My friend bought a 77 firebird once at an insurance auction. I almost bought it,but it said biohazard on the windows and we found out someone committed suicide in it. I didn't want it anymore,so he bought it. The black rubber hose was still in the back seat. The interior smelled like slightly sweet rotting roadkill and exhaust. (Rotting corpse smell is hard to describe if you've never smelt it before).Anyway it was white w/ red interior. The deceased person's hand print was slightly, but permanently stained into the console by the shifter. That smell never really left that car. He cleaned it and cleaned it. It always had a slight rotten/ exhaust smell to it.🤮 6 months later he traded it for a S-10 p/u. You could still smell that smell. 🤮

Thats crazy that it would of been allowed to be sold since it had the bio hazard sticker on it.

Nothing morbid about wrecked cars from years ago! They can be a great source of hard to find small parts, and we can learn from them why present cars and trucks are designed the way they are...to a point however. Always was a hobby of mine to look over wrecked cars in the junk yard or tow lots and theorize as to how they were hit and by what. Later on, in the late sixties and early 70s, I was tasked with taking on the scene photographs of the whole scene in major wrecks, for others to analyze the crash. Now of course, the investigations are ultra accurate, using GPS transits, drone footage, and so on.

My grandparents lived next to a junkyard when I was growing up and I'd always walk through and look at the wrecks. Seen alot of nasty stuff. The two that stuck out the most was a wrecked Yugo that smelled like death and had blood everywhere in it, and a wrecked 57 Chevy Bel-Air that looked like it hit a tree headon. There was chunks of hair stuck in the wheel and what looked like a head imprint on the passenger side of the windshield. Honestly morbid stuff but oddly so neat.

Remember looking at remains of a big four door Pontiac that hit a tree at 100 mph and the motor was all by itself, all bolts were sheared clean off and I tried to picture the motor traveling through the air still spinning couple thousand ram. Another was Chevy nova wrapped around a power pole so that the front end and rear end were side by side.

Have always been intrigued by wrecked cars. Every other weekend, our family would drive out in the country to visit the Grandparents. On the way, we went past a gas station that always had the latest wrecked car of the week right out front with a huge sign warning to "Drive with Care". I would be standing on the back seat of the old 56 Pontiac as we past, so as not to miss a thing. Still fascinating to this day.

I remember in the 90s I knew this teen girl who had a 57 chevy sedan. One day she had a bad wreck and no seatbelt the police said what kept her from being ejected through the windshield was that giant steering wheel. The steering wheel caught her knees. She had bumps and bruises but was ok. I also know someone who had a 55 chevy truck and they crashed into a hill. He died because that giant steering wheel crushed his chest.

I knew of a car that would've fit in his collection, back in1986 my friend was coming back from saturday morning football practice he was racing one of his teammates in a mid 70s LTD wagon that had a big block in it, he swerved to miss an on coming car, slid side ways took out 4 small pine trees before a big oak stopped the slide, he bounced off the tree and the car ended up across the street. The hit was on the drivers door, he wasn't wearing his seat belt and was thrown in the back cargo area, he was fine except his left side was a giant bruise from knee to shoulder. The hit was so hard the car was u shaped, the seat bottom was rolled like a toothpaste tube under itself and the seat back corner was bent 90 degrees backwards. Here's the kicker 4 yrs ago it turned up on craigslist, complete right down to the hub caps, an old ford collector had it since the wreck all those years.

When it was wrecked it had 35000 and change on it. Cadillac used the trunk A/C throught 1956 moving to in dash under hood units starting in 1957 with the 57/58 body style. Cadillac continued trunk mounted A/C for limousines that had front and rear A/C. I believe but could be wrong but Cadillac used that system for the limousine series through 1976. You only used 1st gear and reverse on the 4 speed transmission it used. When I was a young kid in the 50s and 60s I was hoping that every phone call was the state patrol to go to a car accident. On many occasion's when a car was down a steep ditch he would have me get into the drivers seat and tell me which way to turn the steering wheel. If I didn't turn the wheal the way he wanted the profanities would fly.....good times

I LIVED IN DALY CITY CA. I SAW A 57 FORD FAIRLAINE THAT WAS A TOTAL OF ABOUT 20 INCHES HIGH, ALL OF IT, IT WAS RACING SOMEONE AND FLIPPED IT INTO A STONE WALL ABOUT 7 FEET HIGH, IT TOTALLY FLATENNED IT. I KNEW MY CAR MODELS PRETTY WELL EVEN THEN, BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT HAD BEEN, THE TOW TRUCK OWNER TOLD US. HE SAID IT WAS GOING AROUND 115 + MPH.

My wife did that to a 65 Chevy II . She lost control one the dirt road. Hit both sides of road ditches. Flipped and roll upside down. She crawled out and walked a mile back home. She hit all four corners. The only piece of sheet metal that we could save for resale. Was the glove box door!

I have s great old photo of a late '50s Mercury sedan badly wrecked on the Big Island in the '50s-'60s. It was in an old house torn down where a mechanic lived in the '50s-? He owned an autobody shop and had worked as a mechanic with Ruddle Sales & Service, Ford agents on Hawaii. DeSoto cars & trucks were sold here then. On the property was an MGA roadster, a '51 Plymouth sedan and a '66 Monterey hardtop sedan. They were probably all scrapped too.

I am 60 years old and back when I was a kid we had an auto wrecking yard. We used to get all kinds of smashed up cars and I had a real fascination with them. I would often carefully sit in them while minding the broken glass that was scattered all over and imagine what the people went through during the crash. I particularly remember a 1959 Cay Eye Chevy that was hit really hard in the front. Besides the damage the car was in incredibly good shape and we actually knew the owner that was in the crash. This was before they had collapsible steering columns and I remember the steering wheel was sticking away from the housing about two feet into the interior. It was almost touching the ceiling. I could not figure out how Don the driver survived but was certainly glad he did. He was such a nice guy.

You guys are right! Pay attention when you’re driving! And pay attention when you’re walking across a street. I was hit on April 6 2011🚦by a Nissan Maxima. Driving 30 mph. I suffered a parietal skull fracture. And Subdural Hematoma. I was in a hospital 11-weeks!

Too cool. Something you don't see every day, vintage complete wrecked cars. Of course can see in junk yards, but most every vintage crash there has been completely picked over for decades for whatever parts could be saved.

A good friend of mine died in his 1968 Plymouth Runner Runner in 1974. He hit his car car head on into a 64 chevy Impala. The front end was 4 inches from the firewall. My friends dad gave me the 68 RR for free, since I was a mechanic and body and paint man. All that I could do is part the car out of reusable parts, including the rear quarter panels, with the complete rear body trunk section, rear axle,, and blood soaked interior. Saved the 4 speed Trans, and the 383 hemi engine. I left the scrap yard man just a ghost of the 68 Road Runner. Speed definitely kills folks.

I worked in a junk yard for a while, and every car that someone had died in was prepped and crushed immediately. unless the insurance company wanted to take a look at it, then it would be parked in a shed. the yard owner didn't want relatives or friends of the deceased to see the car and have a meltdown.
