which is very annoying but the much bigger battery masks it, i can finally get battery life similar to s24 ultra now the main cam is only slightly better tho i noticed some strange reflections with lights, ultrawide is the same but the zoom lens is on another level and finally usable in low light too also it now has HDR for 60fps 4k too and 4k cinematic video, fingerprint sensor is a downgrade tho

Watching this on my Xiaomi 14. Great review. I'd like to convince my wife to have this as her next smartphone.❤

imma just tell you, vivo will easily win, it has better edge detection, bigger sensor which gives hardware bokeh , it's telephoto lens is usable even in lower light unlike samsung's , nice filters like the vintage filter and the HD portrait option on vivo is mind blowing, the level of details are on DSLR level.

Just a small correction vivo x100 pro is 1/2" zoom lens

I don't know but I don't like the X100U's cameras, sometimes the HDR isn't the best, the colors aren't natural, the texture isn't the best either... but the zoom at night also sometimes has difficulties and there's noise but I I like the style of the Xiaomi 14U more because of Leica... that's why I prefer Xiaomi over Vivo

As usual, Vivo will always surprise me, but what also keeps me from going to them is their closed system. For example, Rooting your Vivo, etc. is something I use on a daily basis all the time on my Xiaomi.

Happy with my vivo x100s pro the only con i got it takes like one hour to charge, after several test and questions, i came to realize that it is vivo via kernel or software that has a limiter after you pass 40%, starts to decreasin speed, but the vivo x100 pro didn't had that limiter, it's kind weird problem, any idea friend?

Ithing the main camera the need a combination of In Sensor Stabilizator or normal OIS+EIS, meanwhile the UW and the Tele need a Gimbal for a better Photos and videos at night, i remember the X70 Pro+ with thr Gimbal on the UW, that was and still is the best UW for videos and photos at night AND in movement special, Vivo need to bring that again.

Great video, Ben. As always! I'm writing from my X100 Ultra, best camera phone ever created, period. I am one of those who upgraded from the X100 Pro to the Ultra, and I would say it was totally worth. Here's a list of the upgrades you can expect: -Better screen: the bump in resolution is actually very noticeable, and the brightness under direct sunlight has been raised -Better fingerprint sensor: this one is ultrasonic and it is better positioned (the Pro was optical and positioned too low) -Better speakers: a proper stereo speakers setup, with good volume and way more bass than the ones on the Pro, which sounds quite bad -Better mobile signal reception -Better front camera: the front camera on the Pro doesn't have autofocus, the one on the Ultra does. The subsequent bump in quality and sharpness is really noticeable, but sometimes the photos come up a little overshapened. This brings me to the next point. -Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 allows you to install GCam, which basically fix the oversharpened selfie photos. You could install GCam on the Pro, but since it had a Mediatek processor, the compatibility was meh and it was pretty impossible to make the front camera work. -Wider ultrawide: as Ben said, the ultrawide photos are good but on par with the Pro, but the slightly wider field of view helps a lot -Better telephoto lens: Ben said it all, no need to add anything, I'll just say that it can produce mirrorless-like photos like any other smartphone on the market. Every photo is just jawdropping. -New photo modes: Humanistic Street Photography mode, Stage mode, Underwater mode. Street Photography + new black and white color mode = chef's kiss! -Better hair cutout in Portrait Mode -New video modes: LOG recording on the main sensor in Pro mode, 4k 120fps one the main and telephoto sensor (3,7x 4k 120fps slow motion footage is pure cinema) Things that got a little worse: -Battery charging power went down from 100W to 80W (wired) and from 50W to 30W (wireless). To me it's not a problem, since I always charge the phone at max 25W to prevent overheating and battery degradation. Things that could be improved in general: -Battery life is really good but to me could get even better with updates -Dynamic range on front camera videos is not great, the sky is often clipped -Night skies are very bright and tend to be very blue. I like it but it would be perfect if they added a toggle to switch between realistic dark sky and enhanced blue sky (there is a toggle in the Settings, but it does not make any difference) If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

@@sleepy1171 Yeah, Oppo does have a great Portrait mode, but I wouldn't say it is necessarily better than the Vivo. On the Vivo you have so many customizations available, such as the possibility to choose between many Zeiss bokeh modes and presets and filters.

I have also taken human photos in Humanistic Photography mode and I think those photos actually look really good! I love that there is so many modes on this phone, it is insane. I get lost in the sauce when taking shots 🥷🏼 This is my first Vivo phone. Here is what I've owned 2015 (Samsung Galaxy S5) laggy 2017 ( HTC U11) hated the keyboard 2018 (Huawei Mate 20x) loved this 2022 (Samsung S22U) it's okay. 2024 (Vivo x100u) mind = blown
