Leave Trini since the late 80s and I can still remember that smell on Beetham Estates, partly responsible are enterprises like CGA aka coconut growers association, Fernandes Distillers, Landfill etc. I never live there but pass through many times. Listening to these young men brought back memories, when I use to utter the same things, "the government is the problem". Until I came to the realization that there is no progress without change. Initiate change, move, protest, or some other form of proactivity. Anyhow Chris do yuh thing. Bless up.

You remember they would burn the garbage in the evening and the smoke traveled for miles along with the stink,it reached as far west as St James and east to San Juan ,all depend on how the wind blew that day..

They get education free at all levels. They should try to rise in a different way. They need to get into politics instead of just talking. When the other government party wins, they don't care about them, just their own people. We need another Eric Williams to change Trinidad again like he did when I was a child. We had a lot of ambition then. Things just changed again in the last 30 years. Our youth then had a different attitude. They keep blaming the government. I wonder how many of them are pursuing the free education that is available to get them qualified to either move out of the area, leave the country or get highly qualified to get a good job. Just my opinion because I am from a different era. That place used to be cardboard boxes and tin pan houses when I was a chikd. The same government transformed it. There are lots of immigrants who came to live there in the early days. That is where economics come in. I would adopt any of those children if adoption was an easy affair.

Betham Gardens were called Shanty Town back in my days growing up,it was mostly people that came from Grenada,St Lucia,St Vincent that lived in small wooden homes with no running water,it was poverty you won't believe..The garbage dump was opposite across from the Betham Hyway,by the mangrove...They would wait for the garbage trucks to dump and would go through the garbage salvaging anything they could use or sell...It was not a dangerous place and no one took drugs back then,they were just poor people trying to survive...
