This is great. Always nice to hear people having conversations about boardgames and you guys all contribute alot to the Heavy Cardboard experience. Very useful to get a better understanding of the individual tastes as well to see who might be the best match for my taste. Especially useful for the playthroughs of potential new purchases down the line.

Outstanding channel. Would it be impossible to do playthru of Tanto Monta, Here I stand, and virgin queen?

Really enjoyed this definitely all marshmallows! Since Edward seems to be too busy to revive the HC podcast atm, maybe there is a world in which the four of you could get together over there? (Martin needs to fix his mic though ^^')

The last topic, games teaching us something, really resonates with me lately since I've been learning A Distant Plain, one of GMT's COIN games. This game started to give me an understanding of the complex situation and events that took place in Afghanistan, the motivations and values of the different factions that were all part of the conflict. Excellent game and I'm really interested in learning about the other games in the COIN series.

Woah… Is Paul the Untitled Flash-Based Review Thing guy?? His voice is giving me flashbacks to learning Through the Ages from those videos.

Games I dig, but BGG doesn't; used the Geek Rating number over the average rating on the game's page Betrayal at House on the Hill (6.8) - clunky, broken idc. One of the very first modern games I played, the modular board, and crazy story endings blew my mind. Come Oct. put on some spooky music, dim the light, light some candles, get some witch's brew ;) and you got yourself a cracking good time idc Bus (6.8) - 7.6 on the game's page btw, but more users need to rank this baby so it doesn't get pulled down by the algorithm - I did my part, it's an 8 to me. Pure mechanisms and the tension is great. Personally dig the art on the og board Catan (6.9) - 7.1 on the game's page btw, but the first modern game getting me into the hobby. Played in tournaments. Got most of the expansions and modules, promo tiles, 3d printed pieces etc. Cities and Knights is probably a bit more fun to play than base, but you can't understate what Catan was, is, and will be for the hobby DVONN (6.8) - 7.5 on the game's page btw, like others in the GIPF series I like, LYNGK (6.2) [7.6], and TZAAR (6.8) [7.7], they simply need more ratings. YINSH is the one that has them, but these other three are great too Ecos: First Continent (6.5) - 7.1 on the game's page btw, came out in 2019, but exactly when idk, pandemic right around the corner, game industry bloat, but it may have just gotten passed over. John D. Clair, loads of replay-ability, when you are patient with the game and let things develop, you can swing some big point scoring moves and it's neat. I blinged out my version with some mini rubber animals to replace the tokens, which make the game pop. Also, found simply getting a cube to move around the card tracking it's uses, instead of rotating the card and needing to read upside down is a super simple fix to make gameplay less fiddley. It's a fine game, that works with larger player counts, plays up to 6. Formosa Tea (5.9) - 7.4 on the game's page btw, setting and theme meet very well imo. Some unique mechanisms in play and some tricky/thinky sequences needed to be the most efficient great tea maker, or screw it rush out the bad tea and sell it to the domestic market haha. 2nd edition with revamped scoring, actions and more on KS right now (5.2.2024) Fort (6.7) - 7.1 on the game's page btw, setting to me brings back childhood running around the streets in the 90's just playing til the street lights came on. Pizza and toys, ugh yeah. I like deck building and the dual use cards is nice. Deciding to use [play] a friend card or they are at risk of getting taken [leaving] your deck for another friend [opponent] is an interesting choice at times High Tide (5.5) - actually 6.0 on the game's page, so 1/2 that meet the sub 7.0 criteria from the video, but yeah probably not really that interesting, but I've only played it twice, both times at two players, but it's simple, it's got 5 mini modules to throw in all at once for just a little bit of extra stuff. Idk, I want to play at it's 6 player count and all the modules b/c something interesting is probably there, 7.0 worthy idk but it's listed at 25 min play time so there is something too Iki (6.999) - 7.7 on the game's page btw, 6.999 is less than 7.0 so it made the cut haha. Yeah whatever the fire is random and can wreck your game, but in real life fires do that to your life and can be "random" at times so whatever. Personally the original art is way better imo, but the Sorry We Are French team updated and balanced the game so I've got both copies. Tight game, and a cool setting. Old West Empresario (5.8) - 7.1 on the game's page btw, doesn't blow your socks off, but you can have 3-4 things to do with your dice on your turn, take a building, activate all your buildings matching that number, recruit stuff idk it's been a minute, but those choices and the scoring aspects of the game with the most of a type, placement orientation, manipulating the dice, min/max play, it's fun Paper Tales (6.5) - 7.0 on the game's page btw, charming, tight, super quick game. 4 round and boom done. Probably why people don't like it, and it's tough to grasp on first play, but my two counters, it's so quick you can play again now knowing what to expect and the freaking iconography is tremendously helpful just pay attention to what stage of the round we are on and check all your cards for that number and if you have it, do it, simple. Plays 1-7 with the expansion - the solo is difficult. Drafting, 30 min max, neat setting and some tricky mechanisms that can be real fun to pull off. Shout out to the Shapeshifter into Colossus flip + Necromancer, my first every gameplay and it lead to a win. Petrichor: Collector's edition* (5.7) 7.9 on game's page, but 6.9 on base Petrichor's game page, both have 2,600 ratings combined so safe to say it's below 7.0 making it the other actual qualifier with High Tide. Setting alone Petrichor makes the cut, so unique and pleasant. Mechanically the push and pull players have changing the weather and making things develop in the game, all the while battling over board position via crops and meeting their scoring objective. Throw in the vast array of crop tiles, promo tiles, expansions, and cow poop (yep), it's very well researched and developed. The collector's edition has stunning art, the game components are incredible, it's neat.
