I fell in love with Visual Novels with ''The House in Fata Morgana'', a masterpiece.

Oh man, Subahibi will give you a wild journey. It's really special and everybody who isn't too sensible has to try it to have a proper opinion. Cyanotype is a interesting choice, the quality of writing isn't one of a VN, it's more like it was a book. And CGs are beautiful ! My favorite here is by far The House in Fata Morgana. Amazing VN. It has the best soundtrack of the genre by far imo (sorry Utawa, umineko and all the others), is so unique visually and the story is even more unique. I'm not the biggest fan ok Key anime but I've never tried these VNs. As for sci;adv I didn't play head but Chaos;Child is easily one of my favorite VN. I prefer it over Steins;Gate

That's what I've been hearing! Given how everyone has talked about it in, curiosity is only rising. The art style for Cyanotype is what drew me in intially. Then reading the synopsis, and with you commenting on it's writing style, I'm even more intrigued! Really excited for the Fata Morgana too, the art is so different from the ordinary anime-style that brings interest towards the style of writing as well. The only one I can give input on adpatation wise is Kanon. From the community it seems the adaptations range from decent to underwhelming, except for Kanon and Clannad which are see on par, if not a slight bit lower than their source material. You might like the VNs if you give them a try. Steins; Gate is the only entry I have knowledge of so seeing how they are connected and the tone/style it takes is going to be interesting!

Lots of great choices, I can of course, vouch for the quality hitters like Tsukihime Remake and the Key library, but I am incredibly, incredibly excited to see you delve into Ef! Ef is a very under-appreciated gem IMO, it's not the perfect story but it's a story that isn't afraid to divert itself from the regular VN formula and tell a story with an incredibly powerful message. I really hope you enjoy it!

I will 100%! Their style of stories is really gripping, and am curious in seeing how they grow over time. For reflection blue I was thinking of just buying it off of DLsite then using the fan patch until the official one comes out.

Always happy to see interest for Cyanotype Daydream, I feel like the controversy about the lack of H-scenes and the initially lackluster quality of the localization (it was riddled with typos, proofreading didn't seem to be a thing...) really hurt its appeal to the English playerbase even though it has plenty of potential to reach wider audiences with its premise and how beautifully executed it is. Hope you'll end up enjoying Yonagi's story if you don't stray too much from your planning :')

It's always sad to hear when acclaimed works' quality and fanbase are potentially diminished due to errors like that. Chaos; Head Noah had similar controversy until it was patched by fans. Glad to hear it's in a good state now! Did it get fixed in the official version or is there a fan patch that fixes those errors? The more I hear about the more excited I am to get to it!

Summer Pockets Reflection Blue is what I’m reading right now, and it is currently my new favorite key vn. Oddly enough, I wouldn’t say its as strong of a story as Clannad or Little Busters, but I enjoyed the nostalgic themes and heroines so much more. If you find the time, it’s definitely something I’d recommend reading through the summer. There’s also an anime adaption in the works so that’s something to look forward to!

From what I've seen, everyone has their own personal favorite from Key which makes me pretty excited to get to them all. Right now Clannad is probably my favorite, with Air close behind. It would be really fitting to read Summer Pockets over the summer, so hopefully I'll get to it! Really hope that it's a great adaptation, would love to see more people get into Key's stuff that way!

Got some cool titles there for the future especially subahibi, I would like to start Clannad as well, loved the anime years back and forgot a lot of it like you lol. I read my first minori novel a while ago - eden* I really enjoyed it and it wasn't too long of a read. Loved the amount of cg's there were and the story was beautiful. Also I like your voice and commentary on vns so keep making more vids!

Oh yeah, this year is stacked haha! When you get the chance i can't recommend the Clannad VN enough (even though I'm not even half way done). With how it lays out the Main character, it's pretty chill and can get pretty emotional early on. Eden sound pretty interesting too! From what little I've seen, Minori does seem to put a lot of care into visuals and presentation. Really looking forward to looking into some more of their stuff! Thank you so much, I hope you will continue to enjoy them!

I have been meaning to read Clannad for so long, that if Clannad was a person, it would seem I have a grudge against him/her/it. If you want to read Key titles, then Little Busters might stand above all others. Rewrite is my favorite and the scope/ambition of Summer Pockets is pure insanity, but Little Busters is probably the best key title, the one that can actually compete for best VN ever.

  • @NeNeiSan

I can be the same way, haha. It's always best to be in the right mood and not force yourself so you can enjoy it to its upmost, especially since Clannad is on the longer side. It's good to see that pretty much all of Key's works have their respective strengths that could all be deemed as favorites. Can't wait to get to them all!

I personally think clannad is the best vn key has published. I've read most of key's big works and it hasn't changed at all. I think the weaker ones were their first two and the second best would be little Busters. I think the character archetypes seemed much more anime esque to little Busters that I didn't quite connect with the characters all that well. Compared to clannad with characters that break from their archetypes and expand in after story. Little Busters is still really good tho

I also went into Subahibi blind (exposed to nothing but the reviews) and it was wild. Sadly an experience not many people can have with Subahibi due to certain things just being well known in the vn community. I think your experience may be something special. There's barely anything else like it. Not my favorite vn though, that goes to Chaos;Child. Really hope you enjoy Chaos;Child during your Sci;Adv playthrough cause it's amazing. Chaos;Head Noah is also really good though weaker in my opinion.

My goal in 2022 was to read Little Busters in japanese and I'm still slowly going through the last true route... I can only recommend reading subahibi but it's a tough read. Thanks, I'm sure I will! Seeing Ryukishi stray from the thrilling horror is known for sound really intriguing, even more so since it seems to have good reception. I see what you mean with Key. From what I've read so far, they follow a formula, but it's one that works really well in my opinion. Good luck with your Little Busters read! It must tough if your in the process of learning, but it will be satisfying in the end! I would like to be able to read a VN in japanese in the coming years as well.
