@@Em-fw5lf i'm sorry you weren't able to continue with archaelogy-- it sucks that higher education is so expensive. if you managed to get those higher expensive degrees, do you think you would've been able to stay in that field? also do you think spanish medieval literature as opposed to spanish cultural studies or linguistics or something is significant, or does it lead to the same thing? like is the medieval literature part just a fun extra thing for you or is it specifically useful? just curious; i'm in university and i'm going to major (or maybe minor) in spanish, but i'm not sure what track i'm going to take with it. i really like modern latin american literature and iberian history/politics, and those don't really go together, but oh well. (sorry if this is weird, i'm just really curious since my interests are really similar... no pressure but if you wanted to you could email me at onlythesun321@gmail.com, just cause this feels like a weird conversation to have in a youtube comment section lol)

@lloydbautista2055

Standard form of execution for peasants in the middle ages was hanging. Only nobles got to be decapitated because it was seen as a more honorable form of execution since it allowed for the person die in a state of prayer (on their knees). An especially honorable execution would be decapitation by sword rather than axe (since swords were seen as inherently noble weapons).

@lloydbautista2055

@@raspberrycrowns9494 From a modern perspective you would think, but no. People actually used to take this very seriously. As an example: in the early 16th century the Portuguese admiral Afonso de Albuquerque executed one of his nobles by hanging for disobeying orders, and it caused a massive mutiny across nearly every ship in the fleet. The crew weren't upset that he had been executed, rather they were upset because they considered the execution of a noble by means of hanging instead of decapitation to be tyrannical. Indeed, Afonso likely chose to hang him specifically because it was the less honorable method.
