Visit MDINA in Malta: the Real-life King's Landing - A Game of Thrones Adventure!

Join us on our continuing adventures in Malta! This time, we’re exploring the “Silent City”, Mdina.
Welcome to Mdina, Malta - the enchanting medieval city that's straight out of a fairy tale! Cobblestone streets, towering bastions, and ancient walls - it’s got it all. Get ready to immerse yourself in the rich history and timeless charm of Mdina, where every corner tells a story.
First, we caught the 202 bus from Sliema to Mdina. Goodness what an experience…! The roads are hectic and bumpy, and the bus door stopped working and the passengers had to keep pulling it open and shut as each stop. Don’t even get me started on the long phone conversations the driver kept having!! Anyway, 1 hour and 25mins later we arrived in one piece.
We entered through the city gate. Game of Thrones fans, rejoice! Mdina served as a filming location for the iconic series, adding an extra layer of excitement to our adventure. We uncover the real-life King's Landing and avoid a horse traffic jam.
We visit Mdina Metropolitan Cathedral and Museum. A stunning place and really interesting too. The vaults were a nice shelter from the heat!
Lunchtime! The lovely Andrew from our hotel (AX Palace Sliema ‪@HotelsMalta‬ ) recommended Fontanella. The food was great but those views!!!
We can’t resist another church, this time the Carmelite Priory before heading out of the city and into Rabat. You can get the best pastizzis in Malta from ‘Crystal Palace’!
From breathtaking views atop the bastions to hidden alleyways bursting with character, Mdina captivates at every turn.
Back on the bus and we head to Mosta to see the remarkable Mosta Dome. We recreate a photo that my Dad took in 1948! It’s a massive, majestic dome that dominates the skyline, standing as a testament to architectural genius and centuries of history. It's like something out of a dream, and trust us, seeing it in person is even more mind-blowing! But here's the kicker: this isn't just any old dome. Nope, the Mosta Dome has a story that'll knock your socks off. Imagine this bad boy surviving a direct hit from a bomb during World War II... and staying completely intact! Talk about resilience!
We explore the World War II Shelter that’s just outside the Dome. A testament to the fortitude of the Maltese people.

What a beautiful place, even if it was a hairy bus journey. Those walls and the gate on are stunning. It reminds us a bit of the walled part of Ibiza town. The church is stunning. Wow those vaults are amazing and do look refreshingly cool. Oo lunch with a view! Wow that 2nd church is just as beautiful. The colour of the buildings gives such a beautiful light and we love all the horses passing through. Never watched Game of Thrones, so that reference is lost on us!! We've enjoyed your Malta series and it's somewhere we'd love to visit. Another lovely tribute to your dad. Amazing 🍻
