We have clay rich soil which doesn't drain out water when it rains heavily in our coconut farm. Manually we were removing water. Then I added Gypsum, red soil and organic manure mostly horse gram plants manure. After a month I am seeing good results now. Water drains away.

I've heard it helps IF the soil actually needs gypsum. It will help the mycorrhizal organisms get the air the need. It can also loosen up the soil so worms can move through it. Keep in mind if your soil does not need gypsum (get a soil test) it won't do any good and can actually hurt.

I know it lets clay come together and allows water flow to seep through. Though is this for making clay or is this for plants. I tried laundry detergent dont think it worked and i heard of dish soap. Not sure if this will be ok to do for getting the clay. Excellent video by the way. I guess im asking if this method can be used for getting out clay from samples dug up? Thanks

No. Large amounts of gypsum must be tilled deeply into a soil volume to have a flocculating effect.

So, what can I do with my fescue lawn grass growing in a layer of topsoil that is sitting on top of solid clay dirt underneath? How do I flocculate that clay underneath the topsoil and grass?

So after the clay has flocculated, it is the air, water, etc between the larger aggregates that keep it from compacting into a tighter mass?

I appreciate the scientific explanation of the flocculation v. dispersion aspect by Dr. Walworth but actually it can be misinterpreted. By addressing flocculation of sodic soil with gypsum as the "silver bullet" he used a demonstration of 1:1 volume to volume gypsum to soil to accomplish the flocculation and with distilled water, no less. This is impossible in a real world agronomic situation, either in agriculture or, especially, with topically applied gypsum for ornamental landscape soil management. I absolutely agree that calcium is the element to use in providing the solution for flocculating sodic soil, but there are much better calcium sources than gypsum.

wouldn't you poke holes in your pond with gypsum? Turbidity do to rain run off into pond... you can create a swale outside of pond to slow and settle water before it enters pond

i tried flocculation process using Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate (SHMP). It did work and all the soil(soil - bentoniteClay) particles setled down. But now i need to know how much amount of SHMP i should use for 1 Metric Ton of soil (soil - bentoniteClay). Hope my comment makes sense! and if anyone knows please help me out with this.

Maybe not a good idea because it will also release a lot of phosphate in any runoff. It might cause eutrophication in any adjacent ponds. and lakes.
