    I love your video, I recently found my original shuttle that I got brand new when I was a kid. The part of your video at around 5min mark discussing the front guns. Mine are the longer barrels guns but no holes in the ends and you said the originals were a bit longer with holes in the barrels. I've owned mine since new from 84 .

    that came out fantastic. :) it's as if kenner never considered that these things would be played with given how cheap the plastic is. sure, i know it saved them money, but even the design sometimes didn't seem to take prolonged stress from heat and weight into consideration. i'd love to see a motorized wing mod. get on that, yeah? :)

    Beautiful word, David. That is one of my favorite ships from the saga, and it looks great with your new stickers applied. It's a bit sad that, like you said, this is a quite fragile toy, especially the fin being so wobbly, which doesn't make it much playable. But still does look great as a displayable model.

    This has been so helpful as I have just bought and found a complete shuttle and wonderful excellent condition with instructions and a beautiful box and unapplied stickers with the sticker sheet however it does have some of that discoloration to the plastic. The only issue throughout the entire project is to work on the outer discoloration unlike what you have in the video it's more of a mud or yellowing. If you have any advice on bleaching or ideas on about 40 to 50% of the ship please let me know if you have the time and I've subscribed as you're a terrific source and once again I thank you! Very helpful video, especially the tip for getting the dorsal wing off without shattering it. Wouldn't it have been a good idea to have cleaned it before putting it back together? I got mine in the mid nineties boxed and complete, except for one of the fixed front guns. Luckily, I found one on Ebay, so now I don't have to stress about it being incomplete! It's always something minor that bothers you the most! Thanks again.

    Re-watching this, I would have used Plastic Weld to repair the main fin, and used 'Mr Hobby liquid putty' for the outer seam. I'm always wary about using cyanoacrylate glue on large areas - it works best in tiny amounts where it is trapped between two surfaces; indeed, that's how CA glue works - the exclusion of air causes the reaction to bond to occur. It does become brittle over time, too, which is why I would always use a plastic welding agent, where the repair is as strong as the surrounding plastic, and on these toys which were made of high-impact polystyrene, acrylic, and ABS plastics, that's a good strong fix that you don't have to worry about after it's done.

  • @toypolloi

    @toypolloi

    I might have used plastic weld as well. But this worked just fine. The ships was pretty beaten up to start with, so it's never going to be a mint item. Just fun to own.

    Hello toypollio, What do you think about, if you produce the Cockpit window, when you use a fan to bring the form back from the window? Cut out clear plastic and using hot air to bring that in form? Hope you unterstand my question. Greetings froh Germany Thomas I like your Videos, they are great for restoration 👍

  • @D2SProductions
    @D2SProductions3 жыл бұрын

    Why not use Plastruct Plastic Weld? In case you don't know what it is, you can find it at most hobby stores it's a chemical that melts plastic to fuse it to adjoining pieces of plastic. Personally I would've taking that dorsal wing apart, and fixed all of those cracks with Plastruct, then either glue it back together or use Plastruct to fuse it back together. I'd be tempted to pull that bent side wings apart and restraighten the bent wing one piece at a time using a flat surface and a heat gun, then Plastruct it back together once it's straightened out. The cockpit windshield should be darker, but that's not a bad temporary fix.

    For making the cockpit glass flush, have you ever considered LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive)? It’ll bind plastic to itself, so I’d imagine would be usable in an application such as this. You could then glue two layers of the plastic together to give you that extra depth you’re looking for. Also, if it’s not crystal clear (it should be close, but I imagine there’d be some loss in clarity) it might get you closer to the original, not to mention looking potentially a bit more vintage.

    Toy Polloi I’ve only ever heard about it from the handheld modding community. I’ve seen it used on GameBoy Colors to add a front light to them. Just thought it might be useful for some of your restoration projects. Might be fiddly considering the curvature of the cockpit, but nothing ventured nothing gained, as they say.

    Hi, does anyone have any advice for storing loose star wars action figures? There are about a thousand figures in closed plastic tubs in my loft, each figure individually wrapped in toilet tissue. I suppose my real question is, will the toilet tissue affect the plastic of the figures over time. Also, there are a number of star wars vehicles, covered with black bin bags, are bin bags likely to have a negative affect on the plastic over the long term? Hope someone can advise and thanks very much in advance for your time.

    I do agree though, it's always a more complete review once the electronics are used, even if they are the same. Even if it's the same as previous ships, it's cool to hear how it sounds inside each individual ship. Some sound different just because of how much plastic they are surrounded by. It's rare to ever hear the electronics function on any of these, so it's fun for us that have never gotten a chance to hear it in action.
