I've been there. Great place. The cemetery was the best part for me as well. When I got there , it was kinda late and during the week at the end of winter. Most of the stuff in town was closed or about to close , so I explored the cemetery instead. It was almost dark when I left, and drove to Reno for the night. Great place. I need to go back if I ever get the chance.

We went to Cloudcroft NM years ago, we drove to Carlsbad Cavern.....we stopped at these lonely cemeteries, the stones, and the unkept graves along with prarie dust and tubble weeds where as you have filmed, was sad but educational, the small childrens graves, I found a good size clam shell with a stone child laying in it...Will never forget it!

Thanks for sharing this. I've been there many times with my family over the years. It was always one of my Mom's favorite places to walk through and just wonder about the people who rest there. My Mom's been gone for over 6 years now and when I take my family to the Silver Terrace Cemetery and walk the grounds, I can feel her walking with me and it makes me happy. Thanks again and I'm glad I found this video here on youtube. John :-)

The first Cemetery I ever visited with my Parents in 1959 at the age of 7. Thank You for taking me there again in your video. I thought I saw the tall statue of the Angel briefly in your visit, is the large Angel still there? I have watched several videos done by others and not seen the statue. I haven't been there in 15-20 years and I can't remember how far in the statue is in. I hope vandals or someone hasn't stolen it. Thanks again for your video, the best one I have watched so far.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I do seem to recall seeing a few angel statues in Silver Terrace. I think they were more in the upper part where the Masonic cemetery is. Some day I plan to return here and do a proper exploration. On this visit I was just a tourist and hadn't yet conceived of this channel. In fact the idea for it was born on the drive home. It's still one of my all time favorite locations.

@@graveexplorations That's great to hear . Where will you be going in the Mid West ? Theres some wonderful old, out of the way, cemeteries throughout the Mid West. With some rich in history. I love this walk, such history , of it's people ,these old fenced in gated areas, with the people who now lay at rest within them are so intresting to see. Do you know why they did that? I was wondering about it. Was it that members of a family, one family ,are buried there? Or is it just the way they did it back then? And I like your voice, it's so calming. It's nice to hear you explain as you go. Keep up the good work Matt ! Enjoy your walks through these lovely old cemeteries, learning about the history and about all their lives . Thanks Matt Well done.

Thank you Victoria! The Mid West trip I was talking about happened in 2017. I went to Central Illinois and explored some of the Lincoln Trail. The video I did of Oakridge Cemetery came from that as well as the one on Thomas Lincoln, and Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis. Believe it or not, I still have a few more videos to make from that trip. I hope to get to them soon. It was a great time. And there is so much to see in the Mid West, I really want to get back. I'm planning on 2 big trips in 2019, but I haven't nailed down where just yet... the East Coast is looking highly likely.

I noticed several people wrote about the condition of the cemeteries and why the city doesn't keep it up, but usually that falls on a cemetery board and I doubt there has been one for many years and what you see is the natural landscape of the high desert, I bet except for the age of the stones the cemetery looked like this 100 years ago. You don't see lawns and beautiful trees in his part of the desert

@@califdad4 Virginia City is high desert. Our water source is piped from the Sierra's, to the west of us, making it precious stuff these days. Back in the city's heyday, this cemetery was the finest in the State of Nevada. Locals would picnic amongst the tombstones and admire the abundant greenery. There is a cemetery board and they have made some improvements, but budget impedes desire. In the fall there is a walking tour featuring actors portraying ghosts from the past, delivering a variety of experiences and history.

It is accessible only in the summer months because of the snowfall in that region. It is my favorite ghost town with a fascinating cemetery and I would love to see you make a documentary on it. The place also has a famous curse. I revisited there last week; Manzanar cemetery as well. Lots of interesting little cemeteries along California 395. They would make interesting additions to your filmography. Keep up the great explorations. Your fan!
