Vintage Trams in Porto, Portugal 26th June 2014

I managed to find time on a business trip to film vintage tram cars running an intensive service along the riverside in Porto, Portugal. These cars were also seen buzzing around the city centre, although filming them there was almost impossible at the time due to the heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The streets in the city are often narrow and incredibly steep. On the riverside is the tramcar museum (One car can be seen entering the museum yard on one of the clips) Filmed on 27th June 2014.

These Porto trams were built by the J.G. Brill company of Philadelphia in the USA. I am quite sure they're the oldest "streetcars", as they would have been called in the US. in regular revenue service. Lisbon's 400 series were American made too. There are none in regular service.

I remember riding one of these from Porto to Matosinhos in 1990. I thought they were ancient then as I feel now aged 56. I was young then and spoke Portuguese better than now even though I am from Manchester, England. Nice to know their American origins.

Hi there, good to ride with you around the lovely Lisbon, we film gopro walks through soulful cities too, so it's great to see someone else's eye view of one of our favourite places. We really enjoyed your nicely filmed video and liked the pace and natural sounds. Thanks for sharing it, we've subscribed.

Thanks for your comment. Gosh; it's a few years ago now! I normally use a tripod, but these clips were taken on a business trip, so were a bit 'grabbed'. I would like to return and try a full day's filming! Cheers, Dave

Thanks Steve; yes, you can hear them coming for miles! I was amazed to see such vintage equipment used in regular service - and worked so hard. I wish I had been able to visit the museum and film trams elsewhere in the city, but time was not on my side! Cheers, Dave.
