It would be helpful if you uploaded more videos because you're awesome. Your Brahms Op. 91 during your TED talk is literally the best interpretation I've heard. It's great to have viola heroes (like you) out there for all us violists.

Hi Jennifer! You make such a lovely sound! The second example is a significant improvement. But as a physicist/violinist, I must correct one concept: If your viola is not moving up nor down when you play...then the downward and upward forces are balanced...by definition. So in BOTH examples, there was balance of bow arm (plus gravity) vs upward arm/chin/shoulder force. What was different in the second was that you raised the scroll with your hand about 15 degrees, bringing your elbow away from your body, freeing the viola more from your collarbone. So rather than "gripping the viola more from your chin and collarbone, and resting your elbow on your side (taking the downward force through your arm to your body), as in the first example, in the second example you are balancing the viola more evenly between collar bone and hand, and dynamically using your hand to oppose the bow+gravity. Regards, J

sorry, the music and the sound comes from the mind not from moving the body, the body and the moves should not disturb the sound and the physic while playing
