You know what I like about this book? These were the days when scrapbooking was actually about the person that put it together. Not just random ephemera about nothing in particular, linking to nobody and no place. I was blown away by those places, especially that map of flushing. It inspires me to make sure my scrapbook is not just pretty, but personal and that the ephemera are things I care about, not just stuff in a package that I picked up in a craft store! Thank you for this!

I agree! Im in Scotland and it was so cool to see a postcard in there of "The Forthroad Bridge" which isnt far from me and still being used today. What a beautiful book and part of history ❤ xx

What a special find! It makes me sad when things like this end up in thrift stores or flea markets... like she didn’t have anyone in her life that felt it was important to keep. I feel the same about these scrapbooks, or even old family photos I see at flea markets. If only they could stay within the family. But I am glad it came into my hands and won’t be pieced out. :)

What an amazing find. My mother's name was Patricia Jones and she would have been 10 years old in 1948. It was SUCH a shock when I saw her name. This is definitely not my mother but something about this made me feel so close to her anyway. How fortunate that this ended up with someone who cares!

I'm so happy you're not going to take the scrap book apart. I can't bear things like that happening even to books in general. I found a scrap book of someone's holidays in a charity shop a couple of years ago and I bought it for about £5. I bought it basically to save it from being either thrown away or cut up. The way I see it someone has spent time putting it all together and they could be dead now so I'm looking after it for that person. I think it's a privilege to be able to do that. Well done on a brilliant find!

I have come across several scrapbooks American soldier from 1942 he was a bomber, scrapbook from soldier in the Philippines during WWII very graphic. Victorian scrapbook with calling cards. My favorite was the last one I found of 2 women from S.F. that went to Mexico in the 1920s. They were teachers and they saved everything from the trip. I have beautiful postcards and a hand colored photograph that I framed. I even looked up their address and the house they lived in now sold for 1.4 million a few years ago. I used the negatives from their large format camera to print the photos again. Incredible stuff.

Wow, what a lucky find. Imagine having one like that that belonged to your grandmother or a relative, it would be even more special.

As of today 5.27.21 Patricia would be about 86 years old. She could still be alive. You have a lot of information you could use to look for her!?!

I Googled her address, looks like the apartment building is still there. Enjoyed the video!

I love this! Definite amen to being an old soul. Scrapbooks like this really inspire me because of their simplicity as well. And 1930's and 40's are my favorite eras.

Wow! Her personal life history sure did find its way in to the right hands! Treasure that piece of history! Enjoy!

❤❤❤❤I’m born and raised In New York,I’m still here ha ha and I saw one just like this years ago at a Brooklyn NY , Williamsburg Flea market !! I was younger and really liked it but I didn’t have the money on me. I went to ask my Mom and when we came back it was gone!! I’ll never forget it. This is a treasure,so glad you’ve gotten it! I’m mad old soul too ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is so cool! It is one of my dreams to find an old journal or scrapbook! 20$ is a steal for such a personal piece of history.

I treasure items like this. I have a huge postcard collection from my great grandparents and grandparents. If you want to use some as ephemera, just scan them! Especially the postage stamps. Some of those uncancelled ones might be worth some money. :)

Oh, how fun! That’s always so interesting to see old things from familiar places.

I just discovered this video of yours. Thank you so much for sharing the scrapbook and for preserving it. Even looking through the playbills, I could see names of extremely famous actors, and it would’ve been near the beginning of their careers. This is truly a slice of history. And it looks like the graduation at the beginning is from what we would call elementary school because it talks about going to high school. How special is that? This also struck me as my Mum’s name is Patricia and she was born in 1944. I inherited Patricia as my second name. To see that there are additional Patricias born in in the 40s warms my heart. It is not a common name, at least where I am in the world. I also have a passion for history of people. This is part of someone’s life and it’s all laid out for us. I also I’m trying to collect scrap books such as these, but in most cases, they are very expensive and out of my range. Best wishes, Christine.

What a lovely find. I often wonder about the story behind vintage finds. Whenever I am able to sit and listen to an older person talk about their lives it is always fascinating.

Another old soul here. Oh, my goodness! Wish I could be sitting beside you looking. What a treasure! Good for you leaping on the find and taking it home. I saw a vintage scrapbook once and by the time I decided to buy it, it was sold.😭 So when I found an intact 1938 diary, I didn’t hesitate. It’s from a teenage boy from Des Moines IA. I get my history fix volunteering at the local Historical Society in my town. You have a little one now so your time is at a premium, but perhaps something to think about in the future.

I think the missing corners from those postcards are because someone cut out the part with the postage stamp on it so they could soak it off for their collection.

What a wonderful trip back to 1948! I wish my mom would have done something like that!

I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the journal with you . In some places, like the First Communion, I felt as if I were violating this girl's privacy . Those 2 cards with missing corners, Im sure she tore off to save the stamps. Lots of travel cards from all over the world. Back then people had busy lives. TV didnt come out till 1949, so they werent sitting around killing time. They did things . If the graduation was from high school, it means the later programs from opera and plays (1960) were from when she was 30 . Everybody wrote cursive then and for many years after ; they taught it in school, usually in the 3d grade .

1920s is also a great era! I love anything ancient egyption, 1800s-1950s. History is so fun.

My mother-in-law made one for my husband and now that I'm retired I'm setting about making one for myself with all of my memorabilia. I love her's for inspiration, thank you for sharing.

if she graduated high school in 1948 she would have likely been born in the same year as my mother-1931- and would be about 89 years old today! I wonder if she is still alive? It's possible! It would be fun to do some research and see if you could find out more about her live and possible descendents.

@@GirlandQuill I suspect she has recently passed. It amazes me how often families don't want to keep this ephemera, even photos! So it is nice it found its way into your hands. I think the start of the book is commemorating her 8th grade graduation in 1948. It was customary to have such a celebration as there were no middle schools in those days. I have been an avid scrapbooker since I was in grammar school. I have old scrapbooks from the 1950s through the 70s as well as more modern ones using archival materials from the 90s to the present, Since I have no children I often wonder what will happen to all my old scrapbooks when I pass. Hopefully they find a place with someone like you.

That is amazing! What a find! I once found an old scrapbook about boxing. Tickets, newspaper clippings, autographed photos etc from the 50s and 60s. I don’t care about boxing but the book is awesome!

I was wondering if Patrick as father was a pilot and that was why she received so many postcards. I think you will make a new discovery every time you look at this treasure. I was wondering if you had come across two you tubers called Paper and Moose and Tarnished Treasures you might like them I think they would enjoy this scrapbook. It was an amazing find I wonder if the Grace Kelly post card was for their wedding I think the bits cut out of the stamps was for the stamps. This was such an interesting scrapbook with bits of everything in it. It would be interesting to find out more about Patricia looks like she was Catholic. Paper and Moose did a video where she looked at the life of someone from some piece of ephemera. I just came upon this video and glad I did.

Postcards may have been collected because she could not take photos of the places she visited. I wish I had the postcards and ephemera I collected as a child and teenager in the 1960s and 70s.

I have my great grandmothers and grandmothers journals but they are falling apart. I have started to dismantle and save every item in them. I am now stumped on what to do with all of it. I am laminating some of it so it does not disintegrate.

Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Rachel McAdams? Because as I was watching this video I felt like I was listening to her walk me through a scrapbook lol
