Vintage Treasures & Stunning Decor Await at the Ultimate Antique Show!

Beautiful Venue, Beautiful Vintage at My Favorite Florida Antique Show...
Between Bay and Gulf coasts, Saint Petersburg, Florida's charming 1926 Coliseum Ballroom plays fitting host to an antique show with playful vintage fashion, mid-century modernism, kitsch and decor, Victorian costume jewelry and some truly exquisite antiques!
Sunshine City Antique Show is a longtime fixture of the Tampa Bay area antique community. I bring my best from points as far as Seattle, while other dealers come from New York, New England and Canada.
Enjoy views of St. Pete’s 1920s recreational centers as we make our way to the venue, itself a stylishly breathtaking remnant of that decade’s Florida land boom. In front of the stage where Guy Lombardo performed are rows of experienced antique and vintage dealers, with so many great specialties that we have to extend this video to two parts! (Join us Sunday for the wrap-up)
Collectors respond to this show, whether seeking Tiffany or Tiki decor! Louis Icart original prints and Lilli-Ann coats, Chinese porcelain and silver vertu tempt today’s collector. Compacts and boudoir items are matched by bronze bookends and 1950s advertising starting at $2. Resellers hear why one should buy heavy coats and Victorian furniture in Florida.
One dealer explains a source of knowledge on Early American tole trays, while another poses two puzzlers (please reach out in viewer comment if you think you know the answers).
I hope my review of Sunshine City Antique Show and this truly special events center helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, St. Pete’s historic attractions, and the collegial nature of a good antique show. I’m excited to share my real world vintage encounters with the online community. I love sharing our passion and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more of what I find:
Antique and vintage dresser boxes, cloche, mid-century chrome furniture, guilloche, advertising, Floridiana, mid-century art, Florida art, automaton, Roseville Pottery, Lalique, Turner print, beaded bags

    I like the sexy, Mad Men-like music that kicks off the video, complete with the mud-century, brightly-colored shapes. My favorite item was the Shirley Temple doll at 24:19.

    Hi George, don't know if you will see this after all this time but since I have learned SO much from watching you I just wanted to point out that there is a significant difference between the quality of 'Gold Plated' and 'Gold Filled or Rolled Gold'. Gold Plating literally means that a thin film of gold is electroplated on to the surface of a base metal such as copper or brass and is prone to wearing easily. Gold filled or rolled gold has a thin layer of gold that is rolled over the base metal and adheres through an electrical process but because it is a layer of gold and not just dipped it is inclined not to lose it's colour and is generally more expensive than gold plated but yes, I suppose they are versions of the same theme as you say. Thanks for another great video from Ireland.

  • @TheAntiqueNomad

    @TheAntiqueNomad

    That is actually a much better definition of the difference than I gave! I prefer rolled to plated as well. I'll try to describe it as you have in some future video to help people understand. Thanks!

    Still catching up on older videos. I love this antique show. Thanks for all you knowledge. I did take the challenge of the "Loong" and found a great article from 2015 about the cultural aspects of it. The hole it in might suggest that it was meant to hang someplace where people could see it and understand its social status of the owner. www.questia.com/library/journal/1P3-3683333391/cultural-differences-of-chinese-loong-and-western

    The Antique Nomad Scott and I (14 yrs older) come from that bygone era when we were “dealers”. It has not been an easy transition to MCM or “vintage”. With the decline, lack of interest, and new generations’ collectibles interest, I hold some contempt, but have learned to now embrace things up to 1970. At 66, I promised I would never react this way to change, knowing how older dealers in my time felt the same about our interests- chalkware, Japanese tin toys, and cartoon characters. The advent of the “farmhouse” look held me in check for awhile, because one of my major selling/collecting interest had been primitives. I really lost it and went off the rails when 1999 became the date specifying “vintage”. I now comfort my bruised vanity by telling myself and others, “I had a seat at the table when this business had credibility and respect”. That wisdom and arrogance has not made me many new friends amongst the new generation of “resellers”. I will one day learn to just keep my mouth shut, Maybe? It was never about the “flip”, but history, insight, and learning!

    Rickey Donald I’ve been on both sides of that divide as well, I’m less concerned with what people like as that they develop some connoisseurship about it! I own items from the 1880s to the 1980s, all because they interest me and bring joy. I started the channel because I’m frustrated that price alone and making the deal have become the focus, rather than appreciation of the items.

    Rickey Donald as far as “vintage”, 20 years may be a generation but it takes 30 in my mind to be vintage, lots of stuff is made 20 years or more without changes and I can’t accept that an item can be both “vintage” and available for sale new
