🤓 A little about my eyesight: 🤓
I have had glasses for astigmatism since I was 7 years old, but I only needed them for specific circumstances, like reading blackboards or night driving (not when I was 7, obviously).
At the age of 22 I landed an office job, and with my lovely new money I bought a smart phone. 6 months later, I had myopia (also known as short sightedness or near sightedness) and had to wear glasses full-time.
My prescription has been going up since then, and I have been freaking out as I sit back and watch my eyesight deteriorate, feeling helpless and scared.
I was up to -3 in my left eye, and -2.5 in my right eye when I discovered Jake Steiner and the EndMyopia method.
I am still only a few months in, but already I am seeing at almost -2.00 in my left eye -1.75 in my right eye. Small changes, but any improvement is amazing when my eyes have only been deteriorating for the last 10 years.
I am loving knowing more about eyesight and how eyes function. It's fascinating, and learning so much feels empowering. I love that I no longer feel helpless about my vision. I have also quit my smartphone so I could get over my screen addiction. I even bought a Nokia to get me out of temptation's way! Since doing this, I have been making progress with my vision, but also have regained so much of my life and time and perspective, so this vision journey is definitely having positive knock-on effects in my life as a whole.

    I like your approach with your optometrist. They may not believe that natural reduced lens therapy eyesight improvement is something that can actually work in most cases. However, if that is the true, they may see that in your case it works. I look forward to finding one that might even be supportive of natural eyesight improvement. As a side note, I have a friend who's -1.75 and his optometrist said he's -1.50 now. I think he's been listening to me! Since he's so low, he basically just wears contacts/glasses when he absolutely needs them. That's so nice to not need them for close up. I'm so jealous. I think people who are low enough like my friend could improve their eyesight almost by accident because there's less involved.

    Hi Gemily, just now seeing this one. I've had much of the same thought processes as you described. What an optometrist would find. How much about my EM vision habits would I let on? Was my starting point actually 1/4 D worse than prior full-correction? Forward progress vs. equalizing. Should I go "backwards" and bump a lens up a quarter. Sphere vs. cylinder. Losing ground by equalizing. Totally get it. Just 3 weeks ago I came off a 4-month plateau because I tried reducing cylinder too fast). Bumped the cylinder up a quarter, reduced sphere, and that suddenly kicked my visual system into gear--it's been amazing. So given all of the above trials and challenges, I think it is fantastic that you have optometrist confirmed 0.5 D improvement (which, in reality is probably 3/4)! And he sounds like a good find! April? I obviously need to catch up on EM vids and podcasts. Nice as always to see your face :)

    Congratulations on your improved vision when before you started you were ready to get even stronger glasses. I know this video is old but from the videos I've seen your results might be as good as it gets. I'll keep watching to see if you continue to make gains. If by doing this I get a modest reduction in my mypopia but it doesn't continue getting worse like it used to then I think it's still worth doing. If anyone had offered me weaker glasses for up close work way back even though I wasn't old enough to "need" them I'd have taken them but nobody did. I'm at -3.00 in my left eye and -4.00 in my right eye. I'm hoping I'll be able to get my left eye vision down to where I can actually do some things without glasses but I don't know. It'll be close I think. I guess Jake's website (I've only glanced at it) claims most people should be able to get down to 20/20 but I haven't seen any KZreadrs backing this up so far.

    " If by doing this I get a modest reduction in my myopia but it doesn't continue getting worse like it used to then I think it's still worth doing. " - I 100% agree! Even if I don't manage, simply stopping negative progress is amazing, and improving at all is like a miracle! Matt Ely got down to not needing glasses anymore and passing him DMV. Have you seen his videos? And another thing would be for me - there is no point at which I will be able to say I "failed" - I only fail if I stop taking care of my eyes, so, even if it takes a long time, all I have learnt from Jake is stuff that will stay with me forever. The difference in my vision from when I started to now may only be about a diopter, but I started because I felt the blur closing in, and could no longer function without glasses - I couldn't even find my glasses to put them on without wearing them - I had to ask my husband for help if they weren't where I expected them to be, and that terrified me. Now, I can function without them again - yeah, it's blurry, not 20/20, but the blur isn't that bad that I can't manage (Except for driving, of course). For me, that has made my eye sight so much less stressful. Thanks for your comment! And here's hoping one day I can tell you I have made it to 20/20.

    I expect that at my next appointment the optometrist will say I need 0.75 more than what I wear. 0.75 stronger also seems to be what I need at night for perfect vision. Maybe that gap shrinks a little as eyesight gets better??? I don't know. Still waiting to go from 0.75 weaker to 1.25 weaker so I absolutely know that I successfully improved by a full 0.25 diopters. I'm learning to be patient to experience the entire process of reducing . I'm close to -1.00 as I have tried it twice already.

    I think that you are doing great going to see the optometrist but also trusting yourself on what correction you need to wear now. I never got proof of my last optometrist-measurment (about one year and a half ago) because I felt too anxious about asking them to provide a written prescription. In my country they usually tell you how many diopters you're at, but they don't give you a proper prescription so that you don't buy glasses elsewhere... Anyway, I was told that I was 2.50 and got very discouraged for a while, 'cos I felt that I was already below 2.00. It felt like an awful veredict. I will come back in some months but I don't want to get discouraged again, because I know that my eyes are seeing better, and that's the whole point :)

  • @GemilyMez

    @GemilyMez

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'd say normalised would be best in that situation! Because you need your eyes to see well for sport so if you were slightly undercorrected you would be giving your eyes great stimulus and they would naturally be putting in effort to see clearly. Normalised glasses shouldn't be so undercorrected that it would effect your performance. You only want a slight undercorrection, just so things aren't crisp any more, not lots of blur.

    I'm the retired optician that has been following your "vision improvement" process very closely. I'm really glad that you went for an eye exam and even happier about your result. You did the right thing by wearing your -1.75 / -1.75 glasses to your appointment. That was even better than if you had gone in without any glasses claiming they got lost in a river. What you did by wearing -1.75 glasses was to show him that your eyes were working rather well with that prescription. So he would be hesitant to go too strong with over correcting your eyes. One thing you need to not worry much about at all is your astigmatisms which is as you know only a -.25 CYL in each eye. just to show you how little it really is, if you were being fitted with contacts your doctor would totally ignore it, and your contacts would only be for SPH only. Now if your CYL was at -.50 then he would take half of that and add an extra -.25 to your SPH numbers. You said that you first got glasses at the age of 7 and it was only for your astigmatisms and your eyesight was otherwise perfect or nearly perfect until you were 22 and you got an office job that required lots of reading of small print which resulted in you becoming nearsighted and wearing glasses full time in less than 6 months time. When you were 22 and got your first glasses for myopia were you surprised at how fast your eyesight went from being quite good to not being able to see hardly anything clearly without glasses anymore? One of the things that you probably did that only made your eyesight increase even faster was that you probably were wearing your glasses when you were at work doing close work. Even though the close work was what ruined your eyesight for seeing distances you should have still been able to see small print fine without glasses. You really should have only been wearing your glasses for distances and not all the time. That's why the program you're doing has you wearing much weaker glasses when you're doing close work. Which basically ruined your eyesight as your prescription only continued to increase from year to year. Now your on the road back from full time dependency to being able to go without glasses more and more often now. Once you reach the point where you're wearing -1.25 glasses for both eyes and seeing well with that prescription you will be at the point where you only need glasses part time and mostly just for driving. Then the next step will be getting to -.75 and once you reach that point you should be at or very close to being able to drive without glasses anymore. Remember you only need to be able to see the 20/40 line of the eyechart to pass the driver's vision test. By the way I think you were having an issue with your left eye not wanting to adjust to the -1.75 prescription of your glasses. Your right eye was seeing the 20/20 line perfectly through the -1.75 lens in front of it. I assume that your left eye finally has accepted the -1.75 lens for that eye? So you should be about ready to order your next pair of glasses in a weaker prescription. Will those new glasses be in a -1.50 or -1.25 prescription? I'm thinking you should go straight to -1.25 and if that doesn't work you can always order a pair in -1.50. and safe the -1.25 for a few months down the road. When looking for your next glasses maybe just for fun look at theses sites. Zeelool, Voogueme, Payne Glasses and Zenni Optical. I'm not sure if it's Zeelool or Voogueme that has jewelry that matches the glasses that comes along with the glasses. They even have some that the earrings attach to the earpieces of the glasses instead of your ears. The prices are all very in expensive as well in many cases under $5.00 for a complete pair of glasses in whatever prescription you want.

    Hi Jim Boice, Glad you are helping these people get back to 20/20, from mild myopia. I met an OD like you, who, "wised up", and forced his three children to wear a +2 Diopter for all close work , during the school years. RESULT: They all got back to 20/20, and kept their distant vision clear - for life. That is what I am doing now. Confirming 20/20, using my Test Lenses, and Snellen. Yes, confirming 20/20 is great, when you do it yourself.

  • @soundmanpt

    @soundmanpt

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@YOYO-zy6yj First of all I'm not an optometrist, I'm an optician. There' about 4 years of schooling difference. The common believe is that once you become myopic it's impossible for it to ever be reversed. Myopia is the result of lengthening of the eyeballs and once they are lengthened they can't return to their original length. But as you may know when a woman becomes pregnant there is about a 50% chance that her eyesight will be effected as a result of her eyes being lengthened resulting in myopia. In most cases the myopia is permanent, but in some cases this lengthening has reversed itself and gone away shortly after she had given birth. I have n o reason not to believe people like "Gemily Mez" that has been working at it and seen actual results. One would think if it wasn't working for her and she didn't have any noticeable change in her eyesight she would would have simply given up long ago and continued wearing her glasses full time. For her and others the only way to prove to the world that myopia can be reversed is by getting their eyes examined by an optometrist early on and then getting them checked after a year of practicing "Endmyopia" to see what the results are. Getting copies of their prescriptions each time. Just by wearing weaker glasses isn't the actual proof they need to have to show it really does work or doesn't work. In Gemily Mez's video she has done exactly that and in my opinion seeing is believing and she has her prescription slip to prove her eyesight has improved since her earlier eye exam. That makes it very hard to dispute what she has managed to do.

    @@soundmanpt hey, thank you for clearing my doubts. also, i guess when a woman becomes pregnant her eyesight just becomes blur (due to hormonal changes, according to the internet) and returns back to normal when the child is born, maybe the eyes never really grow in axial length? and if it is possible to reverse myopia, the ophthalmologists and the scientists would clearly mention it? as much as i want to believe endmyopia is legit (and it must be as so many ppl have got great results), i still have a lot of skepticism regarding it. hope you will answer:)

  • @soundmanpt

    @soundmanpt

    @@YOYO-zy6yj What's interesting, is why will some regain their normal eyesight shortly after giving birth and others remain myopic? I've commented to a number of young ladies that have posted videos about getting glasses for the first time and a number of them had recently had a baby. In their replies to me they said that their optometrist told that was the likely reason they were now wearing glasses. Some indicated that they had additional changes in their eyesight with each pregnancy. What I'm not sure I have any answer for is why wearing weaker glasses then you actually were prescribed can cause shrinkage in the lengthening process that caused the myopia in the first place. I do suggest that anyone interested in trying the "endmyopia program" to be very careful in how they go about doing it. Before starting the first thing they need to do is go for an eye exam and be sure to get a printed copy of your prescription slip. This is a must have to prove to anyone that endmyopia works or doesn't work. Next go on line and order a full size Snellen eyechart which is under $10.00. The next thing they need to do is find a good inexpensive on-line glasses site to order their glasses from. I think places like Zenni Optical and Payne glasses are good sites to use. Now the next thing is deciding on how much to reduce your glasses by. You never want to be too aggressive with this which too often people tend to want to rush things by reducing way too much. I would recommend only reducing your SPH by -.50 in both eyes. The main thing is that you need to be able to see to drive safely and only reducing by -.50 you should still be safe to drive wearing the weaker glasses. Remember you're eyesight only needs to be at 20/40 in order to pass the DMV testing. Post the eyechart in a good well lit area and stand 20 feet away to test your eyes. Test at around the same time of day about once a week wearing your weaker glasses to see if there has been any improvement in your eyesight. Your goal of course is to be able to read the 20/20 line wearing the weaker glasses. Over the course of a year continue reducing your glasses once you have met your goal. After the year is up, go for an eye exam hopefully with the same doctor as you saw the year before. I would suggest that you wear the most recent pair that you were seeing 20/20 with for your appointment. You can tell the doctor that you broke your own glasses and you borrowed a pair of your friends glasses. Once again be sure to get a copy of your prescription. Juts like "Gemily Mez" did. That's the only way you can prove or disprove it works.

    Sounds like your optometrist was concerned about you losing blur sensitivity. Strange though, as blur sensitivity is restored by wearing stronger glasses again. Lowered blur sensitivity should not be a permanent condition. If you brain can learn one way, it can learn another. But yes, lowered blur sensitivity is not what we want, which is why only a small amount of blur is desired for the EndMyopia method.

If I find a way to get rid of them, I'll let you know, but at least they 1. aren't usually any serious medical issue, 2. Aren't dangerous, 3. Don't cause pain, and 4. Can change over time. They can be pretty annoying, but when mine are annoying me, I try to consciously focus on the world around me, looking right through my floaters rather than at them. That helps me.

    8:00 Hi Gemily, I always wanted to find, "the Good OD", who caused his own -3.5 DIopters, from 10 years of doing close work, and did not want to, "talk about it". He discovered the necessity early prevention, for his own children, and was successful. When he attempted to help, "All the other children", he found out that, "the parents will not, 'stand for it". So all the other children became myopic, at -0.5 Diopters per year, while his own children, "never entered into myopia". The moral of the story? We object violently to the OD, who might wish to help us recover from 20/50 on our Snellens. The wise ODs know it is better to not talk to you about this issue, of legal control of your distant vision - for life.

    Hey Gemily, I had a question. Can active focus be accompanied by double vision?

  • @GemilyMez

    @GemilyMez

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, it can. But double vision is usually an improvement on blur, so if you have blur and do AF and get a rather clear but double image, that is indeed an improvement. Active focus is just an improvement in vision - it does not always have to become crisp and sharp to count as active focus.

    does what you say work for hyperopia?

  • @GemilyMez

    @GemilyMez

    3 жыл бұрын

    It might. I obviously have no experience with it, but if your hyperopia is just a refractive state, not caused by any medical condition, then it is certainly worth a try, but you would need to reverse certain aspects of the process - instead of a weaker correction for close up, you would want your weaker correction for distance - so your distance correction would work like your 'differenrials' and your close up like your 'nornalised'. Another person recording her progress in reversing hyperopia is BlackSquareable ( kzread.info ). I haven't watched a lot of her videos, but her experience may be helpful to you.

    @@GemilyMez - Hi Gemily, Truly an interesting question. You should know that all normal eyes have "positive STATES", and are never, "medically defective". For me to read 20/20, on my Snellen, I must measure my refractive STATE at +0.5 Diopters. It is this gross misconceptions of the eye's normal behavior, to call something that I must have for 20/20, a "medical defect or problem". This distortion of science, completely destroys an intelligent discussion, about recovery from mild nearsightedness. Your goal, is to get your normal eyes to change from a "negative state", 20/50, or -1 Diopter, to a positive state, or to +0.25 Diopters, and 20/20. The word "hyperopia", should not be used here. Or, perhaps for refractive STATES, that are more positive than +3 Diopters. I hope this is, "food for thought".

    I think that's why when the doctor checks your vision, he checks one eye at a time. when you wear your undercorrected glasses, your dominant eye compensates for the lazy eye and binocular vision is always better than monocular

  • @alanx4121

    binocular vision induces accommodation because of the horizontal angle of the eyes. Put something close to the eyes and use both eyes to bring it in focus, close one eye and notice the strain, now release it, vision blurs. The muscles causing the strain (nose sided extra-ocular) are more tensed and inflexible than the ear sided extra-ocular muscles. I have made it an exercise to release this strain as much as possible in different ways.

    I showed you these optometrist results. I know what glasses correction I was wearing when I started. What proof could I possibly give you that would convince anyone who didn't believe me? I can show you optometrist papers, but if people don't want to believe me, they could say I made them myself. There really is no way for me to PROVE to you I have improved, especially not over the internet. You have to decide whether you find me trustworthy or not. I showed you my latest opto correction. I don't know what more I can do. You can stick around and see if I get a lower correction from the opto later, if that would be proof enough. But again, they are just pieces of paper, and I can't prove to you I didn't make them up myself. So *shrug*. I guess, no, unless you are my optometrist, I can't prove anything. But I am also here to improve my vision, and I am documenting that process. It's okay with me if not everyone who finds my videos is convinced - makes no difference to me.

    Thanks for the feedback. I find sometimes it is helpful when channels I watch ask for people to like - it costs me nothing and otherwise I may not think of it. But I was experimenting with how asking at various points along the video affected my analytics, so I did put more than normal in this "episode". Because it really does make a difference to content creators. You don't have to pay for their work, so this is one way you can show appreciation - but you won't do it at all if you don't think of it, or if you don't know it means a lot to creators. But your feelings are noted.
