Vita Caroli (Life of Charles) Medieval Bohemian Knight Style Song
A Czech song about celebrating Karel the 4th who was the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor from 1346 - 1378. He is famous for being king during the Czech golden age and building the Karel Bridge and Karel University
Palenik, Patriotic songs and anthems for learning and entertainment purposes
- Lyrics -
It 's half a day to get there, yeah, we' re walking
A bartender's wine and a piece of meat to everyone
So into full jugs, that 's not the case
and on what shall we drink? on the Life of Charles , Hey
The joy of the father of the homeland does not only include music
Nevertheless, I drag everything to play in Karlštejn
Let our feet serve us, our heads do not hurt
When I sing there
on the Life of Charles
hey ho hey me
hey ho hey me
I'm a wandering juggler, a vagrant who's a bic
everyone, but I screams seriously from their lungs
That's when God's judgments no longer hurts
let's feast and drink on the Life of Charles
hey ho hey me
hey ho hey me
To the horse market it take it, over the new bridge
You will find us drinking wine there, singing for fun
Although at first it may seem bitter
let’s praise him and drink on the Life of Charles
hey ho hey me
hey ho hey me
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Koňmo je to půlden, jó, my pěšky jdem
Šenkýřko vino a kus maso všem
Tak do plnejch džbánů, at’ to tak neboli
a na co si dáme? na Vita Caroli, Hej
K slastem otec vlasti nepatři hudba jen
Přesto všechno táhnem hrát na Karlštejn
At’ nám nohy slouží, hlava nebolí
Až tam budem zpívat
o Vita Caroli
hej ho hej ja
hej ho hej ja
jsem potulnej kejklíř, vagant, kdo je bic
každaj, ale já řvu vážně z plnejch plic
Že když už ž božích soudů hlava nebolí
hodujme a pijme na Vita Caroli
hej ho hej ja
hej ho hej ja
Přes koňskej trh vem to, na ten novej most
Najdeš nás tam víno pít, zpívat pro radost
Ač zprvu trpké zdát se může jakkoli
chvalme ho a pijme na Vita Caroli
hej ho hej ja
hej ho hej ja

Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, had a long and successful reign. The Empire he ruled from Prague expanded, and his subjects lived in peace and prosperity. When he died, the whole Empire mourned. More than 7,000 people accompanied him on his last procession. The heir to the throne of the flourishing Empire was Charles' son, Wenceslas IV, whose father had prepared him for this moment all his life. But Wenceslas did not take after his father. He neglected affairs of state for more frivolous pursuits. He even failed to turn up for his own coronation as Emperor, which did little to endear him to the Pope. Wenceslas "the Idle" did not impress the Imperial nobility either. His difficulties mounted until the nobles, exasperated by the inaction of their ruler, turned for help to his half-brother, King Sigismund of Hungary. Sigismund decided on a radical solution. He kidnapped the King to force him to abdicate, then took advantage of the ensuing disorder to gain greater power for himself. He invaded Bohemia with a massive army and began pillaging the territories of the King's allies.

@@theEWDSDSso easy to call him a traitor, but the whole situation actually wasn’t so black and white.. he was firstly a Hungarian king and the problems with his brother were only secondary (to him at least). Of course he kinda invaded Bohemian lands but What was he supposed to do? Not even the situation in Hungary at the time was flowers and rainbows and even if it was, why should they help a neighboring country with as different culture as the day and night.. Sure Sigismund wasn’t nice but I think that he at least tried to take care of his brother's responsibilities as good as he possibly could without losing the Hungarian crown in order to keep Bohemia in their hands. Also the pope schizma didn’t help his case as well. The dude got really unfortunate times to be a king in..

@@holextv5595Pretty sure that grapevine was everywhere where church and holy orders were. I don't know how it looked like in Bohemia but in Poland there are sources mentioning order of st. Johan wich got village Zagost from a prince and made grape plantation there in XII c. I think we can be sure that after christanization of Dux and implementing church organisation grapevine was always coming along.
