Excelent video. Some years ago my wife and I broke an axle on our Bronco about a half mile past the end of the pavement on Bodie road. It was sunset and somehow got a cell call for a tow truck. Trucker said the nearest cell tower was in Bishop! Hours later we were in Bridgeport and stayed where you did but almost got a room at the old Bridgeport Hotel which was originally built in Bodie. The next day sitting in the cafe' we chatted with the seasonal Sherriff (most residents are seasonal) to hear some interesting facts, for one it's the only spot in California I know of that reaches -20 degrees in the winter. With highway 108 closed, few people go or even stay there. We later hired a local to take us about 100 miles to Carson City NV to rent a car and go home. It's a memory I'll never forget. You had a lot of detail in this video but the sheriff told us to come back- and we did, for the best old fashioned 4th of July parade you'll ever see in your life! Awesome little town!

For several months many years ago, 395 was my weekly "commute" to a job in Los Angeles. It was already after sundown on one return trip at the end of October that year that my little car tried to wreck its engine on the approach to Bridgeport. I shifted into neutral and coasted to a stop on the shoulder on the curve into town. CHP was almost right behind me, though, and pulled off to see what was wrong, arranged a tow, delivered us (me and my car) to a gas station with a repair garage (closed for the night) at the other end of town, and suggested a motel. It was dark, cold, and late -- and I hadn't planned a stop -- so I got checked in and phoned my parents to let them know what happened to me and wouldn't be alarmed if they tried calling me at home and got no response. I decided to make the best of the situation, so I took a good steaming shower. As soon as I finished and got myself wrapped in a towel, the floor jerked under my feet and the wood paneling on the walls creaked. Then the floor jerked at a right angle to that and the paneling creaked again. And then the floor began rolling in waves, the paneling was popping like it was going to fall off the walls, and the wall-mount tv was bouncing like crazy. I wondered if I should try to brace it, but decided I should just stay where I was -- right in a door frame, which is supposed to be a pretty safe structure in an earthquake. The quake was epicentered over at Lee Vining and Richtered about 5. Nothing huge, but a whole lot of shaking. My parents didn't hear about the quake until the next morning, but I got a wake-up call from papa, asking: "Do you want fries with that shake?" Good fortune saw to it that the head mechanic at the gas station had previously worked at a Los-Angeles-area dealership for the same brand as my car and was completely familiar with the model and its idiosyncrasies, AND the NAPA store in town actually had the part that needed replacing in stock. It was a long wait with nothing to read, but I was back on the road by late afternoon and slept in my own bed that night.

Annie : I have such vivid memories of being there many times in the early 1960's. Our family would camp at Twin Lakes and fish there and at the Bridgeport Reservoir. So surprised to see Ken's Sporting Goods store still up and running. I recall the 4th of July celebrations which always included a parade, Indian dances and the "greased pole climbing contest". Atop The pole was a $10.00 bill - a lot of money to a youngster then. I still have the 8mm movies my father shot from those days. Wonderful memories!

We were in the Twain room but didnt hear/see anything... but another day.... maybe.... but thats for later....

Good old Hollywood always doing trickery! You'd be surprised how much that occurs. I prefer the old keys to hotels rather than the cards. They are reliable. Love the old cemetery. It really looks like an old western cemetery out of the old west in movies.

My Nana lives in a converted school house. It was from the late 1800’s and also closed in 1964. The farmer across from her school house went to that school. The outhouse is still up as well! I love going there because it’s like touching history. In the outhouse there’s graffiti from when the first school kids were there! I just love it.

My husband and I visited America in 1998 we came across this little town. We stayed at Twin Lakes for a few days and got chatting to the locals, we then found out that there was a Motorcycle Jamboree on so we headed down to Bridport it was amazing to be part of it as with are both into the bikers lifestyle.

Have you thought of doing a video on the st Francis dam disaster. I think it would be cool to do a series with talking about the victims, graves, what life was like back then, the small camps near the dam and how it impacted the state. I can go on but you tell stories so well and you can tell that you really do your homework.

I've truly hoped for the success of your channel since discovering it a few months ago. During these times of social distancing, I've ironically felt as if I've gotten to know the two of you in a very personal manner. I've a suggestion, that might go against your first inclinations, which I hope you take in the manner intended (good honest feedback). When I watch your videos, I always wonder about the residents of the community that you are visiting. My thought is that It might benefit your channel to interview local patrons. I believe there is a kindred spirit between your videos and the impressive works of Huell Howser, except for community interviews. Looking forward to your next video...

Any where in this great area is wonderful and is like heaven at least u'r closer to heaven without being in heaven. As kids our family spent a few weeks in high Sierra every year. What a blessing that was and I passed on to my wonderful wife.last few months of her shorten life all she wanted was to spend it in the High Sierra's, mammoth lake's. Oh we honey mooned in June lake's.

Curious since I lived there in the 60s, loved the community and Requa Inn was just down the road from us and the Gussin's, owners at the time, were very good family friends. It has quite a history of its own. 🙂
