VIRGIL HUNTER GIVES IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF MAYWEATHER'S SHOULDER ROLL; REVEALS MISTAKE OPPONENTS MAKE

Спорт

"The midwest shoulder roll style that came from Luther Burgess on down to Bill Miller and those people that Floyd Sr. picked up after he was shot...then you have the slip-slide style...a coach that I studied under, Jimmy Simmons, was a master of that slip-slide style...the biggest mistake you can make is to go for Floyd's shoulder," stated world-class trainer Virgil Hunter, who gave an in-depth analysis of Floyd Mayweather's shoulder roll style. Check it out!

People really don't listen to Virgil as much as they could benefit. They don't understand this kind of smartness. But Ward's father knew. Completely separate point but I always believe its a mistake to aim for the shoulder of a shoulder roller, the cost benefit is negative. Also its increases your risk of a counter with low risk benefit. I use it for rest and for grooming a counter and traps. A beautiful fighter I spar with had me completely lock (whilst shoulder rolling) by keeping his left hand on my chin-hand (right countering hand) and hitting me with his right hand (never shoulder roll a south paw if your orthodox). Now I do it to anyone shoulder rolling me. What a sweet science this game is.

What’s the most amazing thing about this interview is Virgil Hunter is praising Mayweather because of his skill and his brilliance in the ring and this was right before he even boxed Berto. This was when Hunter actually thought Berto compared to Mayweather, I can’t imagine how amazed he was by the landslide of a win by Mayweather against Berto. If he thought Mayweather was great before boxing Berto, I truly can’t imagine what he thinks of Mayweather after he easily outboxed and beat Berto and made it look effortless.

Call the Philly Shell or call it a Midwest style guard but the truth is there has only been one man to perfect it and make it what it is today so if you ask me it should be called the Mayweather Shell.

He is not a boxing scientist, as it can be considered an insult to real boxing scientists, who dedicated their lives to education and scientific research in the field of boxing. He can be reffered to as a boxing trainer and philosopher.

the difficulty is in the perfection of the shell.. then comes the real game, when to use it, why and how to show some offense from it. I think lots have probably mastered it but have lacked in other technical areas ( the mind) to stop offense coming through it

Something people need to realize is Mayweather uses more than just the shoulder roll stance but then again Berto will learn that up close and personal and he will see how great Mayweather is.....a lot of people underestimate Floyd.....he is way more than he appears to be but I am still looking forward to this fight Berto has the tools to end the night he has the power and quickness to get something through and land something....BUT will he do that is the question....we shall see. We know one of his goals is to get a KO in true Berto style so we shall see.

The shoulder roll is not a style its a technique. Also Jack Blackburn (from the midwest) laid the foundation for what Ray Robinsons style eventually became. He knew Blackburn as a youth and would talk with him often, he also admired Blackburns prized pupil, Joe Louis. If you look at Ray Robinsons posture and Joe Louis' posture, its damn near identical.

i dont see what these trainers watch about flyod but to my personal knowledge i believe mayweather training style is to avoid power shots. he doesn't care about jabs. people should go back and watch mayweather vs guerrero epilogue. in the fight Roger mayweather said if guerrero can't hit mayweather with a jab, then he can't hit him with anything. i think that was the blueprint ROGER gave to fighters. but mayweather is so amazing and talented that he has also master how to counter his weakness ( the jab). in the secound fight with maidana he counted maidana jabs several times and that also kept maidana thinking and cautious about using it..

Adu Foreal Floyd actually has a masterful jab he has about 3-4 variations of it that he employs often however he uses certain tactics on different fighters. The Guerrero fight Robert is a southpaw so Floyd tends to walk southpaws down touching their lead hand this takes away their jab and Floyd can touch and shoot with the right hand touch and shoot off the jab and touch left hook.. the fact he didn’t throw jabs on the traditional sense is because he likes to take southpaws apart this way disarm them

Lucifer Mann he should be gone, why would Floyd continue to be an offensive boxer and more of a brawler when he can easily outbox you and have longevity in the sport and a healthy life for the rest of his life? Look what just happened to his Uncle Roger and Floyd Sr is going to have the same problem. He grew up in boxing his entire life, he’s seen what happens to people who take a beating, why would any smart boxer continue to box like that when they don’t need to? Only an idiot would or someone who didn’t have the skills like an Ali, Muhammad Ali is definitely one of the greatest ever but he didn’t have half the skill set or mindset Floyd Mayweather Jr had, that’s why he took such a beating and that why he lost 5 bouts which 2 of them were in his prime.

That shoulder roll is not MidWest it’s a Philadelphia invented move from Mr. Benton, Mr. Bowie Fisher, and countless other Philly fighters.

Mayweather is vounerable to be hit with a Jab if you throw your Jab after you throw a right hand. After he shoulder rolls your right hand and makes you miss he goes back into his starting position that he was in before he shoulder rolls the right hand for a split second and he's on line to be hit with a Jab. If you get him on the ropes this will can work especially and Cotto did that to him don't even worry about throwing the left hook after the Right Hand he's anticipating it and his next move is already to defend against the Hook in that Shoulder Roll style but if you throw the Jab after the right hand he's easier to hit

What if after you threw the right you switched to southpaw and came over with the over hand left ?
