VINTAGE BARBIE UNBOXING! Original Barbie and Solo In The Spotlight 35th Anniversary Reproductions!

Hey Angelz! I am shocked at how fast of a turnaround this video was, but I have really been in the mood for Barbie dolls lately. I finally purchased the 35th Anniversary reproductions of the original 1959 Barbie and Solo In The Spotlight dolls, which I've been wanting to get for quite some time now. I hope you enjoy this impromptu Barbie unboxing moment!

Cute video! I also collected Barbie’s because she reminds me of my childhood dolls I heavily played with her growing up since I was three years old. Heck, my mom even told me when I was 14 years old she said I was too old to play with Barbie’s!😰😭 So, I started collecting them in last 2 years to remind me of my childhood. I have about 20 original vintage Barbie’s, 10 reproductions…and 5 silkstones of original Barbie’s, Ken, midge, and Allen and other Barbie with Barbie names all over dress.i haven’t buy any more vintage Barbie’s because I am more focusing on completing my Bratz dolls lines. 🥰

Solo in the Spotlight is one of my holy grail dolls, it's super exciting watching you unbox her! I never even considered silverfish so thank you for the heads up, I got two 1995 Enchanted Evening reproduction Barbie's and thankfully they were in amazing condition and the boxes were safe as well. I hope you enjoy and cherish these two beautiful Barbie's! Thank you for the video 😊

Per doedeer wonderland the original ponytail Barbies had hair similar to shiny black cording, then separate all the cording and straighten.

Last weekend I found solo in the spotlight in box for $5 at a thrift sale!! My nana bought one in the 90s and she’s one of my special childhood barbies, but she’s missing all her accessories. I’m going to keep this one in her box and restyle my old one.

Loved this. 💖 I have them and the Enchanted Evening repro in the beautiful pink gown. I'm with you, I don't mind the "inaccuracies", reproductions back then actually had to be inaccurate to have people not fradulently claim they are the original. Playline dolls back then were also more in the $10-$13 price range (that's what "Totally Hair" or "Earring Magic" Barbie cost for example) so the $24.99 in 1994 equals to $50 in 2024 and does put the doll in more of a "collector tier" category. :)

I like these 1994 dolls, I was getting into collecting around this time as a kid, but I didn't get them. The nostalgic feeling around Barbie is so real, so don't feel bad about it:) I'm unboxing my Fashion Photo PJ while watching, you really got me into this feeling too lol

The first Barbie’s had hair that was made to stay in a ponytail, so it was pretty thin with a bald spot underneath. I have several 90s repros and they look gorgeous with their hair down, it’s definitely thick! Never seen a modern repro irl but they’re probably more thinly rooted for accuracy.

low key almost fainted watching you try to bend her knees. Bend and snap knees did not exist until the Twist and Turn Barbies of 1965. If you like these two, you should look into the Enchanted Evening repro from around the same time. They, too, can be picked up for practically nothing - oh, and Margot Robbie also wore a version of this one in promotional events leading up to the Barbie Movie premiere. Enchanted Evening uses the same face/body sculpt as Solo in the Spotlight and has the same level of attention to detail. I was in my 20s when these repros came out and was actively collecting Barbie at the time. I was more into the 70s-80s dolls and was buying 90s dolls as they were coming out, but I had a few 60s dolls here and there and was aware of the market. I don't know of a single collector who bought one of these repros back then - unless it was to temporarily use accessory pieces on a vintage doll until a proper replacement could be sourced. I wasn't that into them back then, but now I don't mind them as much - like you said they are vintage themselves these days. The box for Solo in the Spotlight is weird to me. Why the red foil? (Enchanted Evening is in a similar blue foil box that also does nothing for me). Barbie pink was a staple by this time , and there was nothing nostalgic about the packaging except the blurb on the back. The boxes themselves were gaudy and uninspired imo. But, this was the early days of Barbie being taken seriously as a collector's item. Ebay was brand new too - giving fuel to an army of baby boomers feeling nostalgic about their childhood toys. You nailed it, though. This was unchartered waters for Mattel. They FLOODED the market with these reproductions that were seen as only so-so by the collectors. I think that, the poor attention to the face sculpts, and the uninspired packaging is why these didn't do so well back then. They only seemed to appeal to the sort of old lady that bought Beanie Babies and Franklin plates back in the day - because they say "collectible" on the box. Thanks for a great video! Watch those Barbie knees 🙃
