11:28 18:35 many of you may not know this, but this is the seldom seen second footage of the experimental LNER W1 No.10000 (at the time this was filmed, she was rebuilt into a A4 Styled engine). Her tender survived into preservation with LNER A4 60009 Union Of South Africa. 60009’s tender shows some modifications to its front, these are very small modifications, but they do tell the origin of the tender. No.10000 was the only Hudson built in Britain, no other 4-6-4’s were built ever. The rebuilt W1, was scrapped at Doncaster in 1959 by British Railways, however her tender (No.5484) was kept and eventually was coupled to its current engine: A4 No.60009, which was preserved.
Averaging 70mph with 15 bogeys on the Scotch Express, that’s heavy duty Doc!

The Doncaster built A4’s were more than capable of hauling a rake of 15 coaches at speed. An example of this would be when A4 No.4901 hauled 21 coaches on level track at a speed of 75.9MPH for 20+ miles.
Excellent! Tough work for everyone working on the road.
As always a great trip back in time! Always enjoy viewing them. Thank you! 🇬🇧🙂👍🇺🇸
thanks for sharing.
Was hoping to see more of Mildenhall.
Some of the locomotives looks like Thomas and friends and we see a troublesome truck also , this is awesome
Great Northern being "rebuilt" in the Plant. I saw this engine twice decades ago but the W1 only once.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to see the rebuilt W1 4-6-4, but have fond memories of the A1, A2, A3, A4 and the other locos at Grantham, before the diesels took over.
I note the Thopson Pacific at 17.37. It is a rebuild of Gresleys very first Pacific Great Northern built in 1922.
Caractacus Potts built his railway to in the kitchen is this a novelty to build railways in kitchen
Wow
I wonder how many lines would be reinstated now suburbs have filled in the gaps between the towns and the roads have filled with cars.
Anyone got any footage of steam on the London tilbury and Southend line?
Nice You don't see the Scottish side at all besides lms or Scotsman
So sad all these lines closed seems like such shortsightedness but what do I know I'm sure someone will enlighten me 😂
