Control line tragedy

Спорт

First competitor flying at the scale and semi scale control line event at Hard2000, Siggenthal, Switzerland. He came all the way from England, the flight started off pretty well but ended in tragedy. Possible causes for the lack of engine power were the combination of higher altitude and temperature vs the UK where the model was set up and tuned.

"Shit" was the first word that came out of my mouth when it bit the dust. A real shame. My condolences.

I feel bad for the poor fellow really. Many hours spent on the fine points of scale modeling with a beautiful model.

With the desire to run the engine at that rich or low throttle setting in order to achieve more realism, the loop should have been started after a dive in order to gain more speed.

Never allow slack on the cables, as soon as you feel slack take a couple of steps back and pull in your arm to regain tension. on Another note he made the mistake of trying a wing over with the engine poorly tuned . Well that's u control in a nut shell.

Oh, that's tough. All the hours of building and detailing you scale guys spend. That's what really hurts.

I wouldnt even launch if the engine was running like that.. NO POWER to keep lift or string tension tight. And I havent flown a control line since I was about 8 years old...

In RC we typically fly by the rule that if something sounds or looks wrong you announce your intentions and land right away, models dont sort themselves out - that said horrible loss, enjoyed the flight before the incident

Hard crash.. I'm surprised they did not try to lean out the engine a few clicks before takeoff.. The plane was flying "heavy" too or just under-powered from the overly rich engine. Sometimes the engine leans out in flight.. I guess it didn't that time. Any attempt at a loop was ill advised. I'm surprised he did not do a "test and tune" flight on site that day before competing.

For sure not optimally. The weather and altitude were greatly different than where the plane was set up and adjusted. Makes a big difference in choice of fuel, glow plug, settings.

Too heavy and under powered for that kind of climb. Sad, looked like a nice plane.

It's his own fault, obviously was too rich, they are easy to tune and it should be done at every flight anyway.

I was sure it was going to snap the line and hit that photographer in the head - up close and personal. It seems a slightly beezaare hobby when there are such sophisticated radio control systems...

Control line planes have no TX/RX. Just 2 )or 3 sometimes) steel wires between pilot and plane

The video was boring til he crashed! LOL He openly admitted he was trying to do a loop when he crashed it. The crashed was caused by inexperienced pilot.

No way no how with the engine running too rich. May be if he had time to point the nose strait up the engine could have time to lean out and pick up the revs.
