I briefly had one of these going through my system and it was incredible. The musicality and detail was unlike anything i heard before. it lead to me buying an Esoteric DV-60 and then ultimately a D-05 and P-05.

Great video. SACD didn't really progress very far and if one is still playing CDs, as you say some of Esoteric's vintage players can still stand tall among the best today. 2 other legendary players that also come to mind are Mark Levinson's 37/36s transport/dac and what many consider the very best of them all, the Wadia 7/9 transport/dac.

Here’s the thing- I use a Sony dvp9000es as a transport feeding my Benchmark Dac. I’m very satisfied with the sound, but the transport is old. I was actually able to briefly demo the $5K Jays transport and it did sound somewhat different but it was hard for me to quantify. What other transports should I consider?

If you want a transport on the cheap that’s has a relaxing yet detailed sound. Go for the Meridian 500 transport.. it has aes/ebu, and sp/dif.. Try to audition first. Sometimes it does not read well unfortunately.. out of 300 cds played so far.. 1 does not read.. a bit befuddled on that one. Though it’s 500 usd on average. Definitely worth a try. Very content with mine.

Yeah, a manufacturer whom engineered their own transport spindle thing IS, for me at least, is the differentiator between mid fi CD spinner and a high end one. In time..

I was looking for your recent video on tweeters but saw that you (fixed?) the Esoteric SACD player. I would keep it. You got this for free as I remember? Every time I've listened to an Esoteric player, they always sound special, not just the best player in the room but really more like music.

Free ? Lol. Not even close. Paid $3K for it with a broken drive belt. I don't want a CD spinner. They are useless to me. I bought it with speakers and Rowland DAEMON to help an older client of mine clear his gear out. it's for sale.
