Mi innamorai di questo concerto quando vidi il film "Un ragazzo di Calabria". Avrà contribuito il talento immenso di Gian Maria Volontè, le corse del ragazzo e i suoi sogni in volo, ma Vivaldi è Vivaldi, inconfondibilmente unico! Colonna sonora perfetta.

Uno dei piu' bei concerti di Vivaldi...... Nella musica strumentale barocca, secondo me, il Prete Rosso e' stato il numero uno dell'epoca!!!!

This sounds so venetian. You can almost hear the water flowing through the canals on a summer night while the orchestra plays. Brilliant!

Most of that sound is due to tye construction if the instrument, but even the best instrument can be played to produce an inferior sound. That's where the musicians come in. The gentleman playing here is superb as are all the musicians! A wonderful recording.

Che bel regalo poter fruire della musica dei grandi del passato e sopratutto potersi subito informare sulla storia degli stessi, sono certo che l'umanità evolverà come mai fino ad ora, in ogni ambito, almeno questo il mio augurio, è probabile inizialmente ci sia un prezzo da pagare,ma col tempo verranno fuori i vantaggi e soluzioni a problemi che non sono stati toccati fin'ora per svariati motivi.

Galfetti es violin solista de I Barocchisti que dirige Diego Fasolis. Imperdible 'Las 4 Estaciones' de Vivaldi. La version explicada en dialecto por un actor...

String orchestration in pizzicato works very well to the "plucky" sounds of the mandoline. Vivaldi was genious.

The Milanese mandoline was a somewhat larger than this early baroque mandoline played here, it was also single strung and played with fingers, there are no contemporary pictures to my knowledge that show the use of a pick on any of the early mandolins Milanese otherwise. Since Vivaldi was employed at the Santa Maria Della Pieta in Venice it is unlikely though not impossible that he wrote for the Milanese instrument. However, personally I think this is a lovely recording and I have recorded the double concerto with The Academy of St Martin In The Fields using a pick!

In thelast 60s I used to have this concerto with "I Solisti di Zagreb" in a vinyl record that my mother sent me to Mexico, where I was studyng, from Venezuela. Since then I started loving the magnificent of Vivaldi's music. How great! here very well played. Awesome!

As a mandolinist, it looks like the violins had a much harder time than the soloist! All that pizzicato with just the index finger, and holding the bow too! Nice to see so many Italians in the comments :) Ciao ragazzi! Ho vissuto a Bologna per alcuni anni. Una bellissima città.

For my brothers and sisters of the mandolin who are confused with all the strings on that little beastie: that's a Lombardic mandolin, not our now better known Neapolitan or "standard" mandolin. It's tuned g-b-e′-a′-d″-g″ with its lower G the same as ours. Mandolin pieces by Vivaldi were written for this style of mandolin, and they're actually easier to play on this style over the modern style. The scale length normally only goes up to f'', not quite an octave, but they occasionally may have a couple frets for the higher strings on the sound board, much like a lute. It had a fixed bridge, not a movable one. There is also a similar looking Genoese mandolin, tuned like a guitar an octave higher, and with a movable bridge.

Que alguien me explique por favor ¿por qué Vivaldi es tan subestimado por los musicólogos? Siempre hablan de Beethoveen, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Liszt... este y el otro como los referentes, y nunca se les escucha nada acerca de Vivaldi, ¿acaso no lo consideran un músico serio? para mí es lejos el padre de la música clásica y el mayor genio de este campo en la historia. Me entristece como recalcan a los demás mientras a Vivaldi apenas y lo podemos conocer por medio de unos pocos músicos que han rescatado su obra. Él no es un tonto detrás del telón, él es el dueño del show, más que genio, es un iluminado.

+Darnack Esto es muy cierto, pero está cambiando. La respuesta: ignorancia y el sentimiento de superioridad de los alemanes y los anglosajones...Pero hoy día se está revirtiendo el asunto. Le recomiendo la biografía de Vivaldi por el musicólogo inglés Michael Talbot (disponible en español) al igual que la del difunto musicólogo alemán Karl Heller. Saludos!

+Zombie Guitar Bach NO ES el Padre de la Musica. La Musica existe en el ser humano desde que es ser humano. Incluso existe en los animales, sobre todo en las aves, las cuales bailan al ritmo de la música. Y quién ha dicho que nadie conoce a Domenico Scarlatti? De hecho él ha sido siempre famoso (y por mucho tiempo más que Vivaldi, quien ha sido un re-descubrimiento desde los 1920s-30s, y sobre todo en los '50s). Pero Scarlatti, excelente como es, no es Vivaldi. Grande era el Padre de Domenico, Alessandro Scarlatti.

Ibis Sanchez-Serrano Bueno se le considera "el padre" de la música no por el hecho de "haber inventado" la música, sino porque las condiciones que se dieron en su tiempo para el trabajo musical fueron únicas, en su beneficio, es el inicio de una etapa distinta en la música universal (occidente) Bach fue un gran desarrollador teórico, técnico y compositivo. Antes de él el sistema musical apenas se había consolidado, durante el renacimiento se consolidó el sistema musical, puesto que se sumó la sistematización de D'Arezzo con el trabajo de ritmo de De Vitry, y se extendieron a lo largo de Europa durante todo lo que consideramos renacimiento.

+Zombie Guitar De usar esos parametros el verdadero "Padre de la Musica" (Moderna Occidental) seria Vivaldi. No solo la mayor parte del credito de la invencion del concierto se le debe a el, sino que tambien su influencia fue igualmente grande en la creacion de la sinfonia, el trio de camara, y tantos otros generos. Su influencia sobre Bach, sobre una gran parte de sus contemporaneos, y sobre la musica Occidental, incluyendo nuevas formas de contrapunto y fuga ha quedado bien establecida (Pincherle, Kolneder, Talbot, etc.).

They're hard to see, but the mandolino does have tied gut frets. You can almost see them at 1:55, where they break over the upper edge of the fingerboard. Imagine trying to keep those from sliding around.

It sounds like it has frets. If it didn't its sound would be muffled, especially for a high pitched instrument with such a small belly.

In thelast 60s I used to have this concerto with "I Solisti di Zagreb" in a vinyl record that my mother sent me to Mexico, where I was studyng, from Venezuela. Since then I started loving the magnificent of Vivaldi's music. How great! here very well played. Awesome!

The thing I love most about this performance is the invisible man playing the silent piano.
As a mandolinist, it looks like the violins had a much harder time than the soloist! All that pizzicato with just the index finger, and holding the bow too! Nice to see so many Italians in the comments :) Ciao ragazzi! Ho vissuto a Bologna per alcuni anni. Una bellissima città.

For my brothers and sisters of the mandolin who are confused with all the strings on that little beastie: that's a Lombardic mandolin, not our now better known Neapolitan or "standard" mandolin. It's tuned g-b-e′-a′-d″-g″ with its lower G the same as ours. Mandolin pieces by Vivaldi were written for this style of mandolin, and they're actually easier to play on this style over the modern style. The scale length normally only goes up to f'', not quite an octave, but they occasionally may have a couple frets for the higher strings on the sound board, much like a lute. It had a fixed bridge, not a movable one. There is also a similar looking Genoese mandolin, tuned like a guitar an octave higher, and with a movable bridge.
Que alguien me explique por favor ¿por qué Vivaldi es tan subestimado por los musicólogos? Siempre hablan de Beethoveen, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Liszt... este y el otro como los referentes, y nunca se les escucha nada acerca de Vivaldi, ¿acaso no lo consideran un músico serio? para mí es lejos el padre de la música clásica y el mayor genio de este campo en la historia. Me entristece como recalcan a los demás mientras a Vivaldi apenas y lo podemos conocer por medio de unos pocos músicos que han rescatado su obra. Él no es un tonto detrás del telón, él es el dueño del show, más que genio, es un iluminado.

+Darnack Esto es muy cierto, pero está cambiando. La respuesta: ignorancia y el sentimiento de superioridad de los alemanes y los anglosajones...Pero hoy día se está revirtiendo el asunto. Le recomiendo la biografía de Vivaldi por el musicólogo inglés Michael Talbot (disponible en español) al igual que la del difunto musicólogo alemán Karl Heller. Saludos!

También Domenico Scarlatti era genial y nadie lo conoce, y como ese muchos mas, por otro lado Bach es de hecho el padre de la música

+Zombie Guitar Bach NO ES el Padre de la Musica. La Musica existe en el ser humano desde que es ser humano. Incluso existe en los animales, sobre todo en las aves, las cuales bailan al ritmo de la música. Y quién ha dicho que nadie conoce a Domenico Scarlatti? De hecho él ha sido siempre famoso (y por mucho tiempo más que Vivaldi, quien ha sido un re-descubrimiento desde los 1920s-30s, y sobre todo en los '50s). Pero Scarlatti, excelente como es, no es Vivaldi. Grande era el Padre de Domenico, Alessandro Scarlatti.

Ibis Sanchez-Serrano Bueno se le considera "el padre" de la música no por el hecho de "haber inventado" la música, sino porque las condiciones que se dieron en su tiempo para el trabajo musical fueron únicas, en su beneficio, es el inicio de una etapa distinta en la música universal (occidente) Bach fue un gran desarrollador teórico, técnico y compositivo. Antes de él el sistema musical apenas se había consolidado, durante el renacimiento se consolidó el sistema musical, puesto que se sumó la sistematización de D'Arezzo con el trabajo de ritmo de De Vitry, y se extendieron a lo largo de Europa durante todo lo que consideramos renacimiento.

+Zombie Guitar De usar esos parametros el verdadero "Padre de la Musica" (Moderna Occidental) seria Vivaldi. No solo la mayor parte del credito de la invencion del concierto se le debe a el, sino que tambien su influencia fue igualmente grande en la creacion de la sinfonia, el trio de camara, y tantos otros generos. Su influencia sobre Bach, sobre una gran parte de sus contemporaneos, y sobre la musica Occidental, incluyendo nuevas formas de contrapunto y fuga ha quedado bien establecida (Pincherle, Kolneder, Talbot, etc.).
Wow, this is seriously good, and quite surreal, so that '6' string mandolin has no frets either, talk about making it harder for yourself, well done, true respect.

They're hard to see, but the mandolino does have tied gut frets. You can almost see them at 1:55, where they break over the upper edge of the fingerboard. Imagine trying to keep those from sliding around.

It sounds like it has frets. If it didn't its sound would be muffled, especially for a high pitched instrument with such a small belly.
