Vhagar was an ancient war machine. She fought other dragons before. This scene echoed the early episode where it was noted that most of the tourney knights had no combat experience. Aemond was playing at war. Vhagar was a weapon he pointed at his nephew without realizing or respecting what his dragon was.

Zero experience with Dragons yet Dany knew they're not slaves. Because they're her children, she mistook them as pets until ultimately realizing (the hard way) that dragons are weapons.

Right... Amd hence she chained her two "sons" in a dungeon due to another one's disobedience - because that's what you do to your kids and not slaves afterall. Perfectly understandable behaviour there!😂 Daenerys may have liked to spout out the "Dragon is no slave" to all and sundry - and to a moron slave master with zero sense of self preservation that's actually applicable - but its debatable whether she actually realised what it meant when it came to herself either.

The look of sheer terror that he absolutely just fuck*d up was portrayed perfectly.

Deamon acted like that because he wanted the attention of his brother he wasnt evil or cruel he became it because he had too since his brother was "weak" and to focused on his dreams. Later deamon heard about the Song of fire and ice (nightking vs jon and dani) which hurt him. But he was always loyal he even created a army in case his brother dosnt get the throne so he can take the crown for his brother with force. The first dream predicted the downfall of old valyria which was the reason the Song of fire and ice became true in the first place. The yi ti knew about the nightking and even thought their the oldest and mightiest living beings with eyes out of light they never interfered. Which makes sense later. It is said the yi ti teached the valyrian how to controll dragons with blood magic the doom than would have killed all dragons if the targaryens wouldnt have fled thanks to the prophezy. Later the targaryen dragondreamers ( fun fact tyrion the dwarf is most likely a targaryen and not an lannister and was also a dragondreamer and also the only person besides dani and jon (targaryen) who could Touch dragons) Than the nightking never would have escaped his prison. After the great hero with lightbringer defeated the nightking he hid for 8000 years to create a new army how ever without dragons magic leaves the world which affected the nightking since he is the strongest magical being. With dani and her dragons his power came back and he let the wildlings live to reproduce and use them for a new army. Sadly the childs of the forrest worked a magical barrier into the wall he wouldnt be able to overcome without a dragon. Dani resscuing jon (targaryen) gave the nightking a dragon which made the Song of fire and ice true. With jon killing dany the wheel finaly got broken. But with drogon alive magic comes back into the world (dragons dont have a fix gender some believe they change their gender if needed so dragons who lay eggs are called she and dragon who dont lay are called male even thought no one knows for sure if a dragon is male female or both) Which is a problem the yi ti and the other magical folks never attempted to conq essos or the valyrians and the valyrians never wanted westeros for some reason even thought the valyrian were 100 times stronger than the targaryens.

No. The show ruined the story. The greens have made it very clear that they are usurping the throne and must kill Rhaenyras claim. The show writers are terrible and whenever a pivotal moment happen they make it look like an accident. You can’t make Aemond a character who clearly states his intentions to destroy Rhaenyras claim, but then “it was just a prank” when it happen. The Baratheon lord calls Rhaenyra a bitch when he tells him to leave.

Aemonds actor portrayed the feelings of his character in such a perfect way. You can see he is shocked that he lost control and that he never wanted to actually kill Lucerys. He wanted to teach him a lesson, yes, frighten him. But never kill him. Edit: Obviously, I'm talking about Show-Aemond. Show and books are always two different stories.

From what I understand, dragons and riders connect more emotionally, so they are more likely to act on emotional impulses, such as this. It would have been different if vaehgar? Idk how to spell it, went and ran lucerys down alone. But aemond was the one pushing him to keep up and more or less pushed him to be act more instinctively And less thinking or real care. Plus a fireball to the face would make one very angry large flappy boi

Dragons feel their riders emotions which is y Vhagar was viewing Arrax as threat since his rider was feeling anger towards the other rider

He just wanted to bully, take revenge. But this was out of his control. Because he made a mistake, forgot something, no one can control dragons.

From what I understand the books are like the bible, 2nd 3rd and 4th-hand retellings of events with a few notations from those actually there. What House of the Dragon is supposed to be is the full unadulterated truth of the matter. This is the full truth that historians will alter to suit their needs. Of course they would say that it was a purposeful and strategic attack to strike fear into the "false queen".

@@simonemeekins8389 some of this is Fire and Blood is a retelling hundreds of years after the fact, how the characters feel about the events is often pure speculation or just not included, especially when there are no witnesses. For Aemond in particular we don't get a lot of information about since he doesn't have a big entourage to write things down later.

This show keys the viewers in to all of the nuances and truths of every happening. The book is not a 1:1 accurate and earnest recounting of events. You are meant to doubt it.

Watch it again arrax blew fire after it had already been chased by vhagar for a while. The younger dragon and rider were clearly panicked and scared. So it probably did it without thinking. You can even bear luce saying arrax no when it happened. I dont think either of the boys truly wanted a fight but aemond didnt take it too seriously that hes a rider to a dragon thats been in wars thats probably thought thats what was happening.

@@shilo2972 true. They are dragons. They will most definitely react on their own at some point. One can't control them all the time. Like viserys say. It's a bond... neither is controlling. Both dragon and dragon rider should understand eachother. Dragons aren't machines. Arrax reacted the way any younger smaller animal would react infront of a larger predator. They would do their best to dodge and flee, and out of desperation they could breathe fire like arrax, or a cat trying to scratch, anything, to get out of there. Both dragons acted out of instinct. You cant blame either. Luce is young, he's what... 12 ? 14? Here... and he was scared shitless. Like anyone would be if they see vhagar lol. He shouldn't have flown away in the storm. But he was scared. He didn't want a fight. He made a promise he wouldn't fight here. Arrax is clearly scared and unsettled by Vhagars presence as well. And sensing his riders fear you can see arraxes and Luce fear mirrored. When Luce run to arrax, arrax is running to Luce. Luce can tell arrax is scared and unsettled. He still tried to calm him down and fly. Vhagar is Old, experienced, and mature. She is not to be messed with. She is not a toy. You can't play pranks or try to bully a kid using a war machine and not expect things to go wrong. I love Aemond. Hdjdjdhd but you can see his realization of several things here. 1. He knew, this is going to be war and he started it by accident. Cuz clearly he didn't want to kill Luce just scare him. 2. Him losing control of Vhagar, was his eye opener. Vhagar wasn't just teaching arrax and Luce a lesson but also aemond. She is not a war machine to be used on stupid pranks. She is to be respected and used for actual warfare. It's a pity really... all of them. Aemond, Luce, vhagar, arraxes... A real pity.... thoughtless actions driven by emotions, always have Dire consequences...

I always like it when characters that are technically evil regret actions they’ve taken that have resulted in something terrible happening. Regardless of why Aemond regrets what he has done, it still just shows that there is a shred of humanity in him. Can’t wait for when he and Daemon fight!

He is not evil at this point. He did not purposely kill Lucerys. He has a lifetime of resentment against Lucerys and others for bullying him when he was a kid and for having lost his eye. Then Lucerys just brought all that anger to the surface again when he laughed at Aemond at dinner, when they served the roasted pig. Aemond was just acting on his emotions at this point. It was resentment and bitterness, not evil. Evil would be what Daemon did to his wife and that poor innocent servant. Just pure cold blooded murder.

This reminds me of kids playing with firearms that "are not " loaded until one accidently kills the other. The genuine shock and dread in the actors face was perfectly played

Just to remind all of you that King Viserys dragon was the black dread balerion himself He has the biggest beast ever lived

Viserys would’ve been so broken if he lived longer and knew Luke died I feel that would’ve changed a lot for the greens

I know, the man just wanted his family to be happy and love and support one another even though he knew how flawed they were. He got a brief glimpse before his end. Before they all went insane with pride and a lust for power. I think daemon was the only one who truly had his back; probably why he is so wrathful because he was away when his brother died.

Dany definitely brought them back with blood magic. The witch's magic latched to her infant and the life went into the eggs. It's said the eggs started to hold their own heat after. She felt that heat and knew they would awaken, and as we see in the show, she already knows she doesn't burn testing her hands on the flame.

For anyone who cares, theres a side story written where Lucerys lives, he fell hundreds of feet into a river, he surprisingly makes it to the shore where a fisherman finds him, and raises the boy as his own. Lucerys suffered a head injury where he forgets everything about his previous life, he becomes a fisherman and take a wife whom they have kids with, you could tell he was never made for that life, he was way too innocent, in the end he actually is pretty lucky

Vhagar was trained to became war machine not a toy to play with aemond was young and reckless he never should have played with vhagar like that

It makes it so much worse bc the boy he killed was so sweet, so kind and innocent & he was also bullied by Aemond most of his life too. Senseless death. But that dragon was well aware of what he was doing.

He wasnt bullied by Aemond at all until after he scarred Aemond. He wasn't just a sweet innocent kid, he attacked Aemond out of jealousy which resulted in Aemond getting his eye cut out. Not saying he deserved to be eaten alive, but he was far from a sweet and innocent little kid. He was just another brat getting himself into far more trouble than he could ever handle

@@MilkySubstance Hi🤗 I guess the way I saw it was aemond was mocking the girls about the dragon's last rider, their dead mother. When jacaerys stepped in to protect them, aemond started in on him. I remember him teasing him & Luc about being bastards. When Jacaerys dropped his knife Luc picked it up and defended his brother from the much more formidable uncle Aemond. Since then Aemond was an a$$hole bully to both the boys and the twins.

@@yunhosmile Luc and Jac tormented Aemond over not having a dragon for years, and at that younger age Aemond was definitely not their more formidable uncle, he was still a child and weak compared to the other two. That's why Luc and Jac thought they could get away with tormenting him. It wasn't until well after he lost his eye, when he started training with See Criston, that he became the fighter he is now.

@@yunhosmile Aemond didn’t actually attack the girls, they did , the strong boys joined in and they ganged up on him 4v 1. I don’t call them exactly innocent after that , and there was no remorse no apology nothing this really looked like they were entitled to Aemond’s eye .

I'm glad someone else understands the point- many overlook it and think Dragons are commanded because they're told words like fly and fire. But the rider has absolutely no control over whether it chooses to obey or not, the dragon makes the decision, it obeys if it WANTS to do what it's told to do. That's the illusion. And they are very sentient. Like Vhagar refusing to burn Laena multiple times until she realises she's dying and begging Vhagar for end her pain and only THEN she kills her. Out of love. Had Laena said Dracarys on herself and was not dying Vhagar would never obey this order, she loves Laena. She mercy killed her mommy and became depressed and isolated and that's how Aemond claimed her. They have trainers but they're simply to make them integrated and used to humans, to teach the Dragons to listen and understand commands. Other than that there's no control. Dragons will not obey if they don't want to or are scared/angry etc

In the original Story written by George R. R. Martin, Aemond did actually intend on killing Lucerys as the Targaryens were already planning the War. He killed him because at that time, the war had (technically) already started and they were already enemies.

Aemond knows what's gonna happen next 😢

The amount of rage and power that is going to come to Rhanera after this has me in chills every time I think about it. When you saw her learning about it in the end. She was DONE

It was his brother that bullied him, and his oldest nephew that joined along with aegon. Luke was fairly innocent in all of it. Only thing Luke did was cut Aemond after aemond was trying to bash jace with a rock.

When you realize Aemond is sitting there shocked while Lucerys is literally afew feet away from him inside Vhager boiling in stomach acid probably screaming 😱 💀

I would like to point out in this scene it shows that lucerys was a better dragon rider then aemond. Because lucerys was the one giving his dragon commands in high velaryion but aemond got so scared and freaked out he resorted back to English.

Look at his face... The realization that he fucked up so badly... And the look on Rheneryas face when she hears about it... There was a chance of peace for a moment.. But after this... Hell no... Part of me feels likes not about control of the dragons but control on oneself, the dragon can pick up on it. Rheanys has amazing control of her dragon and Rheanyra called her dragon off from attacking Otto. Theyre like extremely powerful bonded puppies, Aemond DID want to hurt Luke, maybe not kill him, but Vhaegar knew. (I'm sure I misspelled some of those)

That's look goes beyond the realisation that he started a war, he just found out that he is sitting on beast he can't control, and which is simply tolerating him for now

Vhagar: "kid ima show you how we did things back in my day"

So poetic how one dragon killed the other considering that the two boys are also "dragons"

And thus began the Dance of the Dragons

The face you make when you realize you just started a war that will most likely destroy your house from within, as well as your Armada of giant fire breathing lizards.

Animals do not think as sophistically as humans do. The nuance of an encounter is lost on them. In this case, Vhagar didn't know for all intents and purposes Aemond was 'playing' with Lucerys. It was real to the dragons. And then Vhagar ended it because that's what she would do if it was real.

Yeah but he was still seriously flawed in his rule, Viserys is very responsable for the start of the civil war simply because he messed up the succesion line, he let himself be manipulated by Otto Hightower schemes, and he denying Daemon's rule, which would have avoided all of this mess. While he was peaceful and wise, he was weak, naive and he lacked resolve.

This reminds me of my dog, whenever i was relaxed, he was chill af but whenever i was feeling stressed, anxious, mad etc, he would be on constant alert and see things he would normally ignore as a threat. He wouldn't attack without consent but you could see it in his posture. It was different.
