as a UVA alum i fully recognize this fact plus the missed call against Auburn. however based on their overall performance especially in the ACC over the past season or three, i think they deserve the title. and pulling out those last minute wins required a lot of poise under pressure which is befitting of a champion.

This is a very tough one and definitely not black and white. Clark was definitely in position but you can argue that he vacated his position by flopping or you can argue that Culver made contact with him and it should have been a charge anyway. Put the top 25 NCAA refs in that situation and I'd guess 15 would call the charge. Nunn would probably guess 10.

Guy was clearly calling for a timeout, and yet the referee, who was just 2 feet away completely ignored guy’ signal for a timeout! I truly believe that Texas Tech was the toughest team to play against in the tournament, after seeing snippets on how they dismantled a vaulted Michigan team ; But Virginia made the smart plays ; It was a case of brain against brawn. The mental breakdown on Texas Tech part, at the end of the game for allowing the three , sapped their mental focus and energy!

Respectfully disagree with the ref guy's view on the last call reviewed, in this game, by the refs. Defensive players, even in the NBA, knock the ball off the offensive player's leg or body all the time; who is say Hunter didn't purposely knock the ball back into the offensive players hand and out of bounds?

Pretty easy.... Texas Tech player was to far under the rim, and never jumped. Contact is fine, Hunter jumped, and snatched the ball. If he had even jumped a little and made contact with his arm it could be called, but Texas Tech was boxing out... he just lost his balance and was under the rim allowing it to be clean.

Most thrilling ever is a bit extreme. I wouldn't even say the best in the last 5 years because all the drama was separated by long replay calls. I'd say UNC vs. Villanova is a better recent championship game because the two final crazy shots happened back to back. It was mental. And even before that the entire last minute and a half was back in forth.

Also Owens one of Tech's best shot blockers injured his foot the game before and wasn't 100% and didn't play the minutes he usually played. I believe Texas Tech is still the better team overall just had some bad luck and wasn't the best team that night.

As a Texas Tech alumn, I can honestly say that Culver was almost a liability in the tournament. I love the kid, but the hype on him was way too much. This is the opposite of what Tech players usually get (Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Darvin Ham, Zach Thomas, Zhaire Smith, Sheryl Swoopes). The only real complaint I have with the reffing was the trip that went against us. All of the jump-ball calls...those are judgement calls that 50% are going to be happy with, and 50% are going to be mad. Sports. It was an amazing season for Tech, one I'll never forget. I lived in Virginia for a few years, so I also like and respect UVA. If we lose to a team in such a monumental game, I'd want it to be a school like UVA. I honestly think they were they better team, by a hair. And that's what the final score indicates. Congratulations UVA, and Congratulations to a terrific Texas Tech squad.

Great breakdown, coach, but you missed the elephant in the room on the controversial call with 1_09 left in OT (14:13). Virginia (Guy) fouls Texas Tech (Moretti) as the Tech player is gathering the loose ball. As a result the Tech player is unable to gather the loose ball and continues to chase leading to the controversial out-of-bounds replay overturn. That first foul should have been called, Tech ball. The referees, especially at the bottom of the screen are woefully behind the play (gotta get guys who can _RUN_ for 40+ minutes) and hold their whistle. Ronnie is correct on opportunity to reassess the actual rules of the game on what we used to call "force outs".

Coach Nick: "Ugh... UVA won a championship. I don't like that --> Ooh! I know! Let me find a random referee who agrees with everything I say to make it seem UVA got all the calls by selecting very specific plays throughout the game that were very close that can debatably be construed as going UVA's way (while also conveniently ignoring all the similar 50/50 calls that went TTU's way). But gosh darnet we can't have it appear like UVA won the game on their own merits, even though literally no one questioned the officiating in this particular game." Come on man, I know you don't like UVA for... reasons, but do you have to be so blatently biased? The Auburn game? Okay, at least there is a case to be made with the double dribble thing. But this game? You're high. Edit: Except for the phantom tripping call -- that was a pretty shitty call.

That just proves the Cavaliers had to earn it and it's why March Madness beats all sporting events! What your not realizing is that the smaller schools have caught up to the power conferences because their players stay in school which makes the playing field more level! U, in all actuality, shouldn't be surprised that a 16 can play with a 1!

If your bugged about the fact Gardner Webb played even with Virginia for awhile, then u don't understand the balance that exists and has increased over the years in college basketball! The one and done era has made it that way!
