Vitamin D reduces autoimmune disease

Come on government, change the out dated guidelines. John's text books, free downloads,

Vitamin D regulates a wide array of genes involved in inflammation and immunity,
inconsistently associated with reduced risk of several autoimmune diseases in observational studies
Active form of vitamin D regulates genes, inflammation, acquired and innate immune responses
Dietary marine derived long chain omega 3 fatty acids decrease systemic inflammation in some autoimmune diseases
Evidence is needed on whether omega 3 fatty acids lower the risk of developing autoimmune disease
Vitamin D and marine omega 3 fatty acid supplementation and incident autoimmune disease: VITAL randomized controlled trial
www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj-2...
To investigate whether vitamin D and marine derived long chain omega 3 fatty acids reduce autoimmune disease risk.
Vitamin D and omega 3 trial (VITAL), a nationwide (US), randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial
N = 25, 871
consisting of,
12, 786 men ≥50
13, 085 women ≥55
18,046 non- Hispanic white
5,106 black
2,152 as other racial and ethnic groups
Mean age was 67.1
INTERVENTIONS
Vitamin D (2000 IU/day) or placebo
Omega 3 fatty acids (1000 mg/day) or placebo
Participants self-reported all incident autoimmune diseases from baseline to a median of 5.3 years,
these diseases were confirmed by medical record review
In the vitamin D arm
Treatment group
123 developed an autoimmune disease
Placebo group
155 developed an autoimmune disease
Hazard ratio 0.78
P = 0.05
In the omega 3 fatty acids arm
Treatment group
130 developed an autoimmune disease
Placebo group
148 developed an autoimmune disease
P=0.19
CONCLUSIONS
Vitamin D supplementation for five years
with or without omega 3 fatty acids,
reduced autoimmune disease by 22%
Omega 3 fatty acid supplementation
with or without vitamin D,
reduced the autoimmune disease rate by 15%
(not statistically significant)
The clinical importance of this trial is high because these are well tolerated, non-toxic supplements,
and other effective treatments to reduce the incidence of autoimmune diseases are lacking
Autoimmune diseases
Rheumatoid arthritis
Polymyalgia rheumatica
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, too little thyroid hormone)
Psoriasis
Type 1 diabetes mellitus

As usual, interesting and beneficial. I started 7 years ago supplementing with vit D (10 000 Ul) a day and omega 3. Hoping doing this to stop arthritis which was my problem. At that time I had asthma since 1980 and high blood pressure since the age of fifty. After three years, these two pathologies vanished, and in addition I stopped having any cold or influenza-like illness, which I used to have during winter time. I am not vaccinated because I had an anaphylactic shock three years ago at the end of a surgical operation and nearly died. I got the Delta variant end of December 2021 and the omicron BA2 mid February, each time in a mild form. My age : 80 years and in very good shape, (until now). My case goes along with your point.

The ear infections I regularly got since childhood stopped. The common colds I regularly had almost stopped- at this point it's been at least 7 years since my last cold. And despite being an 'essential worker' and having to come into work multiple days a week and having to see different people in multiple offices (in IT), out of the up to 14 people in my work team, only one other person and I have NOT had Covid despite being around the others regularly. As a retired marine engineer I have always been trained and worked to the mantra that prevention is better than cure. Therefore our maintainence was always preventative for instance, changing oils and filters within a certain running time. This meant that sea time was keep to a maximum as there was little break down maintenance caused by lack of maintenance. The same principle can be applied to many scenarios in life, such as the human body.

My Dad's doctor put him on a higher dose of vitamin D3 back in the 1990s when Dad developed SAD (seasonal affective disorder -- in short, Dad began to suffer depression in winter when he got older). Being a caring dad, he urged me to start taking it while I was still young. Dad died last year at the age of 82, may he rest in peace. I've been taking vitamin D3 since he advised it, with my doctor's approval. I've actually had to change doctors a number of times due to moving long distance periodically, but each doctor has approved it. As I've aged, my current doctor and specialists really emphasize my continuing to take vitamin D3 supplements. I've never developed SAD or any autoimmune disease, and my immunity has overall been pretty good. As for fish oil, I was taking it until about 10 years ago, recommended for cardiovascular health. However, when I learned about the harvesting practices, not only the impact on the environment, but also including forced labor by shanghaied sailors (mostly from the Philippines), I stopped taking it. I heartily agree that it would be highly beneficial to farm the "seaweed" to produce the oil. By the way, if anyone would like to learn more about global advocacy for mariners, there is a Maritime organization that makes the issues known. I was a member back when I was working as a cook on American ships within US waters. We should be concerned for sailors because 90% of everything we use everyday comes to us via waterways, on ships. Either the whole finished product or components have been transported on the waterways.

Yes, Vitamin D has been helping me. I had a bad case of guillain-barré syndrome and was totally paralyzed for a few months in 2006. Very slow to recover over the years, still using a power chair but now it is residual from GBS and old age related osteoporosis and other issues that makes it difficult to get around. Since I have increased my intake of Vitamin D during the pandemic, I have noticed the numbness in my hands and feet is going away. 🙂Thank you Dr. John for all your many interesting videos and your continued valuable information. You are a wonderful man to give of your time freely every day. I'm trying to watch your past videos as well. You're a very good teacher. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Hugs!

Fasting can help with your issues, if you are able to do it. Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: Fribrosis is reversed The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers over time with extended fasting and rise from dieting Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. Is fasting just the same as caloric restriction? No! Dieting increases the hunger hormone ghrelin while fasting decreases it and has many other health benefits! kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYqgj9CinMu9fMY.html What breaks a fast? kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZWGrtV8oNvfY9I.html When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle! kzread.info/dash/bejne/mH6JpteccrrcZNY.html Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJl3wcmCgpXAYZc.html The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJplzNmGktm0qNo.html Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4aBmqmLqtaveco.html Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Fasting reverses metabolic syndrome, which is tightly correlated to Chronic Fatiguque Syndrome, high blood pressurecancer and many other chronic diseases. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. As someone who developed MS over 20 years ago, I can tell you what Dr Campbell says is almost certainly true. I began Copaxone disease modifying therapy in 2007 - 2 years after being diagnosed - yet I noticed a BIGGER improvement when I began taking vitamin D3 by my own choice. In the end my specialist ADMITTED it HAD helped me. I also take fish oil supplements and consume oily fish regularly. I stopped taking my MS injections around 3 years ago and have felt better since doing so, though that isn't an automatic recommendation.

Apologies I don't have a link - it was only briefly 'advertised' but the follow-up review of the Harvard Study on Vitamin D and cancer found that taking Vitamin D (off the top of my head, can't remember, but it's 2000 or 4000 IU p.d) substantially reduced death from metastatic cancer. The initial trial analysis found no difference in cancer rates. Subsequently, at a later assessment of clinical participants they found fewer cancer deaths amongst the Vitamin D cohort. Perhaps you are aware of it, but if not, I'm sure your followers would appreciate a review of the trial. Many thanks for your valuable work Dr John.

I learned about optimal levels so increased my levels safely from 47 nmol/l to 180 nmol/ and all my symptoms disappeared. On the back of my recovery I gained a degree in Chinese Medicine and now specialise in treating women with Fibromyalgia and CFS. Optimising levels of vitamin D is always part of my tool kit. See Dr Shawn Baker video interviews (She Left Her Doctor Speechless...). You'll see a whole community of people doing Carnivor, Lion Diet and getting over things Doctors told them were life long and even leading to being in a wheelchair or dying from it. Autoimmune Diseases (long covid symptoms look like this... see FLCCC Alliance for protocols/Drs/info... and Dr Peter McCullough). Dr Anthony Chaffe also good. MyLowCarbLife interview with Dr Elizabeth Bright and many other vids great. She's realized 80% fat to a 20% protein has really helped her and many people she councils. If the FDA (FOOD and funded by DRUG) companies recommends it on a food pyramid you know it 'has to be great for you'! 70% of their budget comes from funding from Big Phar. Just like Medical Schools. It's not about helping you. Dr Chaffe has a great video about how a high carbon atmosphere actually helps plants grow bigger and produce more. You can see this by the nutrients farmers add. Dr Chaffe goes by written history, evidence. In the USA bison, etc would roam all over the USA dropping nutrients and the gras and plants were very healthy. When they killed the grazing animals the Dust Bowl came. In Egypt they took a machine and looked under the Sphinx and there are plants under there. The desert used to be a forest. They are known as the Bread Basket. Again, GRAINS. Carbohydrates. Too much to talk about. You'll see the evidence. Check out Tony Heller for great info, too. If they're pushing it on you it's not for your health. That should be obvious after the last 3 years. I have an Autoimmune Disease, went Lion Diet and taking 10,000 vit D3 100 mcg K2/K7....Dr Berg 200 vids on D3 and myths of taking too much and where they came from. We'll see when I get 25-hydroxy vitamin D bloodwork test done at a private lab like we have in USA. Doctors are monsters. They'll keep you sick and buying drugs. See documentary on Burzynski Cancer and you'll see the same 'EF DEE AYE' pushing Safe and Effective was there trying to destroy. Can't have an inexpensive thing standing in the way of Safe and Effective either...that's why they demonized it. FLCCC Alliance, Dr Peter McCullough protocols, info, list of Docs crucial. Oct 2022 they wargamed AGAIN a pandemic. Just like they did in 2019. These people don't like you. Eat meat. Get strong. Live.

So, DPM, how did you pass the Covid19 ? Did you get vaccinated, or did you drop it like many of us? I went on Vitamin D3, not much, but 800 IU per day. And just as vaccines do not protect against getting infected (they protect against getting severely sick, and protect against even getting any symptoms at all) - so did Vitamin D3 not protect me against being infected - but the Covid19 which I had, was mild. The things passed to us by Drbeen Medical Lectures - kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3ahyZluaKbNlNI.html as an example - are food for thought.

My son and his wife stayed with me for six weeks waiting on their house to close. Two weeks into their stay my son tested positive for Covid and one week later his wife tested positive. I never even had the sniffles. At the time I'd had two Covid shots but not the booster shot. It is my belief that taking a vitamin D supplement daily saved me because my age, weight, and diabetes certainly couldn't have helped.

David Attenborough is an athirst, which defies logic. It should be obvious to all that the wonderful design complexity of all living things has a Creator. It doesn't matter how many billions of years they imagine, since the Creation, there is no way the THEORY of Evolution can explain them away. It fact, all matter breaks down over time (the 2nd law of thermodynamics). Even humans, every generation has about 200 extra errors in our gene sequences, on average. So don't just accept what self righteous scientific people say about THEORIES, even David Attenborough. They are just following the THEORIES of deluded forebares, like Darwin. 🙄

@@pebble100c There actually is some scientific evidence that Vitamin B plays a role in Psoriasis most of these studies are freaking old though. But there are some interviews from modern medical doctors who speak about it as legit treatment option in psoriasis but no modern studies. I looked a bit more into it and there are multiple different reasons why vitamin b plays a big role in anti inflammatory processes and psoriasis is about inflammation mainly. My academic nutrional friend told me that it is nearly impossible to risk a vitamin B overdose anyway. So I think we have good reasons to keep substituting that stuff in relatively high doses. :D

A lot of things that factor in are individual biology and availability of any particular source, also the purity and efficacy play a huge role for anything that is taken in. The initial inquiry was what were my top ten and I answered based from my personal experiences with the different things that I have utilized. I have Secondary Progressive MS but started as RRMS. From 2003 to 2017, I was getting attacks every 18 to 24 months with debilitating effects. No recovery after each attacks. At one point early on my Vit D level was at 9ng/mL in 2010. It’s now at 107ng/mL. I’ve backed off by 2000 IU per day so hope to get my level down to the 85-90ng/mL soon. I was taking 13,000 IU of Vit D per day. Now 11,000 IU per day. I started taking Tecfidera with 1/4 tab of baby chewable aspirin almost 5 years ago and my attacks almost stopped. Back then I also started taking more Vitamin D, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc, Iron, and in the past few years, K2. I just added Fish Oil to my regime. I also take Choline and Ashwagandha. And some amino acids like NAC, L-Leucine, and Acetyl L-Carnitine, plus probiotics. In July 2019, I started Keto Diet and initially lost 40 pounds in first 6 months (25 pounds off permanently since then) but kept sugar out of my diet and reduced my carbs to around 30-50mg per day. No processed junk foods anymore. I haven’t had a significant attack in almost 6 years. Although, my MS disabilities from previous attacks have remained, I haven’t gotten significantly worse. I’m bad enough as it is. Any further progression of my MS would be a striking blow as I’m almost 50 years old now. Getting the processed foods and sugar out of my diet has made a big difference I feel. I hope this helps in some sort of way.

Sorry to hear you have MS, my Mrs was diagnosed a year ago at 42, it came on out of nowhere, we were having a usual evening walk and she suddenly said her legs were heavy, the next days it progressed like she was walking drunk. She also had the usual bladder issues up every hour in the night feeling like she needed to empty her bladder but couldn't and hers eyes were bad. I said at the time seems like all the symptoms for MS. Was sent for an mri and said 100 percent it is. They tried the usual short course of heavy steroids which made her feel shocking and put on some water. I said to up vitamin D and keep it up along with turmeric, fish oil. She also is on the Tec. Then around October, November suddenly she noticed she was walking okay, as if by magic. She had just had all the recent bloods done to make sure she is okay on the Tec and everything came back perfect, blood pressure spot on etc and we are out walking again in the evenings. Her legs and arms do tire more easily after a while than before but currently you would never think anything was wrong at all. Completely different to last year where she was bouncing off walls and using a stick. One thing that was a game changer was she getting frequent utis from the bladder not emptying fully, so they just get giving course after course of antibiotics. I said try high dose capsules of cranberry daily, was so many people saying they were not getting infections any more so was worth giving it a shot. Guess what, she has not had one infection since. A lot shrug that off as a myth, but from what I have read into it helps prevent bacteria stick to the sides of tract. Can't be a coincidence. I wish you all the best for the future.

One thing his preliminary blood tests picked up was a below average vitamin D level for the area he lived in, so he was prescribed a short course of 50,000U weekly supplements to boost him. The Orkney Islands MS study was also very interesting, but unfortunately it wasn't able to prove a conclusive link between vit D levels in that population and the incidence rate of MS. Thank you John. The Omega 3 oils subject needs more research. I took fish oil capsules to help heal my AstraZeneca gene editing injectable poison brain injury, and I found research presented that showed that they work better when vitamin B levels are higher, and therefore optimised in the person. I took vitamin B as well, and found that I have improved over the last three months. This was enhanced with having optimised my vitamin D and zinc levels prior to starting them, and I took Glutathione also. During summer, I soaked up the afternoon infrared sunlight and felt much better. Now it's approaching winter in Melbourne, and I miss the sun. It was good to soothe the Covid long haulers' skin itch and dermatitis. It seems that nutriceuticals work better with other nutriceutical agents. I have a very low sugar intake, and relatively low carbohydrate consumption too, in order to reduce inflammation. I prefer to eat less processed food, and I only use olive oil, butter, lard or beef dripping to cook with as they're stable fats, and proven to be of benefit over many generations. Diet and health is quite complex, but very much worth the research as though our lives depend on it... because they do.

I was taking an MS med until the start of the pandemic when I had to stop because my CD4 T-cells were too low. Nothing but Vitamin D3 since then, and still symptom-free. Pre-vaccines Covid infection was pretty mild. So I highly recommend both vaccination and high-dose Vitamin D3. It would have been very interesting if this study had a moderate-dose and high-dose arm, to see if there was a dose-response curve.

fasting, red light, collagen, glycine, probiotics. All of these will help, and fasting also raises D levels. Interesting case study and question - a few years back a pet dog of mine that I adopted from an animal shelter developed Addison's disease (hypo adreno cortism) and died from it. Extensive follow up research and analysis revealed that the underlying trigger was the animal shelter had over vaccinated him with up to 15 vaccines per year over several years, and this stress on the immune system depleted his adrenal glands resulting in the fatal auto immune syndrome. My question is whether a similar thing could also happen in humans if they are over vaccinated or for that matter exposed too frequently to any antigens? What would the limiting position be, how can one prevent, monitor and treat such syndromes?

There are already various research articles by virologists - who are deeply concerned about resorting to using additional vaccinations or boosters to treat what has evolved into never ending waves of new COVID variants ... something I have never heard about in our history of dealing with contagious viruses. These researchers fear that our immune systems being constantly inflamed and stimulated by vaccine antibodies that they will soon begin to 'ignore' those triggers - or - so irritate and inflame our immune systems ... that we develop auto immune illnesses. One German virologist very recently posted a video with him passionately concerned about how the failure of our current vaccines to STOP THE SPREAD of COVID - which American health agencies rarely mention publicly - has led to the constant mutation of the COVID viruses. These potentially dangerous mutations that in the early days of COVID - were being blamed on unvaccinated people continuing to spread COVID which would lead to more mutations due to a contagious virus's inherent drive to override existing antibodies and barriers - to create variants so it could continue to spread. TURNS OUT ... that it is the flaw in our existing vaccines that allows this virus to repeatedly infect vaccinated people - since the vaccine's neutralizing antibodies do NOT exist in our upper airways where it first infects our bodies ...allowing the virus to replicate unimpeded .. until it begins to reach our lower respiratory systems, when those neutralizing antibodies from vaccines or previous infections - are active and they then attack the virus ... the reason why vaccinated people get infected but then only develop mild illness are due to the active antibodies in our "lower respiratory system". BUT AS LONG AS VACCINATED PEOPLE can get infected and then spread the virus ... we will continue to have waves of new mutated variants. The really scary part, is the chance of one of the future variants evolving into a form of COVID that could evade enough of our existing COVID antibodies while also evolving into a more deadly mutation ... something that has been quietly mentioned - but only in a small, quiet voice, and not so loud that people start asking the "tough questions" about how this could have been avoided by developing different treatments or vaccines - that could have stopped the never ending waves of variants - before it evolves into something more deadly - and contagious..

Humans are meant to be exposed to actremdous amount of antigens by living in nature. Hunter-gatherers more often have parasites than not, get microscopic particles from feces, urine, and spoilt foods in their mouths all the time. They don’t have any signs of autoimmune disease. It’s not the antigens. It’s the lack of exposure, and then SUDDEN high exposure WITH ADJUVANTS (!!!) such as found in vaccines, in a state of T helper cell imbalance, and in a state of immune insufficiency due to zinc, vitamin D, vitamin A, or any other immune-related nutrient which can lead to your immune system to make a mistake and start producing autoimmune antibodies.

It needs to be stressed that D has to convert to its final, hormonal form in order to get into the cells. Those steps occur in the liver and the kidneys, so it's important that liver and kidney function are good. The reason that it might work is that D sits on the Inter lueken 2 receptor site, which controls auto-immune activity.

To lessen the pain I found cutting out wheat and gluten helped enormously. Also any of the deadly nightshade family, red meat and alcohol should be avoided. Being a potato head, carnivore drinker obviously didn’t help me, but I did cut down. I used to wear a tens machine and adhesive heat pads which helped a lot. Endo lowered my immunity as I catch any bug doing the rounds. As I’m a full time carer for 2 family members, since covid I’ve self isolated throughout so not to catch and continue to care for them. Pre-menopause, I would have only a few days a month pain free; I hated it as it made such an impact upon my life. I even went through the menopause without HRT being petrified of menstruating again. My GP was rubbish, and I’ve sought information privately and about to start HRT for the first time. Love all of Dr. Campbells videos. Especially this one. Because I can relate to this video. Its interesting because I have an autoimmune disorder (started when I was 32) and ever since then my Vitamin D levels been low.
