Vintage Story Guide - 1.16 - Episode 66: Upgrading to 1.17! Exploring What's New!

Ойындар

In this episode, we start by preparing some salted meat for our eventual journey to the south. Then, we get ready for and execute a different kind of journey: the upgrade from 1.16.5 to 1.17.2! We walk through the process of a careful upgrade, and once that's done, we explore some of the new features in 1.17!

@@Kurazarrh A difference in 800 MB is pretty substantial. That's about how much my instance of Firefox is using while I'm writing this comment. It's kind of funny to compare this to Other Block Game, where a decent modpack with roughly equivalent features can take upwards of 4000 MB.

Haha! There are a few that were still out at the time I was recording this, but now Campaign Cartographer has been updated. Volumetric Shading Continued isn't updated at this time, but I'm not sure I'll need it going forward; a lot of visual and shader effects have been added to 1.17, and I was mostly using VSC for the performance gains, which don't seem as critical anymore. ^^

I've discussed this with the developers, and they were aware of the cause, which has to do with the game loop itself having issues keeping up with loading and rendering distant chunks as they come into the player's radius. @@Kurazarrh I lived almost entirely on fish in a wilderness survival permadeath run in 1.17.3 this past weekend (sadly ended by a a pair of wolves that jumped me just as I had finally panned enough copper for my first pick and hammer… alas.) I had a small (less than 100 blocks of surface area) pond near my base fed by two mountain waterfalls, which yielded between 5-10 fish a day, at least 50% of which were already dead when I harvested them. (They were washing down the falls and getting dumped onto a dirt block instead of into the pond.) I’ve seen only a handful of fish in a huge “inland sea” in the world that followed that one… not sure what that says about how fish spawn. And more than likely fish spawn code will end up changing when Tyron and team introduces a fishing mechanic other than “chase and whack with whatever tool or weapon is in your hand.”
