    *to the person who was live in stream and said that smithing hurts their eyes. Go into the setting, there's an option slider that thins or thickens the Voxel Grid when smithing/clayforming. Crank that slider up a good 20-30% from its default and you'll get much thicker and easier to see lines on the Voxel Grid, which is very helpful for those with poorer eyesight or help prevent strain after long sessions.

    Personally, I wish you would give From Golden Combs a chance. I also wish it weren’t so weird with controls, having to place things in such a manner, and being able put them in the regular inventory (a problem I hate with the general games packs and mods like butchery). The ceramic pots are so much better for me that the constant build/rebuild and loss of hives from skeps in early game, and I kind of like having something to do in the game other than planting and forging/mining.

  • @Kurazarrh

    I mean... I am giving From Golden Combs a chance, just that I'm giving my thoughts about the experience in real-time. I think it's a really NEAT mod, but I don't know yet if I really LIKE it. I'm somewhat predisposed to disliking things that are fiddly or that require a lot of effort without a commensurate increase in efficiency or efficacy. From what I see with FGC so far, the Langstroth hives seem to be best for people who only want to check their bees every couple months, or if you have limited space for bees.

  • @Bromon655

    I agree about the ceramic hives. Harvesting and rebuilding skeps is one of the most tedious aspects of the game for me. Skeps are primitive and should be an early-game item only.

    This video perfectly illustrates something I've come to realize after 60+ hours in VS: a key part of the game loop is looking/walking away from the game. I often have a book beside me so I can read while I wait out the night or a temporal storm. I don't know if this is intentional and I don't know if I like it or not. I'm still playing and enjoying VS, so I definitely don't hate it.

  • @Kurazarrh

    I find that most of the time, there's ALWAYS something to do. When I'm waiting for 20 ingots' worth of ore to smelt in a crucible, that's like 8 minutes of time I can spend catching up on other things in-game: meal prep, milking the sheep/goats, feeding the chickens, harvesting or replanting crops, and so on (or staying near the crucible and forging more tools or plates!). The only time I generally have nothing else to do is panning lots of blocks at once. Then I'll mentally check out and just watch TV while I pan. If you haven't seen the Desert Life series I'm doing now, you could check that out and see what I've started doing during temporal storms. They've become a lot more exciting and interesting now that I've changed tactics!

    Bit of a strange question I know, but how did you find the transition from QWERTY to Dvorak? (assuming you started with qwerty like most of us did) I've been considering trying it out myself but it looks a little intimidating! Thanks for the great VS content.

  • @Kurazarrh
    @Kurazarrh2 күн бұрын

    I did start on QWERTY, and the reason I switched was because my left hand was starting to feel the strain (that layout is very heavy on the left hand). Anyway, at the time I switched, I was doing a lot of writing, as well as transcribing some old notes and stories I had written on paper in order to have a digital copy. I went absolutely cold-turkey. Switched all my computers to Dvorak and didn't allow myself to fall back on QWERTY. It took about 2 weeks before I was mostly able to type without looking at my hands again; 4 weeks until I was back up to my original typing speed, and by 6-8 weeks, I was actually typing faster than I ever had on QWERTY. So I absolutely recommend it, especially if you're having any hand/finger/wrist strain, arthritis, or carpal tunnel. Also it's great for really annoying everyone else who tries to use your computer! ;)

    Why not fire both SRMs on your TT brawler at once? Even if not linked, switching between the two rapidly would double your burst DPS with them. I've seen a couple situations in the past few battles where that little bit of extra punch would have helped a lot. Also, on your LP brawler, you might want to switch the SRMs to autofire if you arent going to manually control them. That way they can act as PD to shoot down fighters and give chip damage to shields and unshielded ships. Really enjoying the series so far!

  • @Kurazarrh
    @Kurazarrh2 күн бұрын

    You'll find with missiles, I tend to use them somewhat conservatively. XD In any game with limited resources, I tend to hoard them until I HAVE to use them, unless it's "limited" resource with a large pool. As for autofire on the SRMs, I find that they pretty much just always shoot as soon as they're in range (which IS what autofire does, but still), so they end up often on cooldown when I need them for PD duty. =/

    Can you do tempest only swarm for maximum beehiveception ?

  • @Kurazarrh
    @Kurazarrh3 күн бұрын

    Tempests are kind of funny in that regard. They're excellent ships in the early to mid-game, but they fall off HARD in the late game. You can extend their lifespan by building them for capacity and defense, but then you lose out on their strike capabilities. I think one of the weaknesses of the Tempest is that the AI is way too liberal in dumping their Terminator Drones into the enemy at the first chance they get. Which is a shame because the drones do three huge things: 1) they are a source of flux-less IR pulse lasers; 2) they are a source of flux-free PD lasers; 3) they can armor tank for the Tempest. AI pilots like to just turn them into so-so missiles and slam them into enemy shields as soon as they can. If Tempest pilot AI was adjusted to only dump the drones when enemy shields were overloaded, I think they'd be a lot more useful into the late-game. As a player ship, the can hold up okay into the late game, but again, you have to (re)build for defense over offense.

    Awe, "Meteorite" labels and not "Meaty Ore"... xD Also you should dig down around the center of the impact sites and around the edges a bit. I have found that many of the Meteorites are in 2 clumps, one usually smaller fracture clumo up at the surface and another clump slightly below. Ages ago i had commented that i was mad that you were getting like 6-12 ore blocks per meteorite site where i was lucky if i was getting 3 to 5 ore blocks. I went back like a week later and dug out the suavite and found even more ore blocks just a bit deeper/off to the side of the small cluster i had found previously.

    I think it would be really cool if you added some slate or other very dark stone to represent "metal slag" around the anvil of the Helve Hammer setup. As if it was a bunch of soot, slag and scrap chips from the smithing process scattered all around the anvil and maybe some densely covered areas nearer the helve hammer rigs and less in the opening you walk into, as if you did a ton of smithing but your repeated walking has cleared a path through the debris.

    I do remember, actually! ;) There is a way to acquire glass before having a bloomery (and even before obtaining a pickaxe!). The quartz you can find sitting on the ground, when you pick it up, has something like a 25% chance of being "clear quartz". Combine 2 clear quartz in the crafting grid with sticks arranged above, below, and on either side of it to get a "clear quartz glass block." It's a bit foggy, but it works well for basic windows!

    I use neutrino detector often and it can be really good at checking systems than normal scan burst. It has all the range and will always detect stuff like research stations and habitats. My tip to using it effectively is to check for pulses around landmarks or in direction of asteroid belts and whatnot (aka no fishing in the empty space). Perhaps as a way to introduce a more balanced seed system into the game, seeds could be very prolific but saplings have a chance of dying, similar to fruit trees? In that way you’d be able to harvest a realistic amount of seeds from trees but you wouldn’t be able to cheese the game by growing an entire forest’s worth of wood in one go.

  • @Kurazarrh
    @Kurazarrh3 күн бұрын

    I've had someone else suggest having saplings having a chance to die, but from a game perspective, I don't like it. It would make getting wood an absolute chore in a game that already makes everything into a chore! lol Given just how much wood the player needs, I don't see the current wood output to be "cheesing" it, even if the amount of wood we receive is unrealistically large--because the amount of wood we use is equally unrealistic.

  • @Kurazarrh

  • @Kurazarrh
    @Kurazarrh3 күн бұрын

    Both places are generally difficult to find food, but deserts are a little more generous, since the cacti can have fruit, and gazelles and hyenas provide plenty of meat. Arctic/antarctic areas are kind of ... not really ready for regular play outside of extreme challenge. It's MUCH more difficult to survive, since you won't overheat in the desert, but you can certainly freeze in the arctic. Growing crops is much more difficult in cold weather than hot, unless you enable underground farming (which makes cold survival kind of a cinch then). The "challenge" in this series is less of a survival one and more of a thematic one! ;)
