Vintage Mego Captain America repair - Toy Polloi
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
What's Captain America without his shield? A guy wearing and odd jumpsuit? This vintage Mego Captain America needed some help to get him back in a displayable state. A new leg, and a new sticker on his shield, plus a bit of cleaning and tlc and he is ready to rock and roll again.

Dave painstakingly restoring a Captain America figure: "I can do this all day!"
The toothbrush gag with your wife was hilarious 💜😅🤣
Mego restorations always seem so satisfying to watch. There's something so adorable about hand laundering a small jumpsuit that really makes the repairs fully complete.
Awesome! I had a Mego Captain America, Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman. Back then, we kids didn’t pay much attention to Marvel vs DC. All those heroes went together well. And….they are NOT “dolls”! They’re action figures!!!!!😉
Great job on the Captain America figure
I'm mexican, so we have those here and after getting hook into the vintage toys by you, I went to check on my old toys and I found a Knock off of this captain, a mexican knock off version, it isn't too bad like others I saw back in those days... man those bring old memories back

Totally real shield. Quick story: I bought 5 Caps from a woman who had them since the 70s, her brother kept trashing them and replacing them lol
My original cap from when I was a kid has a black shield and the star is cloth
@TroyPacelli

Yeah, my original was black shield base, too. And a softer plastic (you can hear when he puts the shield down the harder texture). Despite what people told him, I'd bet real money that's a repro shield. Either way, his sticker application looks FAR AND AWAY better than the original!

Captain America is my favorite superhero despite what my channel name happens to be. Any respect paid to the Captain, I commend.
Nice.
Great bit of subtle comedy at 4.07, and a rare cameo appearance from Mrs. Toy Polloi! 😀
Hey Dave Loved the video. Had a Mego Captain America when I was a kid so it brought back a lot of great memories.
Now do the "upgrade" Cap with white sleeves, red gloves and pirate boots! Maybe black belt...
Excellent job as usual! :)
Man his eyes.......what has the poor soul witnessed over the years?
Lol. I love it!
Beautiful figure!
Always wondered why this figure never got those Mego weird-shaped red vinyl gloves. Cap probably wouldn't be able to hold his shield if he had those gloves. They certainly would've finished off the figure better. Mego could've outfitted him with blue shorts and the yellow plastic Robin belt too. Great fix as always, Dave! :)
This video came at a great time I just started a restore on a capt America mego!! Keep up the fantastic work
I remember these when I was a kid, everyone had them.
Great restoration, Dave! That is one of the best looking, loose Mego Captain America figures, that I have seen, even before you worked your magic on it! 😁 Interestingly, I do believe my original Mego Captain America shield ( now lost to time ) was made from black plastic!
Cap was the 2nd Mego I ever got. Mine did have a Black Plastic sheild and I always wondered why the sticker was so wrinkled in places. That now explains it! Yes Glossy sticker does look better than the original. I did think he had a belt though? But as with the Shield they may have changed the figure over time. He looks great though.

Pretty sure I had this in the 70s
great restore as usual man

@@toypolloi glad to had been the 1st, i was shocked to not had seen it, i watch all your videos, esp mego fixes and i needed that cap shield sticker, so double bonus
Great restore! That shield bothered me, though - the pictures of it all wrinkled, looked awful. I would be sorely tempted to create a mask, and paint it on. It would not be original, but it would look a whole lot better. Even a waterslide decal would be better. It's the sort of thing that would have annoyed me even as a kid. The rest looks great - the head is a Jack Kirby image made real - but let down by the sticker on the shield. It'd be tampo printed nowadays, of course.
Brilliant work Dave - could watch you do these all day - I’d love to learn how to use Photoshop too!👍👍

Your shield sticker is too good! try again with your eyes closed 😝 ...I can’t believe they actually sold them with all those wrinkles 😣
wow
I never knew captain America wore a onesie.
Dave,. I see the knee pin is still intact. You always try to save the original parts whenever possible. I respect that. I know you have a method of taking the joined knee pin and warming the knee holes to pop the joined knee pin into place. Seen the video. I've tried it and it doesn't work well for me. Even in your video, the knee looked a little rough after you were able to complete the repair. What I do is take the joined knee pin, cut away the female part and remove the intact pin. I then use an empty female piece from another broken knee joint where the pin snapped off inside the female section. It's pretty easy to pop out the broken remnant of the pin. With the two, you've got a complete, vintage knee pin and female piece that can be joined together to complete a leg. Have you ever tried doing it that way to fix a knee?
@toypolloi

I use many methods, I think I've shown most in various videos. I have no preference, just depends what parts I have to hand. Your way requires two good sets of pins which I often don't have.
@Steve-wo7gt

@@toypolloi I know you employ multiple methods. I've got nothing but respect for you. I was just curious if you have ever used *that* particular method. Keep up the great work!
I was always curious why did the Captain America mego doll not have half white sleeves or his red gloves. ?
Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement shield for the 8” Captain America Mego figure?
I'm fairly certain all original Cap chest emblem stickers were made of cloth material.

Early versions.were fabric, later issues had paper. This is a later issue figure.

@@toypolloi here is an excerpt for Ben Holcomb's book on the Cap emblem. "There are two distinct variations for Captain America's emblem, and both are made from cloth, not paper. Initially, the emblem was a soft felt material. Known as the "felt" star. Mego used a weak adhesive, often resulting in detachment. The emblem material remained unchanged until around 1978. Later issued type 2 figures feature a relatively thin fabric. These stickers have a glossy finish and a subtle waffle pattern. The majority of these emblems are found on the 1979 cards, but they were introduced while the 1975 cards were still in production. "
