Ive read most of the comments. Best places for your Top 11-25 : - Lyon - Provins - Colmar - La Rochelle / Ile de Ré - Albi - Carcassonne - Dordogne / Lot - Annecy - Besançon - Narbonne / Montpellier - Basque Country - Gorges du Verdon - Ardèche - Lubéron - Marais poitevin
all are awesome. it was so hard to really get down to 10, there are so many great cities in france and just places to visit and hangout. thanks for watching and commenting!
I visited France and I had a great experience. If you respect the French people they are wonderful! I went to Paris, which is the most beautiful city I have ever been to. I spent time in Clermont-Ferrand and everyone was great! I also spent a day in Lyon, which is a fantastic city. If you make an effort to learn a few French phrases and try to speak their language it goes a long way. The land, people, food and wine are remarkable there. I can't wait to go back!
definitely worth it. they are all amazing. france is great
Love Montpellier! I was an exchange student (Canadian) there for a semester (almost two years ago now, time flys!) It was an awesome experience. It is a very youthful and vibrant city with so much to do and see, and the perfect hub for southern France. And it isn't too touristy! :D
So much to see and do in Provence area too. It is hard to pick the top ten, France is so beautiful
Me too! Great city. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I would surely have mentionned Carcassone, a medieval city very impressive. Overseas territories are not be omitted, Tahiti is so marvellous, Corsica is gorgeous
France is so cool. I love living here. Quimper, Arles, Colmar, Menton ... love it!
I understand how this is a very difficult video to make, cause there's is a lot to visit in France. I do want to add my personal favourite region to this list though. You don't even mention it, so I guess you might not have been there in which case I highly recommend it. I love the Dordogne, to the east of Bordeaux, most famous for all it's prehistoric sites. This one valley is actually known as 'the cradle of mankind' and it's a truely unique experience. On top of that the region has all the best France has to offer: beautiful nature, castles, lovely little medieval towns like Sarlat and utterly mindblowing food, even for French standards.

Yes, the Dordogne/Lot area. I just came from visiting Rocamadour, Figeac, Saint-Cirq Lapopie. Absolutely stunning region.
Thanks. Right now we are either doing a (southern ontario tour which now needs a replan) or we will be heading back to europe for summer 2013. Canada trip, basically Toronto to Quebec City & as much in between as we can see. Any recommendations?
I was amazed how much I really enjoyed Montpellier. I just stopped there because my train was passing through and I thought "why not just hop off" and I did and it was just a really great time.
I was in Paris fro Bastille day many years ago and it was great. we watched the fireworks from the park behind the Eiffel tower. good fun.
This video feels so vintage I love it
I am planning to visit Avignon this year, great to see that you included it in top ten. I've been in Loire valley and I really enjoyed it. Also I visited Bordeaux and I didn't have a very nice experience there, but it might be just my own experience. I'm looking forward to visit Nancy and also Lyon. I love your videos, I always listen to your advices when I'm planning to travel.
It's a challenge to name only 10 places in France, the country is fabulous!

it is an amazing city for sure!
Thanks so much for these great videos- our family watches them nightly as we are planning our summer trip!
I'd love to see a longer video like this or just more content about France outside of Paris! It's so hard to decide where to go next, and I think hearing your perspective on the regions would be helpful.
never had thought about new brunswick. totally opens up new possibilitites. thanks!
thats cool. thanks for the great tips. we are going to try and put it all together, unless my day job calls then our travel plans go on hold... dang day jobs!
Strasbourgggg yes I was supposed to go there ! the people are so nice
Thanks. We are looking to spend about 3 weeks driving around so all ideas are appreciated :) thanks!
I like that all your videos get straight to the point!
I will have to check it out. thanks for the tip!
I stayed in paris for 15 days! I LOVE this city so much~~
I just returned from two weeks in France. Paris was nice, but we were really awed by Rocamadour, Saint-Cirq Lapopie and Auxerre. Angers and Chartres are quite nice too. It does help to have someone in your party that knows some French. Some people do not speak much English and there are things you will need to read to understand like informational signs, parking meters, menus. Of course, there are translators like Google Translate, but I would still take a short course in French for travel online or in a class.
I visited France last April 2018 for 3 weeks and visit France about once a year I love France your video had great imformation
I recommend to you Lyon, Grenoble and Annecy !
thank you Wolter you help us a lot as usual for travel trip ,our plane next year will visit Paris, France
That was really cool. You are a very likable chap and those places look lovely.
Great job man. Love your passion. Terrific job with the video.
I'm french and I highly recommend to all tourists to visit Bordeaux. There are a lot of things to see ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bordeaux#Main_sights

always enjoy watching your videos. ordered a Wolters World shirt! lol
Thank you, Wolter! :D You are amazing! You are clever and gifted me giggles :) You just won yourself another watcher :p
There are "places" you must visit like Gorges du Verdon, Britany coast (Finistere), Corsica, Calanques of Marseilles, Etretat cliff (Normandy), Grottes of Lascaut, Basque Country etc...
@Leiake2604

Sour Deezal Yes! You do have some of my favourites there. The gorge du Verdon is really one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. In stead of Lascaut I'd recommend some of the other sites in the Dordogne valley though. Lascaut is like Disneyland. Why not go somewhere where you can visit the real cave with the real paintings rather than a reproduction.
Montpellier is my little secret! What I like about it is the mix of beautiful old "hotel particular" and the new young student cafe lifestyles. Also, the whole centre of town is pedistrianised and the cars run in a tunnel beneath it. It also has a sandy beach, lots of jazz bars, beautiful parks and wildlife (wild flamingos) and so many lovely fountains. Definately worth a trip!
this is awesome!! Definitely want to check these cities out
Nancy ! Yes! Still the number 1.. I'd put Marseille too, many great sights to check out and probably Bonifaccio in Corsica as well.
I'll be there next month! Thanks Mark!
It came out in August. It is filmed in Bassano del Grappa, Italy. I will email it to you so check your messages. I have a second one actually that will come out in December or late November
There are 2 super-cute villages in France that I especially want to visit. First, Yvoire, which is off Lake Geneva & a steep-billed one, Eze, in the south.
Been many places in south of France 👌
nice video! You should really go near Marseille to the "calanques de marseille" because it's so beautiful, i love the city La Ciotat) :)
I just discovered your channel and I really appreciate your work. You seem to quite like France and I live in Rouen, the city where this video was made, that's enough to enjoy your videos. I just wanted to add that you should put annotations on the titles of the others videos you were pointing out. I don't mind browsing your uploads but a lot of people operate better with the annotations. Anyway.
Nice! Thanks! I like the flashback pics. You know, you have a great life being able to travel so frequently and having a loving family alongside the entire time. Beats a desk job here in the states.

woltersworld can u plzz tell me , how much days does it take to visit all these towns you mentioned in the video ?
If you love great landscapes, there is the Auvergne's volcanos, and, in Auvergne, there is Clermont-Ferrant too, with the "Black Cathedrale", made in volcanic stones. Great Video ;)

It's funny I went there for a vacation in August. That was perfect! The nature was beautiful and it was very clean (not littered). It seems like they only get the good type of tourists which was great for me (compared to Barcelona where I live). The people were very nice too. And the food was OMG 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Nice reccomendations.Did you know there's a song about the Avignon bridge? A song for kids.
yeah I watched all the viideos last year helpful its was in 60s at the time last june best western hotel was a good place to stay at.your videos were very helpful to get advice last year since it was my first time in Europe. I feel like a more cultured person now, i'll look forward to seeing Italy and amsterdham. i'll have to check out more of videos the key phrases for Italian. your very nice and down to earth, person.
thanks for sharing :)
Oh my god! staying in Nice to visit Cannes and Monaco??? Nice is the nicest city of the south of France! You have to go to the old town of Nice and eat our amazing food : Socca, pizzaladière and so on! I also think you miss Lyon! That's definitly the most beautiful city of France just after Paris.
Hey Pal I really appreciate your videos! I've watched a lot over the years and they're very informative;)

Hey I was kinda curious. I did live in Bordeaux before, which was great. But I know very little about France. I was thinking about going back. I wanted to ask you, I heard that more people in France kind of have the brown eyes dark hair look toward the south. Does that include Lyon? Or is that more of a characteristic of Marseille? I happen to like those kind of girls and that's why i'm asking;) lol
Nantes (the city of Jules Verne) in western France is a awesome city.
Very useful information. Since we plan to visit Paris in September and intend to take a day trip, it would really help you could which destination would be best for us. We want to experience the authentic 'flavours' of small town/rural France and we love history and architecture too. Thank you.
France is so pretty!
I love your videos!
We've just filmed a 4k city walk in Bordeaux, it may help to inspire and orientate any of you due to visit. I'd have to say it's at the top for me. It's encouraging to discover how we can share and learn so much from each other. Thank you.
Nancy is in Lorraine ;) If you come back to France, give a try to the Midi-Pyrenees region. Many departments with many cool cities like Albi, Cahors, Rodez and Toulouse.
Thanks for all this wonderful information. Can I ask did you know how to speak French before visiting?
Thanks Walter!
Beautiful place won't to go there some day
Hey Mark: I have been to Carcasonne, France in 2011 - that place is amazing. Where they filmed Robin Hood. Its on the border with Spain
Biarritz is nice. Surf scene by atlantic ocean and basque people. Also sarlat la caneda is cool small place known for foie gras. France is nice(nice also) since all regions are so different and unique. And all in one country.
If you like champagne, visit Reims and Épernay. Take tours of multiple “caves”: each is unique in some way. There’s a tasting at the end of the tour. My favorite Gothic cathedral is in Reims. Gorgeous rose windows, tons of history, majestic 👍💐

It's gorgeous. You are right!
Hi wolters, if someday you come to Lyon I would be more than happy to have you as guest!! Lyon worth it and is the 3rd city in France (2nd when talking about metropolitan area) Cheers
I love how you pronounce the French's names of the cities, it's funny for me ! :)
I'd recommend starting in British Columbia it has stunning scenery, and also I recommend banff national park in Alberta and also Jasper Alberta it's just north of banff. Northern Ontario is beautiful and has very nice people.
When you come to the French Riviera, make sure to not only stay on the coast. There are beautiful cities and villages in the hills and the mountains, at not more than 50 km from the sea (Vence, Grasse). The Alps are very near, with 2000-3000 meters summits at only 100 km from Nice and a National Park (Mercantour). Cannes is nice, but next to it there is the Esterel, a formerly volcanic mountain chain that dives into the Mediterranean Sea ... nicer. And go to the Verdon gorges, one of the most amazing landscapes in the south-east of France. This region is all about landscapes !
I would also recommend peggys cove in nova scotia, it's very nice same with new Brunswick, Oh and one place I'd strongly recommend is going to tobermory, Ontario. It's the scuba diving capital of Canada, and there's lots of hiking and kayaking to do there, and you can take a ferry over some ship wrecks it's very nice!
Hi Marc! Have you ever got up quite freezing from the sea in Nice and layed down on the hot stones? It's such a great feeling! Beaches Cannes/Nice: if you're a tourist, especially with small kids, the sand beaches of Cannes might seem more interesting, and if you're staying at a hotel where you don't need to bother about the apartment and the pipes getting "flooded" with all these tiny particles of sand it's a plus. But, if you live here and/or have your own place, the sand might become a problem. That's why, in my opinion, the BEACHES OF NICE ARE NICER! Actually, if you wear some kind of beach shoes, the "galets" - the big and flat stones we've got here in Nice, are not a problem. You don't get a lot of sand get stuck everywhere and your towel stays sort of clean, as well as your apartment, shower and pipes! You might also go to Villefranche-sur-Mer, where there's no "galets" neither sand, but some kind of gravel.
Great Video! What kind of camera did you use to take the pictures of Paris? They are beautiful :)

Shannon C it was a Sony NEX5 I believe. it did take really good pictures, but the screen died on it :( we have a newer model now and it does really well too. thank you! hope you will subscribe :)
I love France (and you videos about it)!...You should have made top 20...What about Lyon? :)
Some of my friends visited the medieval town of Carcassone and loved it. I thought Carcassone would be in your list.

I also love when you say: "Monet, Van Gogh - these kinda' guys!" hihihi
Not too sure why people feel the need to complain on a video that you made to benefit them. Anyway, wonderful video. I can't wait to be in France, it looks beautiful. :)

France is amazing. we are going back again later this year and can't wait. it is fantastic. I love the people and the food and the sites. such a fun place to go.
It´s extremly hard to choose 10 favorite towns in France. If you´re intrested in history and the pittoresque and your base is Paris i would add Provins, Laon, Bourges and Le Mans. They are really easy to reach by train from Paris on a day tour and thanks for a wonderful channel!
If you enjoyed St Malo, you should enjoy Carcassone in the South or Colmar in Alsace or Provins near Paris, a medevial town. Though I am French, there are still hundreds of places I haven't seen yet :(
Try Besançon in Franche-Comté, it's a small city but really nice, and birthplace of a lot of famous people such as Victor Hugo, The Lumière brothers, ect.. And the food is great, living close to the moutains and ski stations, a lot of cheese and sausages there!
Awesome video as always man! You should travel Canada when you get the chance, Canada's probably one of the nicest countries in the world (excluding southern Ontario it's crap) but besides that I'd highly recommend traveling here!
Great videos, really ! Even if I born in France, you definitely saw more France than me haha I started watching your videos few days ago and I was like "Whouah they went to so many places ! It seems like they're in love with travelling". I also think that we should see the world :) Just a thing : you can't do a "Top 10 of the best city in France" without Lyon ! I mean that's the city of gastronomy in France, we have the "vieux Lyon" with its old history and its beautiful little street. So many things to see ! I hope you will go there :) Bye !

Kiyane Baada Lyon by far was my most favourite city to visit in France. It was just beautiful and I actually preferred it over Paris (Paris was great, but Lyon was better lol). And don't get me started on the food! My god, I have never tasted such amazing food in my life in Lyon! It's just such a great city and I loved it.
@woltersworld No problem man!
you are a super intelligent being that has transcended the human form to become a true being of intellect...
I would change Rouen or Paris for Chartres. It's close to Paris and it has a beautiful cathedral and city centre (unesco ).
Lille is nice too 😀
Nancy is not in Alsace! What are you saying? People die everyday by saying thoses kinds of thing! Run for your life! D:
very nice video thank you :-)
I'm from Rouen nice to hear how much you liked it, you should also check out Angers, Nantes and Annecy. But then again like you said, there are so many places to see in France. And a tip for people coming to visit France, you don't have to actually speak French, just learn how to ask people if they can speak English in French and people will try to help you even if they can't. It's just considered very rude to assume that people have to speak your language, and people that can't speak English don't like the fact that they can't even answer your question, you should ask in French so that the person in front of you doesn't feel stupid. By asking in French I guarantee you that people will try to help you regardless of the fact that they can or can't speak your language.
Nice and Monte Carlo have hop on hop off buses that tour the city - do a full tour of the city, then continue back to where you want to go. Both have stops stops near the train station in those cities. Note - Monte Carlo is built on the side of a mountain and the easiest way to get from the bottom of the city to the top is to cut through the train station and use its escalators and elevators . Trust me on this.
Do you have a video about the best smaller to medium sized towns, not the large cities in southern France?
Also, the cities you talked about where often unimportant cities were there is little to do (exept for strasbourg and Paris). Cities that are worth a visit in Drance are Lille (at rhe belgien border) Lyon (near the alps) Marseille in the south east Toulouse ithe south west and Bordeaux, which about 150km further north tjan Toulouse

+The Fhy DMS there really are just so many great cities towns and regions in France. You are right so many more
you should take a look at Annecy and its lake! and Lyon, the 8th of december, but I suppose you already did..
I understand that there hundred beautiful towns in France but even though Nancy has a beautiful Place Stanislao, you missed LYON It is an amazing city, (the 2nd metropolitan area the 3th city ) It's center is world Heritage, go and check it out Another surprising to me is LILLE, even though I wasn't expecting Lille to be on the top 10 when it comes to the most despised citiy in France, always overlooked , got a bad reputation for bad weather and past poverty, it has actually one of the most colorfull old historic centre, one of the friendliest cities if not the most in France!!
@DRGregltlredhseng

I want to go to Lille. I will try to get there on my next visit. I prefer towns with fewer tourists - no lines, no crowds pushing and shoving, real French people to meet,; not just other tourists.
Annecy? Chamonix? After Beaune, we are visiting those two towns. I hope we will not be disappointed as they didn’t make your list.
A few locations I'd like to add; The museums in Paris are all crowded? Visit the Chateau de Malmaison, just west, outside of Paris, it has one of the most beautiful english style garden in France. Now that you've visited Versailles, go to Vaux le Vicomte next. Seriously; Versailles will disappoint you after visiting Vaux le Vicomte. It's that good. Chartres, 1h30 west of Paris by car. Stop in the old medieval city and circle up the hill to the cathedral. Carcasonne in southern France. What's better than a castle? A castle built on top of a cliff! La Roche-Guyon, right between Paris and Normandy. Rent a car or a bicycle and visit the countryside. Choose a beautiful late spring or autumn day and you'll see why painters settled in the area. Marseille. Yes, it usually smells funny in the summer. That's the trashcans cooking under the sun. Go in the Calanques instead and finish the day with a supper in the Vallon des Auffes, an old port carved into the cliff.
Cool. I will have to check it out on our next trip to France. Merci!
wolter can you recomend me the french city COLMAR in the Alsace Region for day trip from switzerland.
In Verdon , South of France , north of St Tropez
Man ! What about Lyon !! You've never been there ?? You'll love the Bouchon Lyonnais ^^ And also Pays Basque (South west, near Spain..) etc

Yes, Lyon is a great city I think. Bayonne, St Jean de Luz, Guettary also... I've been abroad for a couple of years now, and it's true that France is a beautiful country, you just don't realize when you lived there all the time... And it's funny to see our own country from foreigner's eyes ! But I'm sure that when i'll go to the States I will be in the same mood as you ! Too bad in France we have too many political problems, and riffraff, and other things like this...
