Amazing stuff,... how they don't just trip and fall out all over each other with diziness and crash is just incredible... fun to watch

+Michael Maucher I don't know! I think that's the skillful part. Flying while dodging the other guys. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

It’s called team racing. The max number of laps in the min. time on a measured amount of fuel. Usually diesel powered.

The whole time the song "London Bridges Falling Down" was playing in my head. Those guys have some serious balance skills!

I flew a lot of C/L when I was young. You don't get dizzy if you keep your eyes on your airplane, and NOT on the surrounding scenery. Not sure if these were all diesel powered planes ... didn't sound like standard 2 cycle glow engines, and didn't see any starting battery paraphernalia evident. I had a few model diesel engines, and they are extremely temperamental and difficult to get tuned (between compression and fuel valve settings). Though I've not flown a C/L airplane in probably over 25 years, I would be willing to wager I could walk out right today and fly a stunt or combat (fast or slow) aircraft with no problems. A shame that today's kids will never know this kind of fun, and the smell of methanol/castor oil on your hands and clothes (or diesel fuel).

Fairly sure they were all diesel or glo fuel motors Bill. I saw starter and re-fuelling equipment being used at the side of the flight area. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

I saw the fuel bottles, but no starting batteries. It is, of course, possible that in this day and age that they have a strong onboard LiPo battery to power the glow plug with on/off switch. The tune of the engines suggested that they were running gravity feed .. no pressurized systems. Back in the old days, we'd remove the venturi insert or bore it out, then use either crankcase pressure or a "pen bladder" or "pacifier" tank to pressurize the fuel system. You had to use a pair of hemostats to clamp the fuel line prior to getting the engine running, but once it started and you released the clamp, those engines were "full bore" for the entire contents of the fuel tank. This system was mostly employed in combat and speed, where you needed the full potential of the motor. In stunt, we usually stuck to the venturi-effect fuel system to allow for a shift from 4/2 cycle mode to 2 cycle mode during a maneuver. Ah .. lots of good memories. I DON'T miss the mess of the castor based fuel on myself and the clothes, but I would like to fly a C/L plane again, even if it was a small 1/2A sized craft. Would have to build a stooge to release the plane, and use a high KV electric motor, but it would be a blast, I'm sure. Cheers!

Sheesh, reminds me of my own control line days when you were standing there for such a boring time waiting for your guy (bless him!) struggling with the stupid engine. But this is a 3 minute movie packed into 8:30.

Yeah it is stupid. Almost as stupid as chasing a little ball around a pasture field and hitting them with a stick.
