Vintage Corgi Models Versus corgi Model Club Reproductions

Ойын-сауық

After picking up some of the Corgi Model Club reproductions of classic Corgi toys, i thought it would be fun to compare them side by side to some of the originals from the museum, so in this video i'm looking at the Monty Carlo Rally winning Mini Cooper S from 1967 and the Porsche Carrera 6 also from 1967. Both epic models from the golden era of corgi model making. so join me for a look at these two really cool models.

I like the rerelease despite what other comments say. After all its bringing the corgi collection to a brand new audience that weren't alive when the originals were sold or collectors who want what they had when they were kids but can't afford originals in decent condition. The person who commented that the rerelease will never be worth anything...well how wrong you are. Those Corgi Model Club issues that are now no longer available are fetching double their original issue price. 100% yield in a couple of years....I bet your bank can't compete with that return. The Corgi Model Club will replace the Porsche if it has a poor finish and faulty wheel....it's just a shame that you opened the box it came in like a complete neanderthal....why do that when you had a knife handy and just need to slit the tape holding the box closed. The yellow tin is for keeping the certificates in which again could have been damaged during your box opening antics. The collectors of the future will want the certificates with the model if you want a decent price. To my mind the biggest downfall of the rerelease is the panel on the box with all the modern health and safety crap on it but I suppose then there's no chance of somebody trying to palm it off as an original. I was looking forward to somebody doing a comparison piece on KZread but really disappointed with your goofy clumsiness and handling of the cars, but at least you didn't dismiss the new models as rubbish as some of the other comments have virtually said because they most definitely are not.

I’ll let you into a secret, I’d already opened them carefully and had a look then resealed them, before opening them like that on camera, as I do a lot of unboxing they have slowly got more brutal as a bit of a running joke through the videos, and the idea is to shock a bit and try and be a bit silly to keep the video interesting, so I apologise for disappointing you, but appreciate the comment. I think the corgi club have now restocked a lot of the range so they are available again, but there will aways be people flipping them for more money, and as you mention will try and pass them off. I think they did a great job on the models, but interestingly someone pointed out to my you can restore an original one for less than the Corgi club models ! I hope you enjoyed the video ! M

Great video! No matter what they make nowadays, the vintage version win! The Chinese craftsmanship can't win over the British craftsmanship! Colors aren't the same also! Thanks mate for this video.

Would you mind keeping the models still for comparison ? Also, there was a green Carrera in existence.

I like these cars. By the way, the packaging is not ridiculous. You make an effort not to bend or damage the corner flaps. What if these cars were sent to you in a flimsy box and the packaging and cars were smashed? I guess you would be okay with that? The world is not going to end because corgi packages their items well. I would rather receive something well packaged and intact than not. I do agree with you that the older cars have a more nostalgic charm and that is why I collect the older ones and the older matchbox series as well as the new ones. All in all they are a neat toy that kids today if they weren’t glued to a screen should be playing with and enjoying.

the originals will cost you at least 3 times as much if you can still source one.. the reproduction (made in china) are awesome... I never had any as a kid... as a (nearly) pensioner I can now get them all even though they might not be quite up to the old (made in england) versions :)

Both of these cars are very early releases from the CMC and I've bought all releases since and I have noticed a gradual improvement as each new model is released.

These are early attempts at Corgi reproductions. It would be interesting if you could show a more recent model than the (then) 1 and a half year old ones you showed 5 months ago.

Superb! I would like to compare *the same model car made by matchbox, dinky, corgi etc* to see the differences. Maybe a Volvo, Mini, Land Rover. Anyone know a car that all the different diecast manufacturers made??

Interesting vid, corgi are starting to reuse those new moulds for the cars as general sales in different colourways, give folks the chance to get models at a reasonable price, of course the originals are better and will hold there value, but some folks perhaps couldnt afford that, have you seen the price of model trains these days ,phew.

Really good comparison video.I totally agree the originals are by far the better model. However what I would say is CMC versions are good and offer collectors the chance to obtain some of the rarer and of course more expensive models for their collections at a reasonable price for example the East African Safari VW Beetle.

Just received # 245 Trans O Lite Buick Rivera . I'm 59 this is a gift for family member always enjoyed the cars I still own from childhood. I didn't own the Rivera but rt outta box a serious weight difference. Nice but nothing like Made in England Quality of days gone by in my opinion. Slightly disappointed

It’s a nice model the Buick ! I have to agree, It’s hard to capture the charm and quality of the originals, and sometimes the manufacturing skills too. The early made in England models are hard to beat, but some of the 80s ones were super rough, but the only reason for manufacturing overseas has to be for profit which is a shame. The thing is now you digitally scan something and have it churned out in abundance, but I think something is lost in this process ! The skill of the early models was to make a toy that looked like the original not just one that’s had the same measurements as the original, and I think that is where a little bit of the soul is lost ! Hope you enjoyed the video ! M

They are a good representation of the originals, but no compartment to them. Stupidly I cut the part where I suggested reconditioning a vintage one may be better, but I wanted to show the original against the reissue. Hope you enjoyed the video, thanks for commenting. M

I'm going to guess that most toy collectors are gonna disagree with you. Toys are toys no matter where they are made. These are great recreations for those who want display pieces and do not want to pay $500 or more for an original....
