Vintage MOTU Zodac's Cosmic Chair custom - Toy Polloi

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I recently asked my Patreons and KZread channel members for ideas of what I could do with a few broken Castle Grayskull thrones that I had in a box. The top suggestion was to turn one in to Zodac's Cosmic chair from the cartoon series which I thought was a great idea.
So in this video I take the remains of one of those thrones, some styrene, a few bits of Lego and see what I can make.

"Bloody Brilliant mate!". I can totally see this as something Mattel would have/should have brought out in the 80's. Once again the K.I.S.S principal is the best method. Keep up the great work.

This is the sort of custom toy I'd happily buy from an online seller. One that looks every bit as good as the original toys but taken just slightly further.

This is a remarkable customization. I always had a feeling that this Zodac character was heavily inspired by the Jack Kirby's "Metron", of the New Gods. Metron also had a "cosmic chair". Other characters in Masters first waves, where I surmise an influence from Kirby's earlier work, are Merman and Man-e-faces.

i've only few masters accessories beside the figures, never liked so much them back in time as kid. This? this is something i've could bought in a millisecond as kid. i can already imagine it as deluxe pack with Zodac on shelf in stores. AMAZING, as usual.

I love it!! I really enjoy watching you fabricate pieces from styrine! If you ever do another chair like this, might I recommend that you create a few custom decals? I think that adding some decals would cement it into the look of the vintage MOTU toys even more! You're such a whiz at recreating and creating decals, that would be extra fun to see! As always, you've done a dynamite job of taking something old and broken, and giving it new life! That chair makes for a fun Zodac display!

This looks absolutely phenomenal. Ironically enough. I've been thinking about doing this myself for a while. I had been waiting to come across a throne that was sorta damaged, but not to much. I don't like taking perfectly good toy parts and modifying them. I like to use ones that are already broken. Like you do. Just did receive the one in the mail I got off of eBay the other day for $3.00. hadn't had a chance to start it yet. You read my mind the way you did this one. The Only real difference was I planned to make the rocket rails a slightly larger diameter. Simply to match the styrene tubing I already have. I'll have to send you a picture of mine when finished. I also thought about using some glow in the dark paint to accent some of the details. Should look pretty cool. As always Dave thank you for all you do. I absolutely love this style of video. I'm all about the construction, or reconstruction of pieces and parts. Original or some kind of cool custom. Thanks again Dave. Looking forward to your next video, and receiving this year's annual. I'm still reading the last one. Lol I'm sure this one won't disappoint either.

Great video!!! Just to throw out another idea using a broken throne... The character of Zodac is a riff on a Jack Kirby created character from the New Gods universe, Metron and his Mobius chair. Perhaps from some broken MOTU figures and a broken Grayskull throne, you could create a custom Metron figure and Mobius chair to display with your new Zodac chair and figure, a bit like a family gathering. Keep up the great work!

Wow, that turned out great! As a kid I snapped the throne off of the Castle Grayskull on accident just to make a flying Zodak throne so it's neat that you did that :D (edit) Taking the throne off the base was NOT an accident but snapping the peg off of the bottom of the throne was :D (edit 2) I feel like to make it something like what you might see as a vintage toy it could use a sticker on the back of the chair. Not that you can see a sticker anyway with Zodak sitting in it.

Well done, Dave. However this further illustrates how much Mattel/Filmation aped Kirby’s Fourth World with many of their MOTU concepts. The Cosmic Chair is a shameless rip-off of Metron’s Mobius Chair. Hey I love MOTU as much as anyone but credit where credit is due.
