That style of mower brings back so many childhood memories. That's the very first mower I had ever used. But mine wasn't gas-powered. It's was me powered. Lol

How a video like this only has 242,000 views while your restorations of some old cast iron pans have over 1,000,000 is amazing to me. This restoration was complicated and came out beautifully. Meanwhile, the pan videos were super basic and easy. Oh well, goes to show you never know what people are going to want to watch.

Great job!! Reminds me of the old Scott Bonnar mower my parents had years ago. I rebuilt the engine, replaced bearings, soaked the chains, then my brother used it. He wasn't prepared for what happened next. He gave it full throttle, & it got away from him. It ended up getting caught up in the fence. Very funny to watch, as a self propelled mower was moving across the yard, with my brother in "hot" pursuit!!

Excellent restoration of a wonderful vintage mower. It's a survivor because it's made of thick steel. If it were plastic, it wouldn't be around. It's good it is self propelled. I'm sure it's a heavy piece of equipment. Great video.

I like the construction of the engine, where the gas tank is used as carberutor tank, meaning no float or needle valve is needed, it just sucks the gas fram the tank directly than going via a intermediate carberutor cup. That greatly simplifies carbeturtor design.

Great Video !!! Now. Where to start. First, the editing job is outstanding. Cut through the work load, but show every single important part. and then...... I think I would have been up for and done similarly as you on the engine. But before I watched this, I would not have even tried to restore that cutter head and frame. I might now, as you make things look easy. I still wonder, in real time, how long did this take, not counting waiting for parts that you may have had to order. Well done on the cleanup, and I liked how it turned out. I did not see any evidence that the upper cylinder damage is causing any problems at all. Probably all above the rings so it really doesn't effect the seal of the cylinder / piston. Only thing I would have done is sharpen those spiral blades, although I will freely admit, I doubt I could have gotten them sharp as I have issues sharpening even straight edged tools. Keep it up, I like to see how these kinds of things come apart. Also, nice to see real substantial steel and hefty sturdy castings of aluminum as this mower has. Much better than anything bought from China as there is no real substance behind those new ones.

Great restoration on a fantastic piece of mowing history. I am curious why you lapped the valves after putting the piston in. Personally I would have done it before, and then cleaned the block to ensure none of the grit got near the bore. I'm only nit picking so don't mind me. Either way I have subscribed. Looking forward to more amazing resto's!

Great job, however noticed some crunch when installing the valves, just before lapping. Make certain no compound makes it to the stem/guide, it'll quickly scuff and then quickly ruin the guide and you'll potentially run into issues after some hrs. The thinnest smear you can get on the seat, oil the stem and be particular. Otherwise great job

@@AJRestoration What I've done with some vintage reel mowers, is take wheels from a standard push mower, with the plastic rims, remove the rubber, and use 3M glue to attach them. Sometimes I have to grind some of the shoulder of the rubber, but other then that, it works great. Just have to get tire that's about the correct size, so it fits snug. The modern plastic wheels range from about 4" to 20", so just need to get one that close, and with a nice tread type. Some mowers you can still get the rubber, but for many of the mowers I've restored over the years, this has been the best way I've found. Also keep in mind, that not all plastic rims tires mount the same. You need to use the type were the rubber locks around the rim, not in the rim for yours.

That clutch has got to be backwards, right? I've never seen one with an idler that "pulls" into gear and at the same time, reduces belt/pulley surface contact. Would make so much more sense for it to push down on the belt, wrapping it further around the drive pulley. I'm probably wrong, but it just seems so awkward haha.
