My little grandson was climbing all over my couch pretending to be Spiderman while I watched this video. He looked up, saw you on the tv, and froze. He said "Princess! Look! Princess, Nana!". Then he went back to jumping off of the back of my couch. For a few seconds though you managed to mesmerize a 3 year old Spiderman. 😊

The first time I dressed vintage was my senior year in HS where I dressed as if it was 1958. I never felt so confident in my life and I never looked back since. Keep being YOU Laci!

My cousin (b 1958, just to give you some idea of his era) went to his high school grad wearing a leisure suit as one did in those days. 😆 Many decades later, his son wore the same leisure suit to his grad. I thought it was great!
Some of your high school photos, you actually look like a 70s girl. Late-60s through 70s. Kinda hippie. You're an 80s baby that looked 70s in the 90s. Then 50s girl by the 2010s. You're the best time traveler I know.
Wait wait wait!! How can you just skip over American Idol!!?? I wanna hear you sing 😊

The most wonderful thing about vintage fashion is not that it's vintage, rather. that it is fun, and often so beautiful. Your evolution is inspiring, and so much fun to see! Thank you for giving us glimpses of a lovely journey! Blessings!
My daughter collects Strawberry Shortcake too. She has rollerskates, dolls, lunchboxes, salt & pepper shakers and more. She had to ask my husband and his flea market buddy to stop buying stuff for her because she ran out of room. Love the video.
80"s kid here too 🍓❤! I still have my Strawberry Shortcake dolls too 😄. My favorite was at Christmas time. I could always tell if my present was Strawberry Shortcake doll because I could smell the scent through the wrapping paper 😅.

I know right 😱😍😩so GORGEOUS.
Style is always a relative thing. I’ve always been a little jealous of women’s fashion- lots of accessories, many more options. The men’s suit hasn’t changed so much. Lapels get bigger or ties get skinnier but the basic form of it hasn’t changed much. I love the comfort of shorts and a t-shirt but there’s nothing like the thrill of getting a suit made for you specifically or putting on a tailored, made to fit shirt and adding a nice set of cuff links, maybe a vintage tie that looks really cool or (if it’s your thing), finding a vintage butterfly collar shirt or a pastel tuxedo with the ruffled shirts. Style will always be subjective and it always comes back. However, I think we can all agree that polyester is NOT the most comfortable of fabrics! 😂
@IslandMarigold
2 жыл бұрын
100% agree, especially about the polyester. 😂
I began dressing retro at the end of high school. By then, I was curvy and not concerned with “fitting in.” My mom had kept her trousseau and the wonderful pieces became my wardrobe. My fav was a double breasted gray wool suit that had red wine velvet lapels and cuffs. The shoulder pads in the jacket in contrast to the pencil skirt was pure fashion chemistry. My constant trolling of thrift shops for a pair of shoes was rewarded by finding red wine leather sling backs
You were such an adorable little girl, cute adolescent, pretty high-schooler, and beautiful woman! I just love you and your channel!
You look so different from your childhood. You were beautiful through it all! Thank you for taking us through your fashion evolution! You and I have a lot in common fashion-wise.

I dress in gypsy bohemian skirts and peasant blouses along with velvet and satin clothes. I also was a cowgirl and enjoyed wearing my boots and cowboyhat. I have a few Native American pieces that I love! I started when I was 20 and I'm now 58 and never looked back. How I dressed was a huge confidence booster and I think I went for more adventures and took a few risks (the good kind) because of this. You look beautiful as always and it was wonderful to see your evolution of beauty! We gals know how to stay true to ourselves and that is good for the younger generation to see!

*11:53* You auditioned for American Idol? We gotta hear your singing voice! Be cool to watch a 50s vintage girl sing a 70s, 80s, or 90s song. The only one I knew before you who dressed vintage was Dita Von Teese.
I love your style & think you have definitely found yourself. I’m still on the journey & like styles from regency up to 50s. I haven’t pinned down the best one for myself yet. I love you in pale pink. It looks so beautiful on you 💗🌸

It never seized to amaze me how style, specially for women, has gone down the tube in the last 50 or so years. Trading beauty for practicality and blandness. Thanks for the reminder of better times for fashion

Tbh it had went downhill nothing fits right and the fabric quality is atrocious…today’s fashion is like 3 year olds dressing themselves ever since the mini skirt came out these styles never recycled back into today’s fashion. It’s just not “sexy” enough or too “modest.”

alquin- I agree with Laci. Women should feel free to be themselves. Not all women are into fashion. Some of us would rather just be comfortable. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!
@alhaquin

@@elisapelaccia6484 There's no reason why you can't be both comfortable and fashionable. Especially nowadays. As far the comment about not everyone being into fashion, well clearly that's the case, otherwise we'd all be fashion gurus and we wouldn'thave a problem now would we. The issue lies in that there's too much surplus of blandness and decadence now as opposed to then. Standards for beauty have gone down in comparison, objectively, at least in terms of dress code.

@@alhaquin Women are not tree ornaments! Our value should not be determined by how we look. I could care less about looks! In my personal experience people who are preoccupied with their physical appearance are usually not the nicest or the brightest people! LOL We have come a long way, and I have no desire to go backwards. You are probably one of those people who also thinks that women belong in the kitchen! 🙄🤮
In my teens thanks to Grease the movie, I got into 1950's style. Love a good pencil skirt with a twin set and made a lot of my own clothes. We had a 1950's dance at our high school, so I had to make a full circle skirt with petticoat. Have also loved 1920's through to 1970s fashion. I was lucky enough to wear my mom's 1940's clothes, including a tailored suit, was wearing it in the 1980's. Sold all to a vintage store so it would continue to live on. The 1970's style I liked was more boho, hippie style than the paisley and crazy patterns and colours. I love your style Laci.
Sasparilly should make some clothes for men, too. They could do a 1950s-style cardigan with like, Transformers battling He-Man on it. THAT WOULD BE RAD.

Hollywood vintage 50s style really suits you well. You look great! I love your channel. Thanks for sharing your back story.
Your video made me squeal with delight as soon as I saw Strawberry Shortcake on your dress. As some who loves vintage and Strawberry Shortcake this dress is perfect. I don't know if you know it, but a few years back Sanrio did a Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake collection. I figured as someone who also grew up in the 80's you would like that.
That was fun to see. Your videos make me think of my mom. I mean that in the nicest way. She had similar hair. She would have been in her 20s in the 1950s. It's funny; I see some of the things in your home, and I remember having some of the same growing up in the 70s. I'm still struggling to find my own sense of style. I think I'm more drawn to the Mod 60s styles. Though I would love to style my hair like yours some day. I know it can be quite a process.

I was born in the wrong era! Victorian is my style - I once modeled a Victorian dress for a local fashion show (got my picture in the paper, lol) the only reason I got picked was because I was the only one tiny enough to wear it!
There should be more people with your outlook. Although I don't dress in this period of clothing, I do have some cars and a lot of electrical goods from the 1950's and 60's... all items are repairable and rebuildable, so they literally last for many decades - even longer. It keeps reminding us of the bygone era's and what true quality and style means in this grey world. Thanks so much!

Wow, we could be twins! Your vintage evolution mirrored mine, we see that our style tends to be stifled during our Middle School and High School years and finally able to embrace our true style and self when we become an adult. I've really enjoyed your channel. I'm someone who has collected antique fashion for 40 years but rarely anything past the 1930s since that was when modern fashion evolved into the styles we have today. It was always hard for me to ID items from e.g., the 1940s and 1950s when on a thirft store rack but seeing your thrift store finds has been revelatory. It has always felt like finding anything from those eras was so hard since the Rockabilly craze hit in the late 1980s in my area (Los Angeles) and the thrift stores were emptied out by savvyer buyers. Seeing your videos has made me realize they are still there - I just need a better eye for that era. So really, big thanks - you wear that vintage beautifully and it has been a pleasure to watch each video.
LOVE your videos girl, this video remindes me of myself how I got into the pinups rockabilly look. Been rocking this style since I was 17yrs 38 now def a way of life. My place is all style 50s 60s mid century modern as well. Thrift shopping is my fav thing to do. Love watching your thrift shopping videos. Feel its in your blood my grandpa was a greaser when he was younger. Into the hotrod culture since I was little. Keep making great videos girl your so inspiring. Love you. ❤🖤❤

I was an 80s kiddo too, love Strawberry short cake.
I love the 50's a well. I love seeing how you are true to yourself and what you love. You are a breath of fresh air in this day and age.
Interesting the way you shared your evolution. I enjoy your channel as I was born in 1944 and lived through the 50’s as a young child and the 60’s as a teenager. Like some of the other comments below your video, I often lament how people dress like bums these days. When I was married in 1966, my husband and I flew to Chicago for our honeymoon and I wore a two piece off white shirt with matching top and coat as well as a hat with a whimsy veil. My husband wore a suit, white shirt and tie on the plane! People used to dress up when they traveled on planes and I’ve remarked these days they look like they just finished cleaning their basement and went to the airport!! People these days say it’s all about “comfort” but we felt comfortable when we looked the part o adults. Some might say these days I still look “matching/matching” but that is my style, and I can’t change it. I would’ve be me if I wore any old thing. I no longer match my shoes with my purse but my clothes are coordinated and I hate the “distressed” jeans people wear. I cannot wait for that style to pass away!
