Visit Croatia's Only Miracle Authenticated by the Vatican

I first visited Medjugorje in 1987 after I heard of the alleged appearance of the Virgin Mary to six kids who were tending goats on a remote hillside. Back then, it had one-third of all the tourism beds in the whole of Bosnia and Hercegovina. The town has grown considerably since then, attracting about 1.5 million tourists a year (compare that with 20 million for all Croatia).
Some 36 years after my first visit, the so-called Apparitions have still not been formally recognised by the Vatican. Indeed, the Bishop of Mostar over the years has been openly skeptical over the years.
And while there are 1.5 million visitors to a site not recognised by the Vatican, thousands of pilgrims driving down from Central Europe each year drive past a Croatian destination which not only has an authenticated miracle, but one which you can visit daily, even during Holy Mass. And VERY few tourists know anything about it.
A rather unusual tale of three churches, including one that the Croatian government promised to build in 1739, but only got round to in 1994 during the Homeland War.

@@TomRelic Do visit, it has 24 acre renaissance arboretum that almost no one visits. Inside is St.Hieronymus chapel from 13th century that is still used once a year. There is also church of St.Marry that is shaped like an open pavilion and the main church of St.Vid that lies on mass tomb of hundred or so Napoleons soldiers. There is also quaint little chapel above the graveyard thats hidden and covered in moss. Others are not so interesting and closed most of the time

All of Bosnia was once part of NDH Hrvatska. There's a story my dad once told about a war in Herzegovina-correct spelling by the way Paul.. between Croats and Turks where of course as usual the Croat warriors were once again outnumbered they designed an intelligent plan. Like something the Brits would have done. They dressed up mountain goats at night with candles to make the Turkish Soldiers think they were being attacked and outnumbered and the Croatians won the battle. By the way Paul would you be inclined to speak about Blieburg being that you are British? It's an important part of Croatian history as is the Holocaust to the Jews. Although it is a touchy subject being that you are a Brit yourself. Was just curious.

Medjugorje has been recognized now for the first 7 days of apparition (on Apparition Hill and at the Parish church, Saint James) that is from 24 June to 30 June 1981 or something. Check it out ! Pope Francis has named Archbishop Aldo Cavalli as the new special apostolic visitator to Medjugorje. The church is very cautious because the apparitions are ongoing now, they wait and cannot officially approve yet, but pilgrimages are allowed, when organized by dioceses and parishes. It is a very very special place in Bosnia Herzegovina.

Međugorje, Vatican has recognised the first 6 appearances of Virgin Mary as genuine. I still haven’t been there, and as it massively attracts Catholics from all over the world who come there to pray - the place has all of my respect as the real place where miracles happened (and continue to happen)
