Vintage Go Kart rebuild
Just a quick side project for my nephew’s 7th birthday! It’s a Rupp Dart Kart from somewhere around the late 60’s. New paint, new tires, and a tune up.

Man you took a twin engine vintage kart and cut it's balls off. I hope you kept all the original parts. I won't thumbs down the video because I completely respect the fact you got another driver started. The joy I had when I got my first go-kart will never be replaced

I hear you, I’m all about keeping vintage original. I bought the kart as you see it in the beginning of the video, so the only parts I changed were the rear wheels and tires. I’d love to convert it back to twin engine in the future, but somewhere along the way someone changed the brake setup so I’ll have to move it to make room for the second motor. Looks like it originally had a scrub brake. Agreed, though, it’s all about bringing the next generation into the hobby.
These vintage go karts are so simple yet cool looking. Looks like your kid is having fun on it.

Definitely, I love the simplicity of these things. This one was for my nephew, and this spring I’m going to put a torque converter on it for him. The centrifugal clutch just doesn’t cut it on small hills.

@@misterts7635 the torque converter will do you wonders. I build a go kart back when I was 16… used a 5.5hp with a comet 30 series… no problem spinning tires and would do 50mph… much better than with just a centrifugal clutch
I got Grand Prix # 268. It's a '62 1/2 with a single plate and all the OEM trimmings including the later years bumpers. Awesome project.

Nice! What’s the plan for it? Rebuild project?
Very cool! Love seeing your son enjoying the kart. BTW, that's actually a 1960 GoKart 800- one of the best karts of it's day. It does have the Rupp wheels though.

Thanks for the info! That’s actually my nephew cruising around at the end- I rebuilt it for his birthday. My kids are still a bit too young to ride their own, but their time will come! What helped you to identify the difference between the dart kart and the 800?

@@misterts7635 The engine mount plates, the way the frame cants out in the seat area, the posi stop brake- all unique to the 800 The main frame rail is actually one tube from the front axle all the way around.. Both the Dart and the GoKart are great karts
thats a nice kart lol

Those Rupp REAR wheels with spacers are very valuable... hope ya didn't pitch them??
Sweet, I forgot how much you bounce around on them, I had 2 when I was little.

No thanks. I built it for my nephew and I don’t think he’d be very happy with me if I took it back!
