idk, the feeling of hearing this like he's on a race to end summer as fast as possible. It feels like its played on 2x speed. The way he plays also sounds very rough.

I believe you should listen to "Voice of music" version. It's amazing!
At 9:14 I had never heard this section WITHOUT the slowing down, like in most recordings. I had to look at the sheet music to see that THAT is how it's WRITTEN!!!! (Although the tempo is much higher here) I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT THIS WAY!!!!!

I liked it too, but my favorite version so far has been the one from Joshua Bell, really enjoyed this one though
So much imagination in their playing. Really gives Summer a new perspective I've never seen before. Probably the best version out there.
Vivaldi was the rock star composer of his day. Sato plays it like contemporary rock as much as that is possible and from what my ears tell me - it works.

I must say that this interpretation is really original....
you know what i‘m jealous at… as a pianist we‘re really actually limited what kind of sounds we can produce. and SATO REALLY KNOWS THAT HE CAN PRODUCE SO MANY THINGS WITH HIS INSTRUMENT. he really gets EVERYTHING from his instrument. congrats.. what can i say bro
Shunske Sato leads his fellow musicians close to the edge and through an exciting interpretation of Vivaldi's masterpiece. For me this is music with a capital M. Thank you so much.
Whatever style 1st violin wants to impulse, this interpretation shows that, again, Vivaldi Summer universal masterpiece puts the background orchestra in the middle of the storm. They rock like hell. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Don't forget to read Vivaldi's sonnet to fully understand the piece: Allegro non molto Under a hard season, fired up by the sun Languishes man, languishes the flock and burns the pine We hear the cuckoo's voice; then sweet songs of the turtledove and finch are heard. Soft breezes stir the air, but threatening the North Wind sweeps them suddenly aside. The shepherd trembles, fearing violent storms and his fate. Adagio e piano - Presto e forte The fear of lightning and fierce thunder Robs his tired limbs of rest As gnats and flies buzz furiously around. Presto Alas, his fears were justified The Heavens thunder and roar and with hail Cut the head off the wheat and damages the grain.
Brilliant. Runs chills up and down my spine. Like I never heard it before...
That sound he makes is insaaaane!
this "drowning" interpretation was so special!!! incredible...
Truly breathtaking. I thought I would never hear a different interpretation of this piece, but this recording forced me to stop what I was doing and listen in awe!
That violin sounds so good!
Period instruments... great, and the courage in interpretation.
A performance that is wild, spectacular, and majestic all at the same time.
The originality, creativity and verve conveyed by the orchestra and soloist is phenomenal!! I love it!!!!
The best one I have ever seen... awesome so expressive...
Antonio Vivaldi was one the greatest musician of all the. His level was up above the sky. What a pity that only people on earth can listen to these masterpiece
A most remarkable interpretation! Sago is definitely a master!
I've heard many versions of The Four Seasons, but this one is definitely the best I've ever heard! :) Fantastic dynamics, feeling of the music. And recorded very clearly :) I love it!
This may be closer to Vivaldi's time interpretations then modern ones (Even historically informed) . I think solists allowed themselves to be extremely wild before. Bravi as usual!
Wow! How to put new life into an over-played piece... Of the (far too) many recordings of this concerto, this is the best I have ever heard: hugely exciting and inspiring.
Take the freedom to go into the heart of the piece . F A N T A S T I C.

Superb in every way as is the case with Netherlands Bach.
when can the world understand that only this kind of music and quality of music playing would go the deepest in human heart and soul?
A passionate and mesmerizing performance of a work of genius.
Vivaldi truly was a rockstar.
I thought NBS only records J.S. Bach's work. By the way, this interpretation is fabulous. Go, Vivaldi!

Thanks! Normally we only record works of Bach indeed. However, the NBS also regularly performs works by other composers. Since Vivaldi's Four Seasons was part of a program with other (Bach) works, we decided to record this work as well this time.

@The MIDI Bach Project let's not forget that Bach literally "revived" Vivaldi's works , because Vivaldi , he was gone almost unknown to people ( because the trends have changed in the time Vivaldi was old) and after he died he was completely unknown anymore , almost no one haved interest in his music until Bach discovered his works and was very inspired ( even wrote some pieces that were inspired from Vivaldi's works) . The same story almost about Bach , Mendelssohn haved "revived" Bach. It exist even an rumour around that Mendelssohn when he get to a butcher to buy some meat , he observed that the butcher used some manuscripts that were actually sheets of music , to put his meat in it.

What a wonderful interpretation. Captures the essential spirit of this set of concerti. I have so much respect for the Netherlands Bach Society that they could play this on washboard and tin whistles and I would think it the best performance I ever heard. amazing colour of dynamics

Bravo Mr. Sato... and bravi tutti to your NBS colleagues. Thank you for an absolutely thrilling performance. My husband is usually bored by Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", but he was at the edge of his seat for this performance. You're an extraordinary player, of Vivaldi as well as Bach. Mille grazie! P.S. Do you also play the Piazzola "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires"?
