The HISTORY of these lenses is in part why I find them so interesting. VINTAGE LENS FILES is a segment i've included in some of the relevant lens reviews i've done, but figured I might as well package them as their own little snippet. It's my version of youtube #shorts only not portrait mode and slightly longer than 60 seconds.

Couldn’t click on this fast enough. Not enough i formation of explanation about the whole Rokkor line up so I’m genuinely enjoying this series. Actually in the process of putting some stuff together with a few lenses but I love how you broke down the history .. very informative!! Keep em coming !!

Ya I’ve got a few reviews on the channel; this was just a broken out history beat. It’s a bit of a format test than anything. These take forever to produce 😆

I own an X500 and the 50mm F1.7 that was sold with it. I have to say it's so good, the lens is quite lightwheight and still has great build quality ! Sadly these MD lenses have quite a short flange focal distance and I can't really use it mon my modern A-mount Sony (except for very close-up). That fast aperture came in handy a couple of time, even with 400iso film

It’s not vertical format though. And the algo hates content that’s not selling you stuff 😆 or it just doesn’t like me. I was testing them out as sort of shorts but, not sure the vertical format kills it with these.

Rokkor 35-70mm f 3.5! This lens has a compensating diaphragm. In essence it's actually at 35mm f 1.75. Just to maintain a constant f 3.5 aperture, the inner mechanism closes the diaphragm to f 3.5 via a slightly slanted pin. There is an another Rokkor, 24mm f2.8 VFC. A joy to use. Even in the auto focus areas of later models such as xi series, eye auto focus was a first. Hold the xi camera, the meter turns on automatically. This series had auto-zooming functions too with xi lenses. Xi series cameras had special cards (like SD cards) programmed for specific scenes, like portraits, landscape, night, sports etc. A pioneer in many technologies. Minolta supplied focusing screens to Leica and other camera brands.

In 1965 I bought a Minolta SR7 with 35mm 58mm and 135mm lenses all in a nice carry case in Yokosuka Japan at the Navy Exchange for $200 which was really lot of money for a sailor and couple months pay! I used the camera for years after and still have a lot of slides taken with it I even shot most of the photos in my ship's 1965 66 cruise book. It was a wonderful camera. Today I shoot with a Fuji XT 20 and love to used vintage Minolta lenses on it to get pretty much the same experience.
