Vintage Gadget: Let’s Test a 1960’s Presto Hot Dogger
Hello Vintage Neighbors! It's time to test another vintage gadget!! Today we are testing out a 1960's Presto Hot Dogger. Thanks so much to a vintage neighbor for sending it my way! Let’s see if the Hot Doggers claims are true. Can it really cook 6 hot dogs in 60 seconds??

My great uncle was the inventor of that and many other things at Presto and for creating that he got a bonus big enough to buy a new Buick.

I don’t think you can imagine how excited I was to see your video! So much fun! I’m so grateful you’re back! I love a barbecued hot dog! However, in the 50’s I consumed many a boiled one, that’s how it rolled!😊

My parents had a Presto skillet back in the 80s…I knew that logo looks familiar! Lots of meals from that! ❤

Haha that’s fair!
I slit them down the middle and fry them up with a little butter in a stove top fry pan. A little mustard with sauerkraut or Boarshead red onion sauce (like the hot dog vendors) makes them juicy and tasty. I buy the not preserved, nitrate free Angus beef ones so I don’t have to feel guilt!

My grandmother had one of those and used it only when we kids came over. Otherwise, I don’t think she ate hotdogs. My sister still has her Salton Yogurt Maker and I have and use The Buttoneer, a device to attach buttons to clothes. It’s basically a piercing gun for those plastic price tags used in cheap discount stores. It does do a great job keeping buttons on thick material like woolen coats and upholstery.
Thank you for sharing. So interesting to learn what they had back then.

Name it 'Ol' Sparky'! My favorite way to cook a hotdog is over an open flame. There's just something about that wood smoke and char. :)
I really miss your vintage stove and kitchen in your old house😢

Grew up in the '60's but as a Southern girl, we just fried our hotdogs. Like we fried our bologna. In a frying pan. But I love watching you do these vintage appliance videos.

I remember the first time I ate an electrocuted hot dog😂 my great aunt from Reno Nevada brought one to the Ozarks when visiting our family. She was so excited to cook for us. It was a good hot dog. I think I was ten years old. Great memories. Thanks again Laci for keeping that era alive.
JAWS hotdogs. This was great! I love all those old gadgets. My mother never had any of those gadgets and I loved watching the commercials for Presto, Ronco and Popiel. I always wished we had some.
That was so fun. I was scared for you to plug it in. I was fearful it would explode or something! lol 😂 I’m so glad you’re back. ❤
As an electrician I can see that the hot dogs are just completing a circuit do you have a neutral on one side and a positive on the other and the hot dog bridges it you’re basically electrocuting it to death. That is the most fascinating thing I’ve ever saw in my life🎉😮

My mom used to make hotdogs for my brother and I and we LOVED watching it, and we soon were making our own at about age 10. No problem! Such a great memory.❤
My parents had one. This was before we got a microwave. It does cook them, however, the taste is nasty. The wiener ends up with an electrical, metallic taste. I remember even the condiments couldn't cover up that nasty taste. Johnny Cash knows what I'm talking about. Still, pretty cool to get an unused in the box example. Good seeing you again Laci.

@@Ellenslife851 In the fifties when l was young and through the sixties here in Canada, mustard, ketchup and relish were common. A burger from McDonald's came with little packets of those condiments. Now l eat veggie dogs with sauerkraut and mayo. I don't know anyone else who does. I wonder what combos other people might eat. It is interesting to think about.

@@heidibee501 that’s cool yay maybe it was just a us thing back then and my grandpa only ate ketchup as sauce on his burger I’m very much the same
I made one using coat hangers without paint and an electric chord and plug. The hotdogs are variable resisters, when the steam ceases the resistance reduces so they won't overcook.

My mom used to put hot dogs in her potato soup. Not one of my favs. She also used to dunk her hotdog, bun and all, in hot tea. She was a tea drinker. My favorite hot dogs were from a place called the Stop Lunch (in the 60’s 70’s) they called them Texas hot wieners. They had mustard, diced onion with salt on them and a kind of meat chili. Man I could eat one of those right now! Thanks for the memories Laci. So nice to see you back! Happy New Year.

My SIL found one of these for me but it freaked me out when the reviews said the hot dog tasted metallic after it cooked, so I gave it away. Now in the '70s we had a Coney Island hot dog steamer I've been looking for forever. You added water to the base and while the hot dog cooked it steamed the bun on top. So delicious.
I got married in 1966, I seem to remember having one of these! I don’t know what happened to it. With 4 kids, I know I used it for quick lunches.
I still have my mom's single cooker from the 70s but it was made by Sunbeam. She loved "weenies" as she called me It still works! Love these videos
What a delightful little video to watch while painting my nails.
I worked with a lady who told me her mom had every "as seen on tv" gadgets - most of them still in the box!

This is so cool! I love hotdogs and this is a cool vintage piece of hotdog history. 😊
Microwave's are faster nowadays, but that cooker was pretty darn fast for the day!
I used to run a consignment shop and we got one of these in and it was so neat but at the same time scary because it's just electrocuting a hot dog to fix it LOL Used to have so much neat stuff come in and before that I sold antiques on Ebay and learned so much. I just think they made things so much better back then, even the things from the early 1980s were made better and lasted longer. I think there's a lot of us, that if we could or if Time Machines ever became a thing that might runaway to the past and be much happier.
A student unexpectedly brought his DIY hot dog maker, similar to this one, to our school science fair. After his demo, we asked his parents to take it home so kids wouldn’t electrocute themselves.
