VIVALDI // 'Juditha triumphans, RV 644: Air Armatae face et anguibus' by Jupiter
Музыка
Album out in October 2019
Stream//Download//Buy → lnk.to/Jupiter_VivaldiID
In founding the Jupiter ensemble, the lutenist Thomas Dunford wanted to ‘rediscover the spirit of chamber music in the Baroque repertory. Jupiter operates in a kind of fraternity, as if we had always known each other . . . Vivaldi’s highly contrasted music demands precisely this natural response - almost like improvisation’. Lea Desandre speaks of a ‘search for colour and almost limitless inflections. This music was the “pop” of the eighteenth century’. The Franco-Italian mezzo, named ‘Révélation lyrique’ (vocal newcomer of the year) at the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2017, performs arias from operas including Il Giustino, Juditha triumphans, Il Farnace and Griselda, as well as the famous ‘Cum dederit’ from the Nisi Dominus. The programme also includes four concertos, for lute in D major, for lute and violin, for bassoon in G minor and for cello in G minor. In addition to Thomas Dunford on lute, Peter Whelan on bassoon and the cellist Bruno Philippe, also a ‘Révélation’ at the Victoires de la Musique (2018), this flamboyant programme features Jean Rondeau on harpsichord and organ, Cecilia Bernardini and Louis Creac’h (violins), Jérôme Van Waerbeke (viola) and Douglas Balliett (double bass).

In fact, 300 years ago there was already all the musical material that we use today in light music. Tonality, structure, dramaturgy … there is nothing new today. And, if we are honest, this light music of Antonio Vivaldi was of way better quality than most of the musical pollution that terrorizes us today wherever we go and stand.

I’ve been long convinced that you could take basically anything by Vivaldi, Bach, Händel, the Haydn brothers, Mozart, Hummel, etc., change the instrumentation a bit, brand it as “new music,” and it would sell big time.

As someone who listens to a lot of metal, this sounds very metal to me. And not only just the music, but also the attitude. The singer is very much into it, she really puts all her heart, and you can also see all other musicians moving their heads with the 'beat'. The harpsichord guy also seems very much feeling the 'beat'. Oh, and this last note, this hits hard in the guts. This is really a great thing to be able to witness this kind of recordings. Thank you

@@lweberl24 Glad to hear you are interested. Metal music is a very very broad genre and contains many many subgenre, some of them being rather 'easy-listening', some other being... Well, not easy-listening at all :) As a very soft introduction, I can definitely recommend the band Nightwish, which has a huge orchestral aspect to the sound (most of the time the studio albums are recorded with a real orchestra) Here is a good example kzread.info/dash/bejne/fI2eq86Bh6WnhtI.html (I took the live version because I believe this singer did a better job for the end of the song) Withing Temptation is really a classic in symphonic metal, e.g. this song kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJl7ztCoacS7oNo.html Also, Epica kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4J73M6te8LanMY.html These bands are among the most famous and 'classics' for this particular genre, which is rather close to classical music, in my view. Also, these are rather 'soft', so it's not too big of a leap for you in the metal world. If you like those, there are hundreds of similar bands out there: After Forever, Delain, Unleash the Archers, Xandria, Kamelot, etc... Also, those are not necessarily "good" in an objective sense, as I said metal is a very broad genre and those bands are only limited to one subgenre, which some metalheads might not appreciate. You might like it and find it good, or you might not. I hope this helps!

This performance is done with the least voice & head & body tension, when compared to other great singer's performances available on YT (e.g. Bartoli). Respect. It is also more enjoyable to watch, when the only tension within the band (singler included) comes from enjoyment of the music performed, not from a struggle for perfection (even if achieved).
Splendida interpretazione. Tutti bravissimi, orchestrali e soprano!

I absolutely love these young musicians and the marvelous singer. Truly the great benefit of living in this time and age is having access to gems like this performance!!!
Gorgeous ! bringing together the best young performers of baroque music of the moment!! For information, the ensemble of Thomas Dunford (the lutenist) is called Jupiter probably in homage to a very virtuoso piece by Forqueray senior, which "moves" a little in the same vein, especially when Jupiter triggers the lightning of his anger with great blows of triple quavers for the viola da gamba.
Does anyone notice the syncopations in the accompaniment at 0:58? They are not in the score! Lovely when improvisatory elements are brought back into classical music!

Un magnifique moment musical ! Splendide interprétation de Léa Desandre !
My goodness, that final C is like suddenly dying by impalement but in a good way.
