Visiting Bognor Regis

We spent six days in Bognor Regis visiting many of its beaches, parks, gardens and other attractions as well as taking a ride along the promenade.
If you are planning a visit hopefully this video will help you plan your stay and give you a little bit of the history of this historical sea side resort in West Sussex.

Just came across your video on Bognor and it was the best one I found. Thankyou. I have been to Pagham years ago and thought I might visit Bognor as it is smaller than Bournemouth and Brighton and I like the sea. The town looks fine. Not much different to many other English towns and at least half of the shops weren't boarded up like other places. I have definitely seen far worse in my time.

Thanks C B, glad you liked it. We enjoyed our stay at Bognor, it's typical in many ways of other British seaside resorts but better than most and not as run down as some. I know several people have left negative comments about the town but I think most are from people that live or have lived there which is a valid but different perspective from those visiting. Hope you enjoy your trip if you do decide to go. Dave

We stayed with friends who live in Bognor loved it. Did you know that when u were riding on that promenade one of the houses has a very large metal sculpture of a head. That sculpture behind that home was of Freddie Mercury’s girlfriend & was where she lived at some point

If it is visible from the prom then I think I vaguely remember seeing that ! But either way, that's a really interesting piece of trivia. Thanks for sharing.

Actually located on the arse end of the south coast. Looks like it too. And also one of the biggest gateways for county lines drug dealing. Speaking of drugs, if you like thet sort of thing, then go to Hotham Park. There's a place called 'The Secret Gardens' where you can go and happily toke away without police interference. Hotham is also good for constant grafittii. If you want to help the homeless, then look in the bushes towards the back of Hotham park by Edward Brynt Primary School, there's basically a tramp city there, again, uninterupted by the police and, again, drugs such as cocaine or speed can be bought and sold there; so an opportunity to make yourself a little pocket money. The other park worth mentioning is West Park. They have many fun days there for young children. Parents can bring their kids there and have them approached by random adults who will ask the kids to go with them. True story. There is also a brand new water 'park'. An tiny, open air space where a few holes in the ground dribble out water. Again, some locals like to go there to watch kids. One was recently caught having a hand shandy whilst the children played. True story. If you want nightlife, there's a local Kebab shop that got busted for putting roofies in their meat, there's also the overpriced burger shop by the arcade if you haven't spent all your cash on overpriced drinks and underwhelming entertainment in the pubs. Some of which, people have been murdered in. If you're the sort of person that enjoys mingling with the locals, then just go down the street passed most of the pubs at night and any drunk old lush and their mates will have a go at you as you walk past. During the day, if you're light on cash, there are a thousand different cash points that will swallow your cards for free. That doesn't matter though because you can quite easily nick what you want from any of the low-rent pound shops or the 400 charity shops in the main street and, again, all without police interruption. If you do happen to see any of our local law enforcement walking around, well done. You can mark that off your 'Bognor Bingo Card'. Parking isn't an issue in Bognor, just do what other visitors and locals do and park wherever you'd like. Just look out crossing the road as most of them don't even know what a one-way street is. When travelling in Bognor, please be aware that, although Aldwick IS actually part of Bognor, if you stray into this territory, you must appease them by saying how nice their part of Chichester is. If you don't do this, they will look at you with a raised eyebrow and close their privately owned streets to you.

Absolute 💯 I wish I could actually encounter ppl like yourselves in everyday Bognor populous. There's this odd delusion about it being a safe or upbeat place. I think everyone's still riding off the Billy Butlins days, It's so odd to me to be in that much denial about what actually happens here. Really surreal. I wish there was a way to get a sense of community for the area without it being Tourist Board sanctioned. At least the ppl involved with sketchy behaviour and desperation have a community I guess?

I don’t why some people hate were they live nothing wrong with Bognor I live it quite never had any problems I have lived in south London for little bit had loads of trouble there. The people that say Bognor is not nice are just unhappy people who live a miserable existence.

I've lived in South London too, I've lived in Bognor for much of my life. Gotta say i beg to differ. I think it depends on what circles you move in and what you get exposed to during the everyday. I think a lot of why ppl get pìssed off is because we know it has the potential to be a far greater place than it is, And that we've seen decades upon decades of neglect and under investment. So as cynical as I am about the realities of the area, I'd consider myself an optimist at heart.

I find it remarkable that a travel writer does not know (or bothered to find out) that Euston and Marylebone serve the north west of the UK from London, Oxford, Birmingham, Manchester etc. and certainly not the south! Warning - if travelling by public transport, don't ask directions from this man! No doubt it is possible to get to Bognor Regis via Manchester, but it is a very long ride, with changes.

Those chips don't look very nice. They appear a bit on the greasy side and not as good as have had elsewhere. What is it with chips down south as they never appear to be appetising and seem to be dripping in grease. Used to my chips being crisp and live in an area where orange chips are the to go for.

  • @DTSquared
