It's not about the value of the cards themselves. It's because these unopened packs will become very scarce as the decades roll on. They'll become more rare and collectable even if the individual cards inside aren't powerful anymore. It's like many other collectables... in the box, and unsullied, it's worth something. Open it, and that value is lost.

Anyways, he was use Thornwield Archer and equip it with Viridian Longbow. Then untap it with another card that I forget. I couldn’t get anything to stick on the board and he would just overwhelm me with a 1/1 army that were made from Lorwynn elves. Boosted by various other lords.

The worst part is that you shouldn't even be at a disadvantage regardless of when you decide to pick up the game. MTG just has the most horrendous reprint policy of any card game on the market, and it does absolutely nothing but disincentivize new players. If they actually reprinted cards frequently and reasonable quantities it wouldn't matter that you don't have $600 reserved list cards.

  • @lambdaman256

@@MoronicChunk1 Yep, I could have played during Champions of Kamigawa earliest, I would have been able to get all the cool cards that are now expensive in Modern long ago. Even Legacy staples weren't too much back then if I remember right. Preventing people from playing the game because of the LIE that is the Reserved List is just silly and ridiculous, and doesn't even mean anything these days - Modern staples will, and have been losing value this entire time, and you don't see me and every other Modern player suing WOTC over it. So the list doesn't really give anyone any incentive or consumer confidence their newer cards are going to hold value, because at any moment there can be Triple Masters reprinting my Cavern of Souls into the ground.

This video stands as a REAL LIFE EXAMPLE of what the Prof always has stated, and it shows here in it's purest form! Literally what.....roughly $300+/- total these would have cost someone at present day, only to then get at most maybe $10 bucks in value of cards. Had he pulled a "Cradle" or something like that, then would maybe be a bit harder not to claim for others their best bet is to buy singles, but this shows what more than thr latter, would happen to most in the same situation! So THANK YOU Professor, for helping to clearly show ......what you always preach and holds true the vast majority of the time. Great video, let his financial detriment here, help by LEADING BY EXAMPLE all of us collectors, fans, and players abound. :-)

Always good to hammer home the point that buying singles is more useful to you than cracking packs/boxes. But damn it’s fun to crack packs!

I hope you see this. I am a Wildland Fire fighter and I am currently quarantine in a hotel room for the next 11 days. I found your channel 3 days ago and have been marathoning through the content. I mainly a Yu-Gi-Oh player and have only been playing magic off and on throughout the years. I’ve made a shadow barn deck which I’ve given to my daughter and my main deck up until now was a elephant deck. The main thing that drew me back to Magic is the Godzilla cards. Eventually it will become a commander deck but right now it is a 70 card modern deck. I’ve spent more money then I’d like to admit especially on the secret layer lands but I am very happy that Magic did some thing like this. And if anything the Godzilla cards Drew me back into the game. Keep up the great work and maybe you can help me deck doctor this deck. have a great day
