Vintage Bo

The best-known, most respected coach in all of college football.
VINTAGE BO follows Coach Bo Schembechler's second season at University of Michigan -- in the final weeks of the Rose Bowl drive -- at practice, during a game, with his family. For the first time ever, you'll see and experience first hand the public -- and private -- Bo Schembechler.

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Bo. Well, sort of. I was a student in Ann Arbor and after the 1985 OSU game I was on the field waving my flag. Unknowingly Bo was behind me being interviewed on TV. I turned to meet up with my friends back up in the stands and at the same time Bo finished up the interview and began running toward the locker room. We ended up face to face 10' apart. Both stopped, kinda shocked and then I thrust my fist and shouted "Way to go Bo!!", he replied, "Get the hell out of my way!!!" And darted right past me!! A moment I will never forget. LOL!!

I used to dread Saturday afternoons, during the 1970's. Pop would have either the TV or radio on, with the Michigan game. LOL, I laugh now, but back then it was no laughing matter for a kid. Pop yelling, "Dammit Shembechler! THROW THE DAMN BALL!!!!" Even though Pop went to Wayne State, he lived and breathed Michigan football and basketball. Good times. I miss them.

This was the game on November 6, 1971. Bo's only unbeaten and untied regular season. Two weeks later was the famous Woody Hayes meltdown at the Big House.

Bo did not know how to spell dishonesty or prejudice! That is why players ran thru a wall fr him. Even w his 5-12 bowl record, a true Michigan fan wld hire Bo bk in a second due to the fine men he turned out and never cheated but lost to cheaters!!

@@SuperSparrow45 To say "his son outed him" is dishonest. People like you who really want the Schembechler name erased are so committed to misinformation that it takes away the credibility of the entire story. Call him what he really is "His estranged-from-the-family adopted son, Matt, that openly hated Bo and even sued Bo back in 1999 over a memorabilia business." He is claiming he was ten years old and rode his bike to the team doctor by himself months before Bo even coached a game at the school. The timeline makes no sense and the timing of the story is dishonest, being 50 years late. A ho-hum 50 years late.
